Le logement
Smithy cottage is a deceptively spacious traditional stone built cottage which nestles next to the Sparrowpit Methodist Chapel, which is believed to be one of the first Methodist communities in England. Smithy Cottage has been a part of the history of Sparrowpit since being the home of the local blacksmith.

Entrance / Vestibule
On arrival make yourself comfortable on the old English church pew. The vestibule is decorated with vintage walking sticks and even a old barometer to help you plan your day ahead in the stunning Peak District National Park. After an amazing day out in the air you'll find plenty of space for your shoes, coats and muddy boots.

We also provide sturdy wall hanging bike racks for four bicycles.

With separate dining and living rooms Smithy Cottage provides ample living space for 6 guests, while remaining cosy enough for couples too. All furnishings are in a 'cottage style' mainly of beautiful antique period pine. Both the dining and sitting rooms having wood burning stoves.

Dining Room
From the vestibule and into the dining room is a stone fireplace with an inset wood burning stove.

An ample old cottage pine dining table with seating for 6 people. In addition to its primary use as the spacious family dining room, the two traditional 'Carver' chairs are perfect to sit and enjoy a quiet read, pour over a map or guide book to plan your next excursion or just simply relax.

Kitchen
In addition to the generous counter tops, fitted floor and wall cupboards and antique pine dresser, there is small pine table and chairs to seat 3, ideal for breakfast or to enjoy your tea or coffee overlooking the garden and the hills beyond and (at the right time of the year) watch the sheep and lambs in the field behind or the white ducks running around enjoying the pond.

The shaker kitchen provides everything needed to make your stay comfortable, including; dishwasher, cooker/hob, large fridge/freezer, microwave, kettle, stove top espresso maker, counter-top hot water dispenser, toaster and plenty of cooking utensils, pots and pans.

Utility Room
The utility room contains the separate washing machine and tumble dryer and under stairs storage for; ironing board, iron, clothes airer, childs high chair, Hoover, brooms etc.

Sitting Room
The Sitting Room with a front aspect has a three seat sofa and three armchairs providing ample comfortable seating for 6 guests.

Character features include a stone fireplace with inset log burner for those cosy, chilly evenings and beamed ceiling. Entertain yourselves with the freeview TV or for the more traditional of you enjoy a few games of draughts on the antique games board.

Upstairs you will find the three bedrooms; Double Master, Twin and the bunk room. Set out in a comfortable country living style.

Master Bedroom
With front aspect & views across the valley towards Chapel en le Frith, has a pine double sleigh bed, bedside tables with lamps and a dressing table with a mirror. There is also a fitted wardrobe for hanging clothes. In here you’ll also find a travel cot.

The Twin Bedroom also with a front aspect, has two single beds, antique victorian 'pot cupboard' bedside cabinet, a beautiful French antique pine wardrobe and a tall-boy chest of drawers.

The Bunk Room set at the rear of the house, with views over the farm behind and hills beyond, has bunkbeds and a tall boy chest of drawers and a victorian washstand bedside table and inset hanging space built next to the chimney breast providing hanging space for clothes.

Also upstairs is our favourite space; the Snug-Landing. Or as we know it the 'Schnlanding' :0) Laid out with chairs to relax, maybe read a book or just look out across the hills towards Mam Tor. Here you will also find a small tv/dvd player along with hundreds of dvds to watch. Plus children’s games and puzzles plus a book case with many local Peak District books and maps for our guests to enjoy.

Upstairs are the two bathrooms; a shower room with electric shower, toilet and basin.
Plus the bathroom with claw-foot bath, toilet and basin. Sited at opposite ends of the house so as to provide excellent facilities for all guests.

There is a delightfull enclosed cottage garden at the rear where you can watch the resident 'Runner' ducks being busy around the pond/watering hole of our lovely neighbours' farm behind. With open views across the high peaks towards Mam Tor and Kinder Scout. We have hardwood garden furniture providing outdoor dining for six plus a large ornate garden bench to sit, relax, watch the ducks and enjoy the peace. You will also find a rotary airer for your use.

Pour vous situer

Sparrowpit, Angleterre, Royaume-Uni

Sparrowpit, a strange name for a village, but this has nothing to do with ‘sparrows’, it is taken from "Spar Row Pit". Named after the row of cottages that sprung up around the fluorspar (BlueJohn) mines nearby. A small village of around 80 residents and the services of the Wanted Inn Country Cafe and Farm Shop. Where you will find essential items and tasty treats. They also have Fish and Chips available on Friday and Sunday roasts both to take-away.

During the 18th century when miners found spar or lead in the pits around the area, the village sprang up, with the huddle of cottages we see today. The cottages are described in old books as "close together yet no two alike", each with a character of its own. The people of Sparrowpit were self-sufficient, with a blacksmith, three inns and a Methodist chapel. And even today Sparrowpit has a close knit community who look out and support each other. We even have our own well/ spring.
