The good: location was handy - a five minute walk from the Main Street with a convenience store just around the corner for essentials. Alessio kept me in touch and was punctual and friendly on our arrival.
So now to the downsides. My booking was switched a few days before hand to a different place on the promise of it being just below the other one in quality. I said yes to this, and received an overall €9 refund. However, upon arrival, this did not seem like just €9 difference when it came to quality.
The flat was basic to say the least, and little thought had been given to the comfort of the guests, with no complementary tea, coffee, or even water. The shower was old, volatile, and substandard, and flooded the bathroom every time we used it. The only complementary thing we received were two towels, which were mostly employed in mopping the bathroom floor.
The kitchen was old and grubby and did not exactly encourage use. The bed was rusty and flimsy, making a noise every time someone moved. One of the main reasons I had booked the other place was the view - but here we had a balcony where you had to crane your neck to see a small bit of the mountain. The wifi was weak to non-existent, and was certainly not located in the flat - you could not receive it at all unless you went right next to the living room window or on the balcony. My feeling is that the router was across the road.
We were told that there was a roof terrace up another flight of stairs, but this was somewhat off-limits to us during our stay as (and I accept the particular aspect was not the host’s fault) there was a dog poo on the stairwell for the duration of our stay.
Sadly I couldn’t even recommend this as a place just to sleep - there are far better places in beautiful Taormina in this price range. Alessio - you seemed like a nice guy - but this was simply nowhere near good enough.
