A quiet room in our garden house close to Duke and downtown. Have coffee on the patio, listen to falling water from the rock pool, watch birds come to the feeder. Free loaner bikes available, airport pickups-$25, Duke or downtown rides - $5.
Located on the edge of historic Forest Hills neighborhood on a quiet, leafy, residential street, our sweet cottage is covered in vines, with many gardens, water features, grape arbor, fruit trees, and multiple patios for sitting out and watching the many birds at the feeders. Your private room is connected to the internet. The airbnb bathroom has a full shower, with soap and shampoo for guests, and is sometimes shared if there is another airbnb guest. Guests are also able to use the hosts' bathroom if there is any need.
Free, unrestricted and plentiful parking is on the street in front of the house.
We are a mile to two miles from downtown Durham, Duke University, Duke hospital, Duke Gardens, American Tobacco, the Brightleaf District, Durham Performing Arts Center, the Durham Ballpark, and most of Durham's best restaurants. We are just a few blocks from the American Tobacco Trail, and have free loaner bikes, with helmets and locks, for our visitors.
We will pick up guests for free from Amtrak or the bus station.
We offer $25 pick up or drop off from RDU airport--cheaper than taxis, similar to Uber/Lyft. We also will be willing to give lifts around the downtown/Duke area for $5 if we aren't busy. We have an two friendly, mid-sized dogs who quietly welcome all guests and one large personable cat who deals with anything that comes his way. The airbnb room, however, is off limits to the pets in consideration of fur-sensitive guests.
We serve gourmet, French press coffee, and fresh made muffins on your first morning. Have it on the patio in the garden! We love visitors and can help steer you to the best of Durham, including cheap eats and gourmet treats, hiking/biking trails, museums, events, and the nightlife scene.
When we have airbnb guests staying in our outside cottage room, you would share the guest bathroom that is across from your room. If needed, guests can also use the other bathroom/shower in the house.
When we've had double bookings we've had great luck with everyone--instant parties have formed with a bottle of wine around the dining table or out on the patio. We seem to be under some fortunate moon that brings very compatible people here -- charming, interesting, and with advanced social skills.
If you're interested in our outside, more private room, look for our other listing titled "Creamsicle Cottage Near Duke & Downtown". (click on our profile and then look on the left for our other listings). That room is much larger and more private with microfridge and microwave for the same price, but you have to come into the main house for the bathroom/shower.
We really enjoy hosting and being a guest through airbnb, We've met some wonderful and interesting people from all over the world, some of whom have become friends and returning guests.

I am a teacher, writer, photographer, reader, traveler, and lover of children and animals. I love big long novels, hiking to remote canyons, exploring side streets in European cities, and walking my dogs. My husband, Stuart, and I travel as often as we can, and like to stay at hostels, monastaries, and off-beat lodgings. My husband is a musician, web designer, movie buff, and, as I was told nearly thirty years ago when I first met him and his friend was describing him to me, no matter what we do,he always has more fun than anyone else.
