If you choose to visit Astypalaia, you have to stay at Ilias' house. Even if you don't plan to visit Astypalaia, you 'd better reconsider in order to live in this house.
And of course Ilias himself, the ideal host, caring, efficient, polite and very effective to whatever we might need 24h a day. He welcomed us at the port at 4 in the morning! and showed us the way and carried our luggage with his bike!
It's been pure joy from the very first sunrise upon arrival from the boat, to waking up for the first coffee of the day at this breathtaking view of the Aegean sea and all the small islands and the neighboring white chapels.
The terrace is a destination on its own and the house is handcrafted by Ilias' grandfather in the old genuine minimalist yet totally charming way, under the castle walls, next to the famous Castro bar and the adorable garden of Karai cafe. Total privacy and no noise although in a very popular neighborhood for the tourists due to the amazing view.
We are thankful to Ilias for the whole experience. We also adored the island, the beautifully preserved old town and the castle, the authentic, warm and generous people, the unspoiled beaches and the delicious food.
We ll be back!
