A stunning contemporary cottage in an idyllic rural location in the Peak National Park only a stones throw from Chatsworth. A perfect spot to just get away, relax and explore the stunning countryside right from the door. The cottage features a large stone fireplace with woodburning stove, wooden shutters, exposed beams, a fully fitted hand made kitchen, walk in rain showers and romantic roll top bath. BBQ on one of the two terraces or it's a quick walk to the pubs in the village.

Le logement
Downstairs has a large open plan living/dining area with huge windows looking out across the valley, underfloor heating and a large log burner in a beautiful traditional stone fireplace, wooden shutters and exposed oak beams. There are 2 outside areas with seating and a gas BBQ.
Upstairs 2 ensuite bedrooms with walk in rain showers and a sumptuous freestanding bath (king size bed and twin beds/super king). The cottage dates back to the 1700 and was originally built as a two storey barn for the main house which my parents bought as a ruin in the 1960s. We have just lovingly restored it and I think we have created a contemporary, light and airy space with loads of original features, vaulted ceilings, huge windows, fabulous brand new bathrooms (that you will love!) and really comfortable beds with the best quality bedding and towels.
Everything you need for a relaxing, luxurious get away!
Wood Burning Stove laid ready to light with unlimited logs Gas and a gas BBQ on the Terrace to sit and gaze across the paddock to the fields beyond.
TV with Freeview, DVD player with a few DVDs in the Sitting Room
Decent wifi
Bluetooth Speaker in Sitting Room
Books, DVDs and Board Games
Complementary Soap, Shower/Bath Gel and Shampoo for your use
Fluffy cotton Bath and Hand Towel for each guest
Hair dryers in each bedroom
100% Egyptian Cotton Bedlinen in white
Beds with pocket sprung mattresses
Down Duvets and Pillows as well as Non Allergenic on request
Wooden coat hangers
Re Kitchen: Washing up liquid, Liquid hand soap, Dishcloth, Pan scrubber, Washing up brush, Tea Towels (between 2 & 4 depending on length of stay), Apron, Dettox, etc are all provided

Accès des voyageurs
Full access to your cottage with it's own front and back doors, and two terraces with a BBQ and views across the fields of our horse, neighbouring sheep, cows and wild black and brown rabbits. Perfect for sundowners and a BBQ.
The rocks behind the house is where the megalithic rocking stone is located. Our children often camp out up there.

Autres points à prendre en note
We are located up a gravel farm track just outside Birchover which is a small village, so a car is necessary. Very low sports cars may not like our drive.

We have a Jack Russell and a Labrador who will be around and about the property; they are very friendly. We also have 2 horses who are in our fields and occasionally in the stables below and to the left of the holiday cottage.

The staircase is handmade by a talented local craftsman, and it is quite steep with a tight turn which could be difficult for less mobile guests.

We are incredibly fortunate to have some amazingly talented craftsmen in Birchover who worked with us to create out beautiful cottage:
Chris Fleming made the kitchen, the staircase, the windows (including the fantastic 2 storey arch), the internal wooden shutters and other pieces of furniture.
Mark Eaton restored our fireplace and is a stone mason who does important commissions all over the country and featured on the Michael Portillo train journey programme.
Nick Russell did the lion's share of the restoration and he has a great shop of architectural items and antiques in his chapel in Birchover.

Bakewell, Derbyshire, Royaume-Uni

Located in the heart of the Peak National Park, about 10 minutes drive from Haddon Hall and Bakewell, 15 minutes from the magnificent Chatsworth House and 30 minutes to Buxton Opera House. There are also lots of National Trust properties within an a 45 minute drive.

Fantastic walking of every distance from the door but there’s so much to do here apart from the obvious walking and cycling. Climbing is massive all around us and we have many boulders on our property that are perfect for bouldering. Cratcliffe Rocks is also walking distance and is a popular destination for climbers and boulderers.

Lost Earth Adventures and Blue Mountain Activities are outdoor pursuits companies that will provide equipment and instruction on a whole host of activities such as rock climbing, caving, gorge walking and abseiling.

Carsington Water is 20 minutes away and is where Dame Ellen Macarthur learned to sail! There are all sorts of water sports on offer there.

Clay pigeon shooting is available at Yeaveley Estate and horse trekking can be arranged at the Tissington Trekking Centre, which is part of the beautiful Tissington Hall estate near Ashbourne.

There are Druid Stone Circles a short walk away at Robin Hood's Stride and Stanton Moor.

2 traditional pubs in Birchover, The Red Lion and The Druid Inn are walking distance (approx 500m) and The Flying Childers is a half hour walk over Stanton Moor past the 9 Ladies Stone Circle. Matteo at The Red Lion has his own micro brewery and makes 'Birchover Blue' cheese.

There are many good restaurants in nearby Bakewell, which also has a traditional market every Monday and Farmer's Market some weekends.

Fine dining is available at The Peacock Hotel in Rowsley and Michelin starred Fischers in Baslow, to name a couple.

Alton Towers is 40 minutes away or for smaller children there is Gullivers Kingdom in Matlock Bath.

The opening scene for the classic/cult film The Princess Bride was filmed just behind the cottage (the rocks) and many other locations are close by. Pride and Prejudice with Kiera Knightly was also filmed at many nearby locations.

After living and working in Hong Kong, owners Rachael and Gerry moved back to Rocking Stone Farm where Rachael grew up, and settled in with their family. No detail was overlooked when they decided to convert the barn, exclusively for guest use and they love making sure guests get the best out of the stay at the farm. Rachael and Gerry live onsite in the main house and are happy to offer advice about the local area and also show you up to the legendary Rocking Stone.
