Enjoy this light-filled, antique, full Cape house. The house dates back 200 years and has lots of charm with modern amenities. There is no view of any neighbors from house. It is surrounded by yards for relaxing and quiet games. Private lake beach, walk to private bay beach. Lake breezes, large light-filled rooms. Idyllic country retreat. Two bedrooms downstairs, two upstairs. Enjoy the outdoor shower, patio, shade trees, and grill.
This house has rare access to nearby fresh and salt water beaches and unusually spacious grounds and downstairs rooms. The living room has two sitting areas, a large bay window with reading chair looking out on the garden, flat-screen TV and Wifi. A door opens onto the patio with umbrella and gas grill. Furnishings are mostly antique. Good design allows breezes in all rooms. The house was built over 200 years ago by Eben Paddock and restored and refurbished during World War II as a gracious summer home by the owner's family. Two large main bedrooms; one has queen bed and desk area, the other twin beds, and small couch. Beautiful formal dining room with antique furnishings (antique chairs at walls are for display only - very fragile). The 16' square kitchen has a microwave, toaster oven, coffee station, 40" gas and electric stove, portable dishwasher, and round breakfast table and rocking chair, a somewhat low ceiling - a real country feel. Large high-ceilinged pantry with fridge, counter, and long shelves. Full bath with tub off entry hall, small bath with stall shower off laundry. Outside shower gets morning sun. Beach chairs, beach towels, and canoe available. Shelter for bikes. This is a gracious country retreat. Large circular driveway with room for 4-5 cars.

We will arrange a time to check in upon arrival. During this time we will give you an introduction to the house and property and then leave you to enjoy the your time. We live nearby, on the adjacent property, and are available for questions and assistance as needed. We have lived on the Cape for many years and are happy to make suggestions for activities, restaurants, and more. We look forward to meeting and welcoming you to our beloved home.
We will go over all of this during check-in but want to give a heads up of what to expect. We also want to let you know a few things that we have here for you to use.
Since this house is near beaches and we know that you don't necessarily want to haul all of your beach gear with you, we happily provide the following for our guests:
-Canoe for the lake
-Backyard play structure for kids (available upon request)
-Bocce ball set
-Small child's pool (available upon request) and toys
An antique house has a few quirks.
The kitchen and pantry are part of the original house (over 200 years old) and the kitchen ceiling height has never been altered. This allows for a great deal of charm and authenticity that is hard to find these days. Due to this authenticity, the ceiling is roughly 6' 2" tall in the kitchen. The pantry ceiling is quite high so you can prepare food in the pantry as well.
Some windows open with spring buttons on the side (please close windows for heavy rain or wind).
Light gas burners on stove quickly to avoid damaging the starters (don't allow to keep clicking).
WET TOWELS - there are hat stands in bedrooms to hang towels on, and a clothesline outside. Please don't leave on furniture or over doors. Beach towels should be kept outside on lawn chairs or on outside shower, or in the laundry on hooks in rainy weather. Thank you for protecting our antique furnishings from damp and sand.
Stall shower has separate hot and cold water handles - adjust temperature before going in to avoid scalding.
The captain's stairs going up to bedrooms are very steep - be careful.
We recycle. Empties and other recyclables may be put in the labeled black bin in the laundry alcove.
We compost on the property. While this is not a requirement, if you are interested in composting during your stay, please let us know and we will collect your food scraps (no meat or cheese please) as needed.
Garbage cans are behind the fence near the outside shower. Latch tops securely to keep animals from getting in. Trash collected twice weekly.
We may need to come by shortly to water flowerpots or the perennial garden in dry weather, or occasionally to mow the lawn. We'll text you for a convenient time.
No pets. Smoking allowed only outside. No parties or large amounts of alcohol, or very noisy activities (there are neighbors). No college-age groups. Please respect private areas listed (especially children, though we love them!) - there are fragile things stored. Since the kitchen was built pre-1800 it has a wonderful feel, but food should be covered to avoid attracting unwanted guests. We keep it very clean but in a country setting sometimes little critters that belong outside may find their way in. People not in your family group not allowed in house without permission (babysitters, etc). No use of fireplaces without permission (insurance reasons). Be gentle and considerate with our old house. We hope you love it!
À partir du 1 septembre 2017 - 30 novembre 2017, la durée minimum de séjour est de 2 nuits.
We are a retired couple living on Cape Cod. We spend the winters reading by the wood stove and the summers down by the lake. We have lived on our beautiful property for over 40 years and adore everything the Cape has to offer. We love to travel to see our sons and grandchildren in San Francisco and and love hosting them here as well. We can't wait to show others the gorgeous mid-Cape and this gracious antique home.
