Tracy and Laurie were wonderful hosts! Their cozy condo is on the ocean, just east of downtown Hilo, next door to Carlsmith Ocean Park. It down the elevator and a short walk to great swimming and snorkeling. I've snorkeled on the Kona side and the fish viewing was just as good. Their condo has a great view of the ocean and 13800 ft Mauna Kea. Tracy prepared a delicious breakfast and fresh coffee every day. Laurie made sure I had everything I needed. We had many great conversations and got to know each other over the week. As I was traveling solo, it was great to enjoy their company. They have had lots of recent travels and had many stories and tips to share.

(I might not justify our experience living at Tracy's place but I will try my best) My Wife and I stayed with Tracy and Laurie at their apartment in Hilo, HI. The view from the apartment is amazing and they live at one of the best location in Hilo for snorkeling. Day 1: Tracy came to pick us up at the airport. We went to his place, and met his wife Laurie. She showed us where everything was in the apartment. We had a very comfortable room with everything we needed. (they had extra snorkels, bag pack, beach towels and everything we ever needed during our stay) Day 2 ,3 and 4: We would wake up to the best breakfast in the world with fresh fruits and avocados on the side. Tracy and Laurie are very interesting people and we had lots of things in common that we talked to them about. They gave us great suggestions for things to do around Hilo. Living with them was like living with family, very comfortable. We were so glad that they went with us to Mauna Kea visitor center, 9500 ft above sea level. They let us borrow their winter wear so we didn't freeze up there. (who carries winter jackets to Hawaii. Well we needed it and I am so glad we could borrow it from Tracy). They also joined us at Kilauea volcano. Tracy and Laurie were the fastest best friends we have ever made and My wife and I are so glad to have stayed with them. There are plenty of fresh fruit plants growing in the yard. I went picking fresh avocados and papayas and peppers with Laurie. Check out was very easy yet so hard. We had got so comfortable living with Tracy and Laurie that leaving them became very hard and we have missed their company since we left. Thank you very much Tracy and Laurie. P.S. check out the bar called E. Komo. Mai. which is very close to their place.

Well, that definitely was something special. Tracy and Laurie are such good people. Shaka tanaka is a wonderful place to stay and the service you get from Tracy and Laurie is even better. The breakfast, wow! Tracy makes the best hash browns! And if you have questions about the area or for planning a tour they definitely can give you some advise. Very comfy bed in a private room on the 6th floor with view of the ocean! Thanks both of you! See you

They were great hosts. The place was clean and had a comfortable bed. They were very accommodating but gave you a lot of privacy. The breakfast was fantastic and the tour of the volcano was awesome. All in all I would recommend staying here.

The place is easy to find and with great views. The room is lovely and comfortable. My old friend and I really enjoyed the stay at Syaka Tanaka, dancing with the hostess Laurie and breakfast cooked by Tracy. He is a great cook and made a "Japanese style birthday cake" for my friend as an extra service. (I asked a birthday lunch but didn't expect a home-made cake. Wonderful!!!) Also we enjoyed the volcano tour. To persons who want to communicate with local people, this place is ideal!

Everything is even better than in the pictures, Tracy have been so helpful for our trip. We totally felt like we were at home. He is such a great host, he did breakfast every morning and each of them were absolutely delicious. At first, we didn't had a car and Tracy help us to find alternative. He showed us the town and how to come back at the condo by ourselves. We went to see the volcanoes with Tracy and it was a very nice activity. Everything is very clean, the place and the location are great. There is a beach just next door (we saw turtles!!!!). I would definetely go back.
