This is a private, sunny, in-law unit with beautiful views of the hills that is perfect for two. The location is easy to get around; public transport and freeways are really close. Perfect for visiting SF or as a base to go down to the valley.
This private in-law unit is where Saramanda's dad stays when he is in town. Consequently, it is decorated with her grandmother's 19th century British hunting scenes.
It is a large studio: 655 sq ft of space with 8 ft ceilings. The house is built on a slope, so the southern-facing windows let in a lot of sunlight, and have great views of the hills on the other side of the valley.
The whole house has been recently remodeled. The bedroom area has a queen size bed and a papa-san chair in which to lounge. There is a large closet and chest of drawers for all your clothes. In case you need it, there is an ironing board with an electric iron.
The kitchenette has an induction stove, microwave, toaster oven, a fridge , a dishwasher and enough pots, pans, cutlery and canned food/dry goods to easily accommodate four hungry people. We usually leave some goodies from our fruit/vegetable CSA for our guests as well.
The living area has a couch. There is a TV hooked up to an PS3 and an Apple TV. While we don't have cable, the Apple TV is connected to HBO Now, Netflix, Amazon, Hulu and of course iTunes. We have a bunch of PS3 games and DVDs should you choose to play or watch a movie the old fashioned way. And, of course, there is wifi with a high-speed connection.
The in-law unit has a patio with two Adirondack chairs from which to sit and admire the view. Additionally, there in is an outdoor bench, chairs and table on the deck. This deck leads to an unfinished garden area that you are welcome to use.
There is no washer/dryer in the unit. Wash and fold laundry is a few minutes walk up Monterey. With enough advanced planning, we can arrange for you to use our washer/dryer upstairs.
Titus, our 12-lb chihuahua, would love to have other dogs around, although cats might be a problem: we haven't asked him yet. Either way, he and his human brother Ari sleep and hang out 3 floors above this unit. Though, you might hear either/both of them during the day.
Extra guests can be accommodated with our full size air mattress (inquire if you need it). We also have pack-n-play if you have kids. Note, however, that the unit is not child-proofed.
Accès des voyageurs
You will have a private entrance to this space. The backyard has a garden and you are welcome to that as well.
Échanges avec les voyageurs
We live upstairs and are always up for meeting our guests. On most Sundays, we do a Steak Sunday (which happens occasionally on other days and has other than steaks, as well) and you are welcome to join us. Just let us know if you are joining. Of course, joining us for this or any other interaction is entirely up to you.
Parking on the street is free and we rarely need to look beyond our block. Thursday 1-3pm is street cleaning and is the only time you cannot park on the street. The side streets have a 2 or 4 hour restriction during the day-time.
NOTE: Parking enforcement can be a bit over-zealous. Be sure to not block driveways or red zones that are near driveways. The red on the sidewalks can be a bit harder to see, so please pay attention.
Pets allowed. No smoking. Treat this like you would your place.
This is Saramanda and Venkat. We met in '08 and got married in '10.
Saramanda is a writer and teaches at CCSF. Venkat is the co-founder of a B2B Marketing startup Mariana. In June of 14, Titus Maximus, our 12-pound chihuahua, welcomed his human brother, Ari.
