Stephen should get more than 5 stars for his lovey home, hospitality, and great conversation! His home was the perfect base for our weekend in the area, and he offered great tips about activities. The room was comfortable, quiet, and we felt right at home. Stephen is a great host and we will be back!

Our stay with Stephen, in his classically beautiful, clean, comfortable home was exceptional, and all we'd hoped for. A special thank you for all of the invaluable help with our ancestry research. A great host, he made us feel as though we were visiting an old friend. Hopefully, we've made a new one!

Our second year in a row staying with Stephen—just as great as last time, if not better. Stephen is an incredible host, and I can't recommend his home highly enough. Plus, if you love the outdoors, there is so much to see and do in the area! If you get a chance to stay here, don't miss it.

Some background: I stayed in North Wilkesboro for about a week and a half as a solo traveler with contract work. Around this area, there were mostly cabins and lake houses fit for families, well out of my budget. Steve's place was close to work, affordable, and I quickly learned why he has such excellent reviews. - To me, there's a line between being a guest in someone's abode, and having a residence actually be your home away from home. Steve blurs that line, and is most comfortable when you are treating his house as your own. - He goes Above and beyond as a host. Steve is adaptive and attentive, aiming to please and have your stay be as enjoyable as possible. - He is insightful and intelligent in conversation, knowledgeable in the area and what it has to offer, and has had life experiences most would envy. - Like his loving animals, he is unobtrusive, respectful of privacy, and interacts as much as you allow. - A side benefit was the amount of life tips and skills I've learned from Steve, who is well read and well versed in topics of interest. - From handmade furniture, to amazing photos he has taken along his journeys, I can't help but feel as cozy as the bed is (and the couch, which I've accidentally fell asleep on!). - The bathroom and common areas are very clean, and stocked with the necessities. - As one of the best AirBnB experiences I've had so far, my recommendation for his place comes with no hesitation, if only to keep it for myself!

I am a native New Englander who has lived here in the hills of northwestern North Carolina for 30 years. I am an instructor at Wilkes Community College, home of MerleFest, an internationally-known folk and bluegrass festival. I am an avid bicyclist, helped establish the Brushy Mountain Cyclist's Club over 20 years ago, and love to travel on two wheels. When I travel, I especially enjoy meeting people along the way, whether fellow travelers or folks in their local environs.
I share my home with two rescue critters, Mrlucky, a Manchester Terrier/mutt from the pound, and Kerouac the cat, who I found as a kitten walking up the centerline of a nearby street. They help make this house a home, and a place where we do our best to make everyone feel welcome. Come and see us!
