We live in the neighborhood and are happy to share what we love about it.
This is a diverse downtown neighborhood filled with charming older homes with character and fun restaurants. I would say it is on the humble side of hip. We are 5 blocks from Japantown which hosts a Sunday farmers market and many great restaurants and bars. There is a library down the street and 3 parks within walking distance. There is an amazing historic pool also within walking distance.
San Jose State 1/2 mile
San Jose Convention Center 1.8 mile
We fell in love with the neighborhood when we were dating and used to walk for hours. We stumbled upon Backesto Park near our house and loved walking around the park and experiencing so many cultures. It is one of our favorite things about the neighborhood.
This neighborhood has a nice mix of working class families, yuppies, and retired folks. We do live on the corner of a busy street- in the city but with a very definite neighborhood feel. We hope you enjoy our neighborhood and all Downtown San Jose has to offer as much as we do!
We look forward to meeting you and making sure your stay is comfortable. Please let us know how we can help in planning your trip!
We LOVE the neighborhood, but if you are looking for a gated community this is not the house for you. If you want to be close to all downtown and Japantown has to offer, and yet stay in a beautiful house with a cute garden area- come on down!
We look forward to making your stay great!

There are bike lanes that go right past the house and we are happy to share two bikes and tell you where the great places to ride are. Be careful! There are confusing one-way streets all over downtown- and even though there are bike lanes, folks in SJ don't quite get it- yet.
The nice thing about San Jose is that it is smack dab in the middle of all the Bay Area has to offer. If you are coming to California and you want to see a lot- it doesn't get much better.
San Francisco- 45 minutes
SFO- 30 minutes
SJ Airport- 5 minutes
Santa Cruz- 30 minutes
Monterey- 1 hour
We are close to all major freeways so it takes a minute to get out of dodge!
We can provide 2 bikes. You can park in front of the house on the street, or in our fenced driveway. Children are welcome. We know all the cool places for kids in the bay area!
We tend to appreciate the quirky things about our neighborhood. We'll tell you where to buy fresh (live) fish, where to play bocce for free, the best marinated meats ready to be thrown on the bbq, the best pub, dive bar, an amazing restaurant only open 5 days a week for lunch (you may be afraid to walk in but trust us), where to buy the best sandwiches for $2. We also know some great upscale restaurants so if you would like to plan a special date we can help with that as well.
Our washer and dryer are in the basement which is accessed from inside the house.
Accès des voyageurs
Guests have the entire house. Hosts live in the neighborhood and will give you privacy but are available to answer questions should you have any.
Échanges avec les voyageurs
We live in the neighborhood and are happy to give advice and respond to questions.
Please keep your shoes off of furniture and beds.
We are required to let you know that we have a security camera outside the home.
No smoking, drugs or parties. Please be clear in letting us know if you intend to have someone over that is not included in the reservation- ahead of time. Absolutely no parties. Respect our wonderful neighbors by not parking in front of their homes and not being loud after 10. Treat our home as if it is your own. If there is a problem- let us know- we are in the neighborhood and can help!
No feminine products or baby wipes in the toilet. Toilet will plug and we will charge you.
Limit air conditioner and heat use. Air goes to 78. Turn it off when you leave the house. Air shuts off when it is cool outside- open the windows. If this is a problem discuss it with us before booking the house. In our area even on the hottest days it often cools to the 50s at night. We expect folks to be willing to open the windows when it cools down rather than running the air.
If you have special needs that require constant air conditioning you may be more comfortable in a different home.
Heat can be turned up to 75. Turn it off when you leave the house.
Thank you for respecting our rules and the environment.
Checkout time is 11am. Wash dishes and leave beds unmade. Take out garbage and recycling and straighten up. If you leave the house a mess you may be charged extra for cleaning time. If you leave garbage that requires extra bags this will be charged. I only add this because someone unloaded all their worldly belongings into the house before moving overseas and said that the cleaning fee should cover the dump fees and cleaning up their stuff. We are reasonable people. If you are reasonable this should never be an issue and there will not be charges!
I have a massage therapy business and over 20 years experience doing bodywork. I enjoy good coffee, gardening, reading, running, and nature. My husband Brendan and I have lived in the downtown area for 14 years and are happy to share what we love about the neighborhood, as well as the bay area. Brendan is an avid mountain biker and Industrial Designer. Our boys are 7 and 11, and keep us busy. We have a secret latch in the fence between our awesome neighbors and our house, and all the kids in the neighborhood are at one of the two houses. We love it.
Now that we have kids hotels don't work for us. We need a kitchen, we need some room to spread out, and we love a yard. It is always nice to have a little privacy as well. When we travel we love to stay in people's homes and now that we have decided to host we are committed to creating a relaxing and nurturing space. We live in the neighborhood still and will most likely be available any time you have a question or need help with something.
As a couple we are just remembering what we used to enjoy doing before kids. We enjoyed traveling, walking around our city with no destination in mind, eating at quirky restaurants, art, and meeting fabulous people.
We look forward to meeting you!
