Welcome to the PDX Basecamp! Your home away from home conveniently located between the airport and the hippest spots in town. We would be delighted to accommodate your travels and provide you with a safe, clean, cozy space to kick up your feet after your Portland adventures. No matter where you're traveling from and what your ethnic, spiritual, or cultural background is, you're welcome here.

Le logement

Be aware that this private bedroom is in a 6-bedroom house that has other guests and tenants coming and going.

There are many open communal spaces that you are welcome to get cozy in as well. If you can't find the spatula or would like an extra Japanese floor mattress, we got you :)

If you have any specific requests, please feel free to shoot us a message, and we'd be happy to work with your needs.

Accès des voyageurs

Guests have access any of the rooms that are not a bedroom. You are welcome to get cozy in any of the open rooms throughout the house that does not have a door. You are welcome to enjoy any of the coffee and tea in the pantry (some of our local faves). Feel free to use the fridge to keep your Farmer's Market veggies fresh, but please only eat the food you bring so that other guests don't go hungry.

Échanges avec les voyageurs

I work from home which means I'm probably coffee shop hopping or working on the tiny house in the backyard. Feel free to come pick up a hammer! I'd be happy to recommend an eventful day in the neighborhood depending on what your preferences are. Otherwise, if you'd prefer privacy, we will respect your space. We trust you will also respect the privacy of other guests who might also be staying in one of the other rooms as well.

Enjoy Seattle amigo! Portland is just a hop and skip away so don't hesitate. A cozy bed will always be available for you here—even if we're booked out and need to string up a hammock ;)

Super clean, super convenient, and a beautiful place to stay. Ours was a quick overnight stay, but we would consider coming back for future trips!

Matt's place is so great. It's perfect for a mellow Portland weekend or longer stay. The rooms and clean and have a nice alpine vibe. Matt is a master communicator and even gave me recommendations for surf rentals and a surf spot on the coast. What swell dude!

10/10 would stay again. Matt was extremely helpful and a super lovely dude. The house is beautiful, and getting places was super easy by bus. Really felt at home.

Outer appearance is a bit off putting and the neighborhood is in a part of Portland that once had a ominous reputation. I think it is being gentrified. I never felt unsafe but the ambience is not what one would go to NE Portland for. However, it was very close to PANG, which was my destination and that is why I chose Matt's place. The interior was very clean and tidy with modern appliances and nice aesthetic touches. My room was very clean and tidy and I felt very welcomed by it. WiFi was tremendous. The other guests were fine and there were no problems. Would I stay there again? Yes.

Matt was cheerful and friendly. He opened his entire house to the guests. My husband and I felt welcome in his home and in the city. Matt seems to live an uncluttered life, so you don't feel like you are invading someone's privacy. I missed that there was no AC (my fault), but expect some traffic noises at night (I brought ear plugs thankfully, buy my husband didn't). We sadly were also under an air quality alert due to wildfire smoke. Ash was blowing in our windows (which needed to stay open to avoid suffocation from heat wave and humidity) all day long and all night for half our week.

After returning from a year-long backpacking trip abroad, I was at a loss of where to call home. So I embarked on the next adventure—to seek out a ‘basecamp’ that I could always return to after travels. As one thing led to another, and I was challenged to define what 'home' means to me, I was compelled build a tiny house. Which led to seeking for the ideal spot to plant my tiny house. It just so happened that the lot I found (or maybe it found me) just so happened to have a five bedroom house on it. So the PDX BASECAMP was born! I have been blessed to return the favor that so many welcoming hosts gave me during my travels. All this to day, it would be my pleasure to provide you with a safe, cozy, and welcoming place to hang your hat, kick up your feet, and swap stories after a long adventurous day from your journey.
