Alice was lovely to deal with before our stay. The house was clean and had everything we needed. The house is just beautiful. We all left very happy.

This beautiful period house should have been the perfect home away from home. Instead it was very dirty, infested with insects, and had electrical problems. The carpets were badly stained, extremely dirty and the dining room carpet had candy stuck on it. The whole house was very dusty, the toilet in the family bathroom had a dark yellow ring around the underside of the toilet seat, the freezer was unusable because it was literally frozen solid, and there were moths, spiders, river flies and other insects throughout the house. Being right next to the river, we expected some insects, but when I found wasps on my son's open suitcase I contacted the owners. They sent out a pest control expert who discovered a wasps nest the size of a beach-ball in the attic. He also confirmed the presence of other insects. The Airbnb listing page for this house is not accurate. It lists a dryer as one of the amenities. When I couldn't find a tumble dryer in the house, I contacted the host only to find out that the "dryer" is a cupboard in the family bathroom. It doesn't dry anything. In fact, all the towels that were supplied were slightly damp when we arrived. I had to take time out of our vacation to take our laundry to the local launderette to get washed and dried. Also, a lot of the lights in the house were not working. Many light bulbs were either blown or missing. There were power strips in every room with multiple lamps and appliances including the TV running from them, which didn't seem like a safe situation. At one point during our stay, all the lights downstairs went out and we had to contact the host to ask where the fuse box was to reset the switch. The dirt, insects, electrical problems and lack of tumble dryer aside, this is a very nice old house. It's in a lovely secluded, gated community away from the noise of the city. It has old world charm and the owners choice of antique furniture are in keeping with the style and period of the house. It is spacious, there are plenty of beds, and they have nice feather pillows. The bathrooms and kitchen are newer updates to the house and were nice. The owner was quick to respond to my messages regarding all the problems. If the house had been clean, with no electrical concerns or insect problems, we would have had a much more pleasant stay.

Hi there Helen this is the owner of the property. As you may recall during our communication my father died suddenly 3 days before you were due to stay at our home. My family and myself were and still are going through an extremely difficult time. I'm sorry the house wasn't up to scratch but perhaps you might have recalled my situation before leaving such a scathing comment and considered our tragedy. You will see from previous people who have stayed that none of your issues have ever been found before. I cannot understand why the house wasn't clean as we paid for someone to be there for 4 hours before you arrived. But we were unable to get to the house ourselves, as said because my beloved father died without warning 3 days before your arrival. I can only apologise for the lack of input but as said, this is an extremely difficult time for me and my family.

Thank you Alice for ensuring that my 7 friends and I had a wonderful stay in your beautiful home. Your kitchen was well stocked with equipment to enable us to cook for the masses, and you very kindly left us some bread and milk for the morning. Your decking by the river was perfect for pre-dinner drinks - we didn't want to go home! Thank you again. Emily

We had a wonderful time at Alice's house. The host was very nice and helpful. The house is big and comfortable. The house is in a nature reserve and it's beautiful. It's a little bit far than what we've expected and in order to go to restaurants and pubs we needed to drive to Wimbledon, but there's a Tram really close to the house and it's easy to go to Central London.
