My cute 1 bedroom house built in 1898 in downtown Truckee is in a quiet neighborhood just a few blocks from bars and restaurants - great location for a ski vacation home base as well as a hiking/biking home base. Relax in the small backyard with bbq and hammock. The kitchen is equipped with most of the basics and includes spices, condiments, etc. A well-behaved dog is welcome.
My 650 sq foot house is located in a quiet local historic neighborhood two blocks above downtown Truckee. You can walk to parks, the Legacy Trail on the Truckee River, restaurants, coffee shops, and businesses. Walk down to Coffeebar, Squeeze In, or Marty's for breakfast in about 8 minutes. You can find trails up Trout Creek into Tahoe Donner from my door as well as mountain bike from here as well. My house has new floors, new stove, new kitchen paint and hardware and lighting, all which have helped to upgrade the rustic modern vibe. The house is shotgun style and cozy, inviting you to sit in front of the natural gas stove in the living room and read a book or plan your next outdoor adventure. Perfect for a couple or someone looking for a quiet retreat in the mountains.

My little fenced in backyard has a deck, umbrella, table, and chairs with a bbq - great place to hang out and share a glass of wine with friends. When I'm in town, I teach writing workshops in my living room here and people always compliment the warm cozy welcoming feel of my house. The house is shotgun style so you walk through each room to get to the next: kitchen, dining and living room, bedroom, sunroom, and bathroom off the dining area (shower only).
This is a quiet residential neighborhood. Quiet hours are 9 pm - 7 am. This is my home - please take care of it as you would your own. No smoking please. A well-behaved dog is welcome. One townie bike is available for you to ride around town -and along the Legacy Trail - make sure to lock it up when out and about. There is a cable lock on it and you'll find the combo #at the house.
WIFI password: connection is called "1965" and password is my phone number (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)
Heat: Heat is turned off in summer. In cold months natural gas stove in living room is turned on and off by the toggle switch on the upper left in the back. There are two toggle switches back there - the one on the right marked with blue tape turns the stove on and off. When in neutral, the stove is off. To turn the stove on, toggle the switch down towards you.
Stove in kitchen: This antique does not have a pilot so you need to light the burners on top and the oven with a lighter. For the top burners, turn the gas on and hold the lighter to the burner until it lights. For the oven, open the door and turn the gas on and hold the lit lighter to the small hole at the front of the floor of the oven at the very edge. You should hear the flames ignite inside and you'll see the flames through the hole.
Hot water: You'll notice that the on demand hot water heater takes a few moments longer to warm up than a large hot water tank. In the kitchen if the hot water doesn't happen, turn the water off and then back on again - the flow of water is what ignites the hot water heater so sometimes you need to turn the water on full blast to get the heater started and then turn the flow down to what you want. You will have unlimited hot water for showers!
Back door: There is no key for the backdoor lock.
Front door: Sometimes this door will lock when you think you have unlocked it before you shut it. Have the keys with you just in case - leave a key under the door mat if this is easiest for you.
Garbage: Put bags out on street by 8 am Wednesday mornings. Don't drag garbage can out to street as they wont take bags out of can.
Laundry: The washing machine bounces around (don't be scared) in the spin cycle so please keep the spin on "low" rather than any higher setting.
Questions/Help: You can call my cell (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) with questions or for help.
Checking out: Leave trash in the kitchen trash can. Start a load of towels from kitchen and bathroom in washing machine - if you have time, transfer them to dryer and start a load of sheets.
I am a teacher and a writer living in downtown Truckee with my little blue Heeler named Stoli. I teach writing workshops at Sierra College and Lake Tahoe Community College as well as through my business Tangled Roots Writing. I also teach skiing at Squaw Valley. I hope you enjoy my little home as much as I love it! In the summer I can walk to the farmers market and Truckee Thursdays, the downtown summer night fair, as well as concerts at the Regional Park. The Legacy Trail (great place to walk your dog) follows the Truckee river for several miles and can be accessed in a 15 minute walk through town from my house.
