Halliday's Folly, named as such by locals a hundred and fifty years ago, is a unique and historic building built in 1850 by Thomas Charity Halliday, a stonemason and corn merchant. Thomas Halliday restored and repaired churches all over the country and was in the habit of returning home with fragments of medieval stonemasonry which with which he decorated his workshop. Back in the day Mr. Halliday was a successful man employing some 47 men and 4 boys. His son, Samuel Fancourt Halliday was a one time mayor of Stamford.
The Folly has been recently restored and converted into two spacious holliday cottages. The first has two bedrooms each with ensuite facilities, a large kitchen, living room with sofa bed creating additional sleeping space which has separate shower room. The second is a spacious studio apartment with fully fitted kitchen, bedroom area, living room with sofa bed, shower room. The outside space makes the best of this iconic building, also providing a private garden, patio areas and adequate off road parking.
Greetham is a working village three miles from Rutland Water, eight miles from Stamford and surrounded by beautiful and interesting places to visit such as Barnsdale Gardens made famous by TV gardener, Geoff Hamilton. The village boasts two award winning pubs, The Wheatsheaf and The Plough. Both offering excellent menus together with a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

I live alone on the same site as my holiday accommodation, Halliday's Folly. I have renovated the buildings in order to create the holiday cottages and very much enjoyed doing that. I have been told I'm a good host - around to help but not at all intrusive. I think that what makes me a good host is that I like people coming and going. I'm not so much of a traveller any longer but love visiting friends and having them to stay, cooking good food, wine and conversation.
