Our spacious home in Naalehu is the perfect base for your Hawaiian family vacation. Halfway between Hilo and Kona, you can see the whole island. 2,000 SF of living area with wonderful outdoor spaces and an ocean view, our home is on the 12th fairway of a beautiful golf course which is open for the sole enjoyment of us and our guests. Kids can roam around all they want or you can golf for free. Our home is fully equipped and we also have body surfing boards and beach gear. Plus a hot tub!
Our home is 2000SF with three bedrooms and two full bathrooms. Upstairs on the ground level is the master bedroom with king bed, kitchen, living room, dining area laundry, and 40 foot covered and screened patio. Downstairs is a rec room with a home theater projector, a bedroom with a queen bed, a bedroom with a full/twin bunk bed and the second bathroom. The rec room leads out to a 40 foot covered concrete patio and the back lawn. The covered patio has a love seat and small table, a 6 seat dining table, two lounge chairs, and a nice hot tub. The back yard is directly on the 12th fairway of the golf course, which is available for you and your family anytime. Our kids love to play frisbee on the golf course or go for walks and explore. The golf course is for the sole enjoyment of homeowners and their guests and there is no charge to play a round. The Discovery Harbour neighborhood where our home is located is extremely friendly and quiet. We have a HUGE orange tree with the best oranges you will ever eat and you are welcome to pick a few if they are ripe. Our avocado tree is massive also and has ready to eat avocado about half the year. The floor plan is amazing, with ocean views from every room in the house except for the bathrooms. The master bedroom has a sliding door out onto the screened lanai. The queen bedroom has a sliding door onto the lower concrete patio. We have two adult PFD's and a child PFD available, three beach chairs, snorkel gear, a cooler, boogie boards, and yard games available for you to borrow. A family can easily vacation for two weeks and spend zero dollars on recreation except for vehicle gas. The weather in Naalehu is virtually perfect, with a normal high of 80 during the day and about 69 at night. With the lack of city lights, stargazing from the back yard is wonderful. You can even see the stars from the hot tub.

Our home is about 50 miles from the crowds and traffic of Kona and that's just the way we like it. It is about 60 miles from Hilo. Getting to either Kona or Hilo takes around an hour and 20 minutes. The drive to Hilo has less curves and higher speed limits so takes about the same amount of time. There is a beautiful snorkeling spot for kids and adults ten minutes from the house at Whittington Beach Park, the world famous Punalu'u Bakery less than ten minutes away, the amazing cliffs of South Point 15 minutes away, a cool black sand beach 15 minutes away, the green sand beach about an hour away, and a SUPER private beach about an hour away (we usually have it all to ourselves). On the Big Island you are going to be doing some driving no matter where you stay, so why would you want to listen to traffic, slamming doors, and other people? We are also close to Volcanoes National Park, and only an hour from the Kapoho Tide Pools and also the hot spring. There is a full grocery store only 15 minutes from the house. We absolutely love the neighborhood and the Naalehu area. It took about 30 trips to Hawaii but we finally found our favorite spot and we are so happy that we bought here.
Please no shoes in the house and no smoking on the property or in the house.
Please please please help us to keep our price low by conserving propane and hot water. Propane is VERY expensive in Hawaii. Fresh water is also very precious and expensive. We ask you to take quick showers and to hang dry clothing on the enclosed patio instead of using the dryer. Hang drying is actually faster anyway. The electric griddle works wonderfully for cooking rather than using the propane cooktop when it makes sense.
Hawaii is very habitable to all creatures, including bugs. Please don't leave any trash around or any food on the counters or patios. Any food left anywhere will almost immediately attract undesirables. We spend a considerable amount of money each year keeping our home pest-free but if food or garbage are left about they WILL come in. Please bag your trash and take it to the Waiohinu transfer station, it's open every day and is very convenient to drop by no matter where your adventure of the day is taking you. There is no charge. If trash is allowed to build up there will be a lot of happy bugs.
When you leave please turn off all lights and fans. Please place your dishes in the dishwasher and run it. Please wipe down the kitchen counters and floor so that food particles aren't left behind. Please put the house and garage keys back in the first kitchen drawer that you come to as you enter the kitchen. Thank you so much for your assistance.
