The Seaside Hideaway is a lovingly restored chalet located on the ‘Humberston Fitties’, a secluded conservation site. It's literally a stone’s throw from the quiet sandy beach, and possibly the closest place to the sea in the whole of Lincolnshire.
Ideal for those who love being close to nature, enjoy the great outdoors or who just want to enjoy a quieter pace of life.
'The Fitties' is described by many as a time capsule. An opportunity to enjoy a quiet restful holiday just like they used to be

Le logement
From the end of September until March, the Seaside Hideaway turns into a ‘Winter Cabin’. Faux fur throws, snuggly blankets, and thermos flasks at the ready. Winter is a very special time to visit.

Grey seals return to the Lincolnshire coast in great numbers in late October, November and December, and give birth to their pups right on the sand dunes. A few may be seen on the Cleethorpes beaches, - and Donna Nook National Nature Reserve is just a 25 minute drive. Last year, over 2000 pups were born at Donna Nook, - it really is a very special experience and thousands of visitors come to see it. The best time to visit to see the seals is in November and early December.

For bird watchers, the RSBP Tetney Marshes nature reserve is a short walk away and the Humber Observatory is close by in Cleethorpes.

The beach next to the chalet is almost desolate in Winter. Enjoy a long bracing walk along the shore or coastal path and then come back to the chalet for a hot chocolate and enjoy a classic game of monopoly or scrabble.

In April, the Seaside Hideaway is dressed again for the Summer months. Buckets and spades, beach games, beach chairs and loungers are at the ready for you to pick up and pop down to the sandy beach. - And it’s just 2 minutes back to the chalet for a cup of tea or lunch.

The Fitties is still very quiet even in the Summer months, so it’s just the place you need to relax and unwind. The children can run around and play, make dens, play games and enjoy a traditional family holiday – just how they used to be!

For babies and toddlers, a high chair and travel cot are available and there are also lots of children's games & toys tucked underneath the bunk beds.

Dogs are also very welcome to come and stay. Dogs love it here and we love dogs.

The garden has decking and a table for outdoor dining and it is fully fenced and gated.
It also has a lockable storage shed where you may store any outdoor equipment or bikes.

The kitchen is well equipped for cooking too with oven, fridge, microwave and cooking equipment. We try to provide everything you might need to enjoy a traditional holiday by the beach.

Accès des voyageurs
The whole chalet is yours to enjoy.

The 'Fitties' is a quirkly place, and the numbering of the chalets makes no logical sense. Please follow the directions carefully:

To reach the Fitties:

From the North: Drive along Cleethorpes sea front until you reach the roundabout near The Beachcomber and go straight on, and through Thorpe Park caravan site until you've passed the car park on your left, around the double bend and onto the one way system.

From the west: Drive right to the end of Humberston village's North Sea Lane, then go right at the roundabout near The Beachcomber caravan park, and through Thorpe Park caravan site until you've passed the car park on your left, around the double bend and onto the one way system

From the south: Humberston is the next village after Tetney on the coast
road. Drive right to the end of Humberston village's North Sea Lane, then go right at the roundabout near The Beachcomber caravan park, and through Thorpe Park caravan site until you've passed the car park on your left, around the double bend and onto the one way system and through Thorpe Park caravan site until you've passed the car park on your left, around the double bend and onto the one way system.

Once you're on the 'Fitties':

Just before re-joining the two way system there's a single track going straight on which is a dead end, and this is 4th Avenue. Number 13 is the second chalet on your left. (A new one is being built just before it.)
There are two parking places on the driveway of the chalet, which should suffice for most guests.

Autres points à prendre en note
Please note that the Humberston Fitties is not well served by modern technology, but this is what helps makes it such a haven of peace and tranquility. There is no wi-fi at this property and limited mobile signal.

A (weak) mobile signal can usually be found at the gate of the chalet and there are plenty of cafes in Cleethorpes that offer free wi-fi

The History of 'The Fitties’:

Built on former salt marshes, it was originally a camp for WW1 soldiers, garrisoned to two offshore forts in the Humber Estuary, known as Haille Sand and Bull Sand, - both half a mile offshore on opposite sides of the estuary.

Constructed on a submerged sandbank, these armor-plated forts provided crucial defense for our coastline .The forts were de-commissioned in 1956 and quickly fell into a state of disrepair, but they are both still a sight to behold from the beach.

During the wars, most of the soldiers were based on land at The Fitties, but quite a few of them were based on the forts themselves.

The forts are now up for sale for £250,000 each. We’d love to buy them and turn them into holiday homes!

The Development of ‘The Fitties’

After the soldiers moved out, the site transformed from a makeshift campsite into a small hamlet of chalets re-developed by locals. A local community has now formed which treasures the past and the slow and gentle pace of life.

If you need a cup of sugar – try asking next door! Turn off the TV in the evenings and go for a stroll along the beach and pick up shells or look under the bed and find a board game to play.

Enjoying ‘The Fitties’ is all about enjoying life how it used to be. It’s a little piece of history, and we hope you enjoy it just as much as we do.

Cleethorpes is just a short drive away and is a lovely little sea-side town

Grimsby
Up until the 1950’s, the port of Grimsby was home to the largest fishing fleet in the world. Its docks were crammed with hundreds of trawlers, providing livelihoods to thousands of fisherman. Sadly, it went into demise in the 1950’s, but Grimsby Docks still continue to produce traditional smoked fish which now are an officially recognized local food delicacy. Please just ask us if you'd like to know where you can go and buy this for yourselves.

Retired engineer who knows it all and has plenty of time to tell you about it! Originally bought this chalet to be as close as possible to the sea, which I love to be on and in.
Durant votre séjour
I live in a property just a couple of minutes walk away, and when at home would be available to help with any questions or queries during your stay. I have lived here for many years and know lots about the local area and how to make the most of 'the fitties' and Cleethorpes.
