New in 2017, airy, light, architect-designed studio apartment includes vaulted ceilings, tiled bath, kitchenette and private entrance. Nicely furnished for 1-2 adults. No pets.

Close-in, quiet, walkable neighborhood of mid-century bungalows with large yards. Trails, bike lanes, parks, transit nearby. Easy access to campus, downtown, Oregon beaches, mountains, wineries, the I-5 corridor.

Great base camp for explorers, academics and business travelers. Excellent wifi, workspace and provisions.

Le logement

This "GI Bill" neighborhood was carved out of bean fields after WWII, with an eye on young veterans headed back to school.

My property, developed in 1950, features hardwood floors, coved ceilings, glass block details and a huge fenced yard. I bought the place in 2001 and have since undertaken several large projects.

* In 03-04 I extended the kitchen, captured the garage for a large, light library and added a front deck. This effort was led by architect/builder Dave Beardsley and really opened up the interior space and made it more welcoming, comfortable and private.

* Around the same time I worked with landscaper Joshua Smith to design a productive, beautiful and organically managed ecosystem for my outdoor spaces. The backyard now sports a small orchard, raised beds, tool sheds, a working swale with a bridge over it and a sunny little separate building variously used as a sewing room, art studio and rehearsal space. (Inquire if interested in using this locked and wired workspace for an additional fee.)

* In 2016 I hired architect Will Dixon to plan the addition I'm offering here on Airbnb. BioBuilders, out of Blue River, did the contract work, and my longtime handyman, Pat Clancy, helped me finish.

Accès des voyageurs

There's a new gated path of decomposed granite to guest quarters. This private entrance includes two steps and a small cedar deck which you're welcome to enjoy at will.

Nearby plantings -- including fabulous clematis vines, ferns and evergreen huckleberry -- were disturbed by last year's construction. I'm renovating that area now.

Guests may request access to the backyard patio and grill and to food and flower gardens. But you'll probably have to do some chores in exchange!

Additionally, the garden building described above may be available for use as a work/rehearsal space. We would negotiate an extra fee for that via the Special Offers function.

Échanges avec les voyageurs

I'm happy to share info about favorite side trips and events, dining and shopping spots, community activities, etc. I also keep current maps and guides to area parks, trails, wineries, museums and attractions and maintain a keen interest in business and public affairs.

Let me know what you'd like to explore! I've probably got a few pointers and contacts.

Marlene's place was very nice, clean and quiet. I will stay there next time I'm in Eugene if possible.

Good central location. The space is pretty small, but has a comfortable bed, functional kitchen area and a nice bathroom. One caveat for folks traveling together: no door on the bathroom, just a curtain. Was totally fine for me as a solo traveler. Apartment stayed cool when the outside temperature was high, surrounding area was peaceful and verdant, good neighborhood. Lots of interesting reading material and a small radio if the lack of a TV leaves a void in your life.

The shower is clean and hot, wifi is fast and the bed for me was very comfortable. It is convenient, safe and quiet, Marlene is a perfect hostess. I would have no problem letting my grandmother stay there. It is a deal for Eugene.

The apartment was perfect for my needs. It was clean, private, had a comfortable bed, nice shower, refrigerator, coffee maker and fast internet. Marlene provided a few healthy snacks and checked in on me from time to time asking how my stay was going. I would definitely recommend it and stay there again myself.

This place was charming and sweet although, the listing was misleading as it seems you get a separate dwelling or apt., you get a private room with its own entrance. The price is a bit steep for smaller quarters but just my preference. Also, there's a joining door (to the house) in the picture, in which you can hear everything from the host guests, walking by, chewing, doing dishes, etc. It was uncomfortable as we were traveling and wanting to get some rest.

Marlene is a gracious host! The space is airy and light and beautifully done. It is small but quite roomy at the same time. I would have liked a toaster and hot plate because of my eating style, and the info may have been there for me to see on the rental page, but I was rushed and may have just missed it. Despite that I did just fine and greatly enjoyed my stay. And Marlene brought me blueberries from her bushes!
