Autres points à prendre en note
The history and culture of this region of the Dordogne is rich and varied, ranging from open air music, art galleries and concerts to Romanesque churches, prehistoric sites, many châteaux and fortified towns. There is something to satisfy everyone.

Walking
There are plenty of quiet strolls through the Double forest. You may see an enormous variety of wildlife, including coypu, wild boar, deer, green woodpeckers, hoopy birds and birds of prey such as white toed eagles, buzzards and many varieties of falcons and hawks
There are walking circuits of 5-15 km nearby and throughout the summer randonnes pedestres guide(accompanied walks of about 10km) are organized by the Riberac Tourist Initiative. We can furnish you with maps and plans.

Swimming
Need a change from our pool?? There are outdoor pools at Riberac, Vertaillac, Bourdeille and La Roche Chalais as well as many plages (beaches) on the river with a supervised plage at La Jamaye which is a short 12 minute drive away!

Cycling
On and off road bikes to hire, organized or not. Traffic is minimal which makes for easier cycling.

Golf
There are golf courses at Le Manoir de Longeveau a 9hole, par 64 (2 x32); and at Perigueux; 9 or 18 holes, a par 71, -6029 metre course, it offers a challenge with water hazards to negotiate.

Canoeing
There are many places where you can be transported up-river and then you canoe down stream. Do not expect any white water or rapids. Take your lunch with you and stop to picnic under the trees.

Fishing
There are 2.5 million anglers in France and fishing is a serious pastime. You can get a permit from the local fishing shop. We can arrange this in advance if needed. Most of the riverbanks are accessible and there are both public and private lakes. Fish for trout, barbell, grayling and char in the rivers, or carp, pike and perch in the lakes.

Riberac (10min)
Our local town provides a wide range of services & facilities. There are good restaurants and bars and on a Friday it boasts the largest market in the Dordogne as well as night and flea markets. There is live music and other cultural events all through the summer.

Auberterre (15min)
Not quite in the Dordogne, but just over the border in the Charente. It has one of the largest subterranean Eglise monoliths in France (an underground church that has been carved out of the rock starting in the 800’s) as well as a very pleasant square surrounded by shops, galleries, good restaurants and a puppet theatre. There is a supervised plage or beach on the River Dronne where you can spend the day enjoying the river.

Brantome (25min)
A charming town surrounded by the Dronne river where you can go canoeing and explore the town from the water, or get a map from the Tourisme d’ Initiative and wander around noting the C13th_ C18thhouses of the town. There are many shops, restaurants, brocantes (antique shops) cafes and bars where you can sit and watch the world go by. There is also the medieval Abbey with its troglodyte trail, well worth a visit.

L’Etang de la Jamaye (12min)
A park surrounding one of the many Double lakes that offers safe swimming on a beach with a lifeguard and safety boat, fishing, boating, play area, volley ball court, a fitness trail, nature walks, beach cafes for that light lunch/supper or a drink and a restaurant for a typical French meal.

Perigueux (40 mins)
The capital of the Dordogne is a mixture of the old and new. A trip on the little train will take you through the cobbed warren of passageways where the shops, boutiques, restaurants, markets and cafe terraces with tempt you back on foot. Take a look at the C18th administrative centre, the medieval cathedral and the tower of Versone built in the C2nd.

Bordeaux (90min)
A modern city with a historical past’’ a bit of Versailles with a touch of Antwerp.’’ Here you will see many gracious buildings and wide boulevards with shops, boutiques, museums, art galleries and gardens that you would expect from the fifth largest city in France. A good day out. Park outside the city and catch the tram …..no parking problems!

Villars (70 min)
A magnificent cave complex, 13 kilometres of underground tunnels with authentic cave paintings as well as stalagmites and stalactites.
