Windscape Cottage is on the southern tip of the island with spectacular views across the sea to Bequia and Mustique. It is about half an hours drive from the centre of Kingstown but only a short ride to places like Indian Bay, Villa beach and the hotels and restaurants on this stretch of coast by Young Island. The cottage is in the grounds of Lavinias house which is in a very smart residential area. Although there are lots of other houses around, the cottage is very private with a beautiful mature garden providing a sense of near seclusion. A profusion of birds, including humming birds, bats, fireflies, butterflies, lizards etc. could make you think you were in the rain forest. A car is very useful but I would say not essential. It took us 15 minutes to walk from the cottage to the main road where dollar vans are available to take you in all directions. Taxis are plentiful and charges are set by government so quite reasonable. The host, Lavinia, made such a difference to our stay that she deserves a special mention. Lavinia treated us more like house guests than paying customers. Her kindness and generosity was remarkable. The cottage was very well equipped. We did quite a bit of cooking and everything we needed was already there. We were amazed at how well stocked the fridge was, including butter, eggs, bread, milk, home made marmalade, fresh fruit, milk, cheese, yoghurt and Lavinias rum punch. There were lots of other provisions such as tea, coffee, sugar, olive oil, salt, pepper etc. which you cannot always take for granted. Lavinia knows St. Vincent well and is well known across the island. We kept meeting people who know her. Lavinia was always on hand to give advice and make suggestions and went to great effort to find out about the Bequia ferry sailings on the day of our departure. She even invited us to join her on trip to the local fish market to buy some of the days catch. Windscape Cottage suited our holiday style down to the ground and I would highly recommend it.
