Thistledown Farm's Sheep Shed Cottage was created by joining 2 hand-hewn post and beam small barns. Located on the beautiful Thistledown Farm property, it is furnished with unique antiques and old barn finds. The sleeping loft is accessible only by a ship's ladder. Adults and kids alike LOVE it. It is a great place to kick back! The accommodations are rustic--more like "glamping", glamorous camping than a dolled up seaside cottage. Please note, Seasonal Bookings only from May to October.

Le logement
Thistledown Farm's Sheep Shed Cottage abounds with rustic barn charm throughout. It has a large screened dining/sitting area with a fully equipped summer kitchen, comfortable separate living room space, bathroom, outdoor private hot water shower, and a sleeping loft. It is adjacent to a large stone terrace with a dining table, an outdoor fireplace, and a separate fire pit that is to die for. A bocce/croquet court completes the amenities. There is an on-site walk through the woods to the salt water river, and a fantastic fresh water swimming hole, saltwater boat launch and 2 nature preserves are on our road within walking distance. You can't beat it!
We have 2 other listings at this property that are available year-round. Accès des voyageurs
Sheep Shed Cottage guests have the cottage to themselves as well as access to adjoining outdoor spaces.

Autres points à prendre en note
The sleeping loft has Air Conditioning and heaters. Extra fans and portable electric heaters are also available for the closed-in areas. The loft is only accessible by a ship's ladder.
Well Behaved dogs are welcome! There is an additional fee of $25/pet per visit, payable upon arrival.
Thistledown Farm was previously used as the location of The Maine Float Rope Co., home of the popular Down East Doormats. A cottage industry, The Maine Float Rope Co. made mats and rugs woven out of reclaimed lobster trap rope. Now, with a former weaver on Thistledown Farm's staff, lessons can sometimes be arranged to learn how make your own mat. There is a fee and advance notice of your interest is required. Lesson availability is weather and weaver dependent.

Our little peninsula has a wonderful freshwater swimming hole, saltwater boat launch, 2 preserves and beautiful vistas. Town and Route 1 are only 5 minutes away with galleries, restaurants, farm stands, a pharmacy and a grocery store. Thistledown Fram is located minutes away and a short drive from Damariscotta, Camden, Rockland, Pemaquid Beach, Round Pond, Fort Henry, Pemaquid Lighthouse, and the ferry to Monhegan Island. We are on the way to Acadia, Downeast Maine, Moosehead Lake, and Mt Katahdin. The airport and Portland are an hour and 15-minute drive from Thistledown Farm.

Our neighborhood, if you want to call it that, is a 3 mile long dead-end road that runs right down the middle of our own little peninsula. It juts off the much larger and popular Pemiquid Peninsula here in mid-coast Maine. The residents are a mix of year-rounders and summer people. We have doctors, lawyers and a retired police chief, airline pilots and professors, merchant marine and lobster boat captains, artists and teachers, business men and women, clam diggers and crafters, fishermen and farmers.

We are blessed with saltwater swimming, kayaking and boating as well as one of the best little freshwater swimming holes you will ever experience. Well hidden and practically unknown, its granite cliffs are great for jumping off or use giant blocks for stepping in. Two land trust preserves on our road add to the surrounding natural beauty. Several neighbors offer occasional Yoga classes. An old schoolhouse/community center and 1800's seasonal church sometimes offer public suppers and concerts.

I designed and built my home where I host guests. It's an 1850's hand-hewn post and beam barn which I repurposed to make my home. I'm a small business owner of a cottage industry which may be fascinating to some of my guests. I make mats, runners, rugs and baskets from reclaimed lobster trap rope. Helping save the environment is very important to me. By using this banned float-rope for my products, I help keep it out of the ocean where it can endanger marine life, especially whales as well as save landfills from early closure.
