The house is located in an old hutong near the famous Nanluoguxiang street in Gulou area. It is 60m2, one bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, big living room, and yard. It is a really good place to stay if you want to enjoy Beijing local life.

Le logement

the house is located in a humongous historical yard from the late Qing dynasty, in the famous black sesame alley. The main house of the compound used to be the residence of the late imperial ministry of coal and my house used to be the residence of the guards of the minister. It is Carefully renovated with bamboo wooden floor and oriental interior design. This is a private entity and you will have exclusive access to the whole guardian house.
It is convenient for a family with kids to stay because the living room is very spacious and with the foldable sofas, can be transformed into a bed room. The interior design is minimal, with some Zen ENSO paintings, some antique furniture, persian pattern curtains/rug, and plenty of beautiful plants which you will need to water. The living room is a nice space to hold meditation/yoga sessions.

It was great pleasure to stay here. Unique, traditional and cozy atmosphere made me feel comfortable and learn more about Beijing. And Adele was kind, warm and just a perfect host!

Adel's place was great and he was an excellent host. The apartment is in a hutong alleyway in the heart of Beijing. It served as a perfect base for exploring the city. The place was clean and spacious and easy fit my friend and I. Adel was available when we needed him and I'd highly recommend staying at his pad.

This was a great place to stay for 3 weeks. The neighborhood is unbeatable for getting a slice of old and new Beijing life, and the hutong courtyard atmosphere and neighbors were charming. The apartment is exactly as pictured. In the neighborhood, there are innumerable places to eat, from simple noodle shops to more fancy. We really enjoyed the morning market with fresh fruit and as well as early walks around the lake. Subway is convenient, too. Most people in the neighborhood are very friendly and you will not have a problem even if you don't speak Chinese. We didn't interact with host much as he was out of the country most of the time. But he responded promptly to all inquiries and it was very nice to meet him at the end. I should add that I and my two teenage daughters are very comfortable with Chinese life already from living in Beijing. Some of the amenities (such as shower and slower internet) are not exactly what you would expect from a Western hotel. This was no problem for us, but we are accustomed to it and appreciate that it is more authentic, like what the neighbors would have.

If you want an immersion into traditional "hutong" (alley) life in Beijing, this is the place to be! You are tucked inside a large courtyard complex and get a strong sense of the neighborhood rhythms and personalities. And the shops, restaurants, and bars of one of Beijing's liveliest areas (Gulou) are just a stone's throw away. I felt lucky to get to stay at Adel's sweet courtyard flat for two weeks. Adel himself was a wonderful host. He gave me a tour of the neighborhood, from the vegetable market to the morning dumpling shop to the barber and the local Italian restaurant. He was easy to contact through (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN), and responded quickly to my requests. I would stay again, in a heartbeat! When I say immersion, I mean that you will experience the pros and the cons of simple hutong housing! The main living room is spacious and serene, but the shower is very low water pressure and if you need to do any laundry, you'll be hanging it outside in the courtyard. I didn't do any cooking so can't speak to the kitchen.
