This cozy two bedroom home sits on a rural dirt road overlooking fields, woods, and the NH mountains. Watch birds from the window, relax on the patio, and enjoy the flower gardens. The cottage boasts modern amenities mixed with antiques.

Le logement
See the light change over NH mountains while watching the birds! This small home near the top of Breeze Hill overlooks a field where a horse or sheep often graze in summer and sparkling snow blankets in winter, with a stunning view of the mountains beyond. Watch the sunrise over the mountains change position with the seasons. In summer hummingbirds feed and bird boxes are home to tree swallows, bluebirds, chickadees, and wrens. In winter the feeder attracts woodpeckers, nuthatches, chickadees, blue jays, finches and a few squirrels. In summer relax on the roofed patio enjoying the view. Many flowers and flowering shrubs edge the yard.

This home blends the old with the new. It is the owner-built home of Hartland natives Wendell and his wife, Lillian, a “farm girl” and writer who was instrumental in preserving Eshqua Bog. Heidi’s parents actually cut the trees, sawed the boards on their own small mill, and constructed the house. The original pine cupboards as well as bedroom and living room floors remain. All of the trim in the living room was made from a single butternut tree. Self-published books tell the story of their lives.

This house comfortably sleeps four with the possibility of an additional two. A bathroom with shower, washer, and dryer connects two bedrooms. This does mean that anyone sleeping on the pull out couch passes through one of the bedrooms to reach the bathroom. In one, a full bed is angled to allow sipping coffee in bed while looking out at the mountains through the screen door in summer. Only this bedroom has air conditioning! The other has a queen-sized bed and no air conditioning. The cozy living room provides a view of the bird feeder and mountains as well as having HD TV, extremely fast fiber optic wireless internet, and a sleeper couch. Most appliances are new. The kitchen has the original enameled table where chairs on either side look out to the bird feeder, flowers and mountains.

Accès des voyageurs
Since 2014 we have been committed to provided a safe rural Vermont experience for our guests that is reasonably priced. We clean the cottage ourselves and have always prided ourselves on our cleanliness standards and have never charged a cleaning fee. However, due to the Covid 19 pandemic, as of June 27, 2020 we find it necessary to charge a one time fee of $40 that covers the extra time and supplies required to meet state, CDC and Airbnb cleaning protocols. We are sorry we have to do this and we appreciate your understanding as we attempt to keep everyone safe when they visit Breeze Hill Cottage. This house is separate from our own residence so guests will have the entire main floor of the home to themselves. The upstairs and cellar have not been remodeled and are not part of the rental space. There is a full kitchen with coffee maker, toaster, microwave, electric range, dishwasher, and refrigerator with ice maker. The house is stocked with a full set of cooking and dining utensils. The bathroom includes a shower, washer and dryer. There is a roofed patio complete with outdoor furniture. A large lawn has flower beds and a fire pit. A swing set is available for children.
We do visit the property daily when we have sheep in the field, but avoid disturbing guests.

Autres points à prendre en note
Our fiber optic wireless is extremely fast and efficient. If you need to bring your work with you (which we would never recommend!) Breeze Hill is the place to combine work with play!

It is important to know that Airbnb will be adding 9% Vermont Room and Meals tax to your bill! This is new; Airbnb now charges this to you directly and then pays the state of VT, rather than having all of us do that! We don't want this to be a surprise to you!

Also, in the winter Vermont is often snowy or icy! There is a little slope to walk up to the house, which is shoveled and sanded. However, when it is storming this may be slick! Wear appropriate footwear!

As mentioned before, this is a rural setting! That means there are no taxis, no pizza delivery, no public transport from the house. It is 3 miles to the nearest restaurant that serves dinner only. It means a 5 or 6 mile drive to a store, gas station, bank, diner, and post office in Hartland, or a 7 mile drive to the larger village of Woodstock with more stores, banks, restaurants, etc. That is no big deal for people who live here; this isn't even considered a small back road and is on the school bus route. If you have always lived in the city and have never been to Vermont, you will find this an adventure!

Hartland, Vermont, États-Unis

While not being isolated, there is still lots of privacy. Hartland truly is in the heart of Vermont. There are many open fields edged by stonewalls and bordered by older hardwood dominated forests. We observe a wide variety of wildlife and often have our sheep in the field in back of the house in summer. Other farms nearby have a variety of animals as well as maple sugaring operations.

Situated on a dirt road, this is a perfect location for walking, running, or biking. Of course, dirt roads in Vermont become snow covered in winter and muddy in spring! We advise at least 3 season tires in the winter, preferably winter tires, for anywhere in VT, not only this home. This is a rural setting. In VT there are only street lights in towns and cities. Outside of villages, there are no street lights on paved or dirt roads. Therefore, people from an urban environment find these roads dark. There is only one close neighbor and the cottage is bordered by 200 acres of farm land, so there are few other lights around. Our house does have motion activated lights beside the drive, the walk, and the entry to the house. And the stars are beautiful without the light pollution! But be advised: this isn't the suburbs! This is rural Vermont!

I am co-hosting with my husband, Tom Wetmore. We were both special educaton teachers and both retired in June 2018. We have two grown daughters. Our eldest is also a preschool special educator and was married in June 2017 in front of the cottage. Our younger daughter graduated in 2017 from Middlebury College, majoring in environmental studies with a focus in nonfiction writing. She just came back from 5 months in New Zealand. We keep a few sheep, usually maple sugar in the spring, cross-country ski, snowshoe, and walk. Tom loves to make his own wine and roast his coffee. I love to garden. Both of us like dancing. When we are not in VT we can be found in Prince Edward Island, Canada, where we have our vacation house and often kayak.
