When Ray booked I was very clear regarding the amenities. If you review my description I am very honest as to what is offered and what isn't offered. There is no kitchen listed period. Prior to arriving Ray asked if he could bring a 2 burner hot plate. I let him know that the space was not suitable for cooking food or washing dishes. At that point I let him know it was best suited for short term stays and suggested he look into another booking (all this is document in our messaging with-in the app). I suggested we could work something out to have some access to the kitchen. This is now a different offering as to what he booked for and paid for. I suggested an additional $150 for the month to cover the added value that we were now accomodating. He happily agreed and suggested he would pay upon check in (again all documented in our communications). Upon arrival and once they settled in they changed their mind about that, which was fine. But during the stay asked again about the kitchen and we agreed to let them use it (limited times) at no additional charge. They asked if the could put a microwave in the basement, which I said no to, and i reiterated or earlier communications regarding the space is not set up to cook food. In the end they still went out and bought a toaster and had it plugged in on the edge of the stairs. They blatantly disregarded the rules of the space, even after we were up front about everything and more then willing to try and meet there needs. The request to pay Hydro was after they asked if they could stay for an extend period. I would also like to point out that Ray really wanted to negotiate a cash deal outside of air bnb to avoid the site fees. We were not willing to do this and suggested that they re-book through the site, but that if they are to stay longer term and use more of the facilities then what is offered in our listing they would have to pay for a portion of the utilities. Regarding the ants it is a basement, is kept very clean, and this is generally a non issue. However, if you as a guest are not clean and are preparing food and leaving food waste in the space you will attract ants. I brought all this up with him and he agreed with me in our conversations, however, his actions spoke differently. Finally regarding the privacy and entering the room without permission this is a false statement. When they had indicated that they wanted to book for another month I arranged with them a time to come down and clean the space. I asked that it was a time when they were not there so that I could strip all the sheets vacum all rooms and clean the space. We agreed on a date (again all documented through text messages). I arrived and clean the common area and washroom, however the bedroom door was locked. I left Ray a message saying I didn't clean the room as the door was locked. When I was outside at the back of the house tending to the garbage I noitced that the lights were on full. I unlocked the back door turned off the lights and and re locked the doors. Again I will reiterate that I had already gotten their permission to clean the entire space (gave them a detailed description of what I was going to do) and they had agreed to this. We also have a house rule of turning off lights when out to which they failed to respect. We work hard to provide a clean, comfortable space and are willing to go above and beyond to make our guests stay great. We did all we could for them but in the end they took advantage of it. I can support everything I said with documented text and app message threads. There negative review was submitted directly after our review of them as guests. I will also point out that for what ever reason they felt justified to leave without saying anything, leave every light on in the space and the back door wide open in the middle of winter. Not only is this very disrespectful it also poses safety concerns. Everyone is entitled to there own opinions of our space, however, I feel that there reviews is very disingenuous. I felt it was important to provide a detailed response to this review and I would suggest anyone that is interested in staying with us please review our other guests feedback as that is more indicative of what we offer and the level of service you get when booking with us.
