High on a hill, this 1877 Gothic Revival Victorian overlooks Staunton and the mountains. Light-filled, airy and quiet. Property backs up to Woodrow Park, which leads to the Sears Hill pedestrian bridge and downtown. Beautiful views of the city.

Le logement

This old house is undergoing a complete renovation. The two-story apartment is recently finished and ready for guests. A complete kitchen and living/dining area are on the first floor with a large covered porch. Upstairs includes a 4-piece bathroom with jetted tub & two-person shower, laundry, walk-in closet and balcony with mountain views. Did I mention the jetted tub?

Accès des voyageurs

Both porches are available for dining or relaxing. Large half-acre yard (we're just getting started on landscaping), Woodrow Park & historic Sears Hill, short walk to downtown restaurants and shopping

Échanges avec les voyageurs

We're glad to welcome you to our "renovation vacation" home, and happy to help you settle in. You will have a private entrance and key, so can come and go as you wish. If we are not in town, our good friend and neighbor will greet you and act as the host for your visit.

Autres remarques

Even though the apartment is finished, much of the house is still under renovation. If you'd like to see the "before" and we're in town, we'll gladly give you a tour.

This was our second stay at Shea and Rus's place, and it was just as lovely as the first! Really can't beat the convenience and beauty of the location - this time we had fantastic weather, which made the little walk to and from town even nicer. Shea and Rus provide everything you could need or want, and as always are super responsive. We cannot wait to return!

We love the location of this house, good access to AT for day hikes and easy walking distance to town over train bridge. Staunton has wonderful history and this house feels part of it, being lovingly restored by its owners. Larry played 'concierge' welcoming us and our dog )when we arrived. Lovely touches like flowers in several rooms...we felt very well taken care of!

THe building is a little quirky, but the apartment is quite nice and comfortable..

Shea and Rus's place was perfect for our stay in Staunton. The entire downtown area is allowable from the house and the two level porch is great for relaxing when the weather cools down. This is an excellent choice for any couple looking for a place to unwind

Don't let your first impression of Shea and Rus's place be off-putting. While the main house is still undergoing extensive renovation, the apartment in the back is charming, well-appointed, and perfect for one or two people. With a side porch and upstairs balcony, you get to relax with a view of the yard and surrounding neighborhood while maintaining privacy. The apartment is within walking distance of downtown Staunton, an up-and-coming cultural hotspot with the American Shakespeare Center and several restaurants within a 15-minute walk. A couple of notes: the staircase to the upstairs bedroom is narrow and would be difficult for someone with gait or leg problems to negotiate; also, there is no television, which was actually a point in its favor for us! We will be returning several times to Staunton to visit our daughter attending Mary Baldwin, so hope to stay here whenever we come back.

Réponse de Shea & Rus :
Sharon, thank you for your thoughtful review. You could write for a travel magazine! We're glad you enjoyed the no-TV apartment, and yes, that was deliberate. So many people watch "TV" on their computers and the wifi we provide makes that easy. The issue of the apartment stairs is a tough one. They are somewhat narrow and a little steep but if I include that information in our listing, I'm afraid no one would stay with us out of concern. I'm glad to share that info but don't want to put anyone off. Any suggestions? We DO allow cats traveling with our guests. So far we've had two guests with cats and it worked out fine. We plan to move to Staunton next year and that's when the EXTERIOR renovations will be begin. Glad you didn't allow the "Munsters-house" to deter you!

My husband and I love restoring old houses and are working on an 1877 Victorian in Staunton, Virginia. We live in Maryland but travel to Staunton often to work on the house and enjoy the beautiful Shenandoah Valley. Rus is a carpenter and is using his skills to revive this old house. We created an apartment in the Victorian, separated from the rest of the house, and have been using it when we are in town. We love Staunton with the pre-Civil War-era architecture, fun restaurants, art galleries and antique shops. And that says a lot about us - history, art and good food are some of our favorite things! We always travel with our dog - Iggy - and yours would be welcome at the house too. We are excited to welcome AirBNB guests to our house and believe you will thoroughly enjoy beautiful little Staunton and our cozy apartment.
