Our place is in Ludham, on the Norfolk Broads, not far from Norwich or Gt Yarmouth, in-between Potter Heigham and Wroxham. Our offering is for beds without sailing. We have a pub within walking distance, a village shop, post office & butcher. Our place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, families (with kids), big groups, and furry friends (pets). You can also bring your own canoe or dinghy to 'play with'. If you enjoy camping you will love our set up.

Le logement

Please note - the boatyard will be closed from October 2017 until May 2018 for the 'ole gals' winter beauty treatments (maintenance programme on the boats).

Your accommodation at Hunter's Yard is a cozy little historic traditional wooden sailing yacht built in the 1930s by the Hunter family. Our Fleet come equiped with paraffin lamps for lighting, a gas cooker with crockery, cutlery, kettle, pots/pans and bedding.

Your beds are made up for you with bedding which comprises of duvets in covers, pillows in pillowcases, fitted sheets with mattress covers underneath the fitted sheet. Extra pillows and blankets are available on request.
Your water is held in water containers in the back cupboard of the well area, where you will also find the washing up bowl with matches, j-cloth, sponge and rubbish bag.

We have a washer and dryer in the sheds should you need it. We would however ask for a small donation towards the cost of use. You are welcome to use electric sockets for charging your phones etc during our opening hours, just ask in the office.

You are welcome to bring your own canoe, dinghy or kayak to use while you stay with us.

We do have rowing/sailing dinghies available to hire at a cost of £15 per day should you wish to 'have a go'.

We are owned by a charitable trust called The Norfolk Heritage Fleet Trust and supported by a wonderful group of people known as the Friends of the Hunter Fleet. New 'Friends' are always welcome and membership is only £15 per household per year.

Your journey with us starts from the moment you enter the boat sheds, where you can see over 80 years of history and memorabilia from the Percy Hunter Family legacy, Swallows and Amazons Coots Club and the Big Six BBC production, right up to when Griff Ryhs Jones visited. Our Lullaby yacht was used as Teasel in the BBC production and we still have her transome on the back wall. Titmouse and Dreadnought are also here.

Your boat is for sleeping on only but should you wish to go for a sail on her too, just let us know well in advance so we can get a skipper booked for you. There is however a small fee of only £45 (normal price is £70) for a two hour skippered sail.

It's a very peaceful place to stay with walks nearby which will take you up to the main river. Our sunsets and sunrises really are second to none.

Please note: Our main kitchen, electric points and fridge are available only while the sheds are open, which is between 8:15am - 4:30pm. We are closed on Sunday's and Bank Holidays when the sheds are also not open. The showers and toilet block is available 24/7 by using the pin code given to you on arrival.

Accès des voyageurs

Although you have a toilet on board our main toilet/shower facilities are in the sheds and accessible 24/7 with a door pin code which will be given to you on arrival. There is even a hairdryer in the disabled toilet for us ladies who can't do without one.

We don't provide any meals with our stays, just the basic camping on the water style beds. We do however provide all the pans, crockery, cutlery etc you will need to cook for yourselves and full bedding.

There is also a nice local pub within walking distance that do meals as well as other take away, fish & chip shops and cafes in nearby Potter Heigham, Horning and Stalham.

You can also have food delivered to the Yard.

We had two nights aboard Hustler 4. Compact but comfortable boat with two beds with pillows and duvets, led lights, small toilet, cooking area and even USB ports to charge phones etc. Plus access to clean showers and toilets via secure code. Plus access to kitchen and beverage making area. Interesting museum too in working boatyard. Enjoy rowing on the broads and look forward to returning for a bit of sailing!

Vikki's warning that staying on the boats is like camping should not be taken lightly - that's exactly what it is! But what a great location - sitting on the boat watching the stars and listening to owls on a clear night is a memory we will hang on to. We arrived in bad weather and had a cold first night, despite the extra blankets provided - might be an idea to pack a hot water bottle if you are not sure of the weather! Hustler 4 was just as described - basic but clean, and had the bonus of a battery pack, LED lights and a USB point so that we could charge our phones. cooking facilities - two gas rings and a grill - are plenty for a brew and breakfast. We enjoyed a drive to Cromer and Sheringham, and a lovely evening walk along the river to Potter Heigham. It's a lovely setting and Vikki was a kind and helpful host.

The boat at Hunters Yard was a perfect alternative to accommodation on land. The yard itself is at the end of a dead end country lane and is very quiet and peaceful. The boat was small but perfectly appointed with everything you could need. The local pub is only a 10 minute walk away which does good food as well. I took my 4 year old and she was very happy here. Everyone was very friendly and helpful!

Hunters yard is a a little gem set in the Broads. Its steeped in history and has a very passionate work force keeping the place running ship shape! Our host Vikki was brilliant and very accommodating to our later arrival, she showed us round and made sure we where very comfy and happy before leaving us, she even called the local pubs to find us a spot for dinner! Facilities on sight were clean and up-to-date. The boat we stayed on was lovely and although there's fairly limited facilities aboard it certainly added to the charm. The Yard was generally very quiet and a lovely spot to relax. Brilliant for a short stay and a taste of boating culture!

We are a charity with 1930s historic wooden sailing yachts lovingly known as Percy's Lovely Ladies. We are in Ludham, on the Norfolk Broads, on Womack water just off the river Thurne, at the bottom of Horsefen Road, Ludham.

I thought it might be novel to offer our cabin yachts to rent for nightly stays here at the Yard. It is like camping on the water, our boats have no engine, so you could say it's a greener way to stay. They have single beds (full bedding provided), all the cooking utensils, cutlery and crockery you need to cook your own breakfast and even an evening meal if you choose. (remember to bring your washing up gear ie tea towels etc though)

You don't have to know how to sail to stay on board, however if you did want to be taken out for a sail to see what it's like give us a call 24hrs before hand and we'll arrange an experienced skipper to do just that. It would cost £70 however, for a two hour skippered sail, for up to 4 people, children and well behaved pets are welcome and we have buoyancy jackets to fit all sizes.

Claims to fame - If you're a Swallows and Amazons Forever! Coots Club & the Big Six fan you may like to know that our Lullaby was used as Teasel in the BBC Production. We still have Teasels transome on the paint shop wall, as well as Titmouse the dinghy and Dreadnought on display in the sheds.

Our boat Wood Rose was used by Griff Ryhs Jones and Dick Strawbridge. We've been on the programme Flog It! with Paul Martin and had Henry Coles here for one of his motorcycle programmes too.

So if you're looking to try something a little bit different to your 'norm' please give us a call and let us help you step back in time.
