Le logement
Only 15 minutes from bustling Malindi town you find a completely different world .

You can find yourself dropping off to sleep with the sounds of hippos from the river nearby , and waking to a chorus of birdsong .
The house is a wonderful peaceful retreat .
The house is rustic ,yet comfortable and spacious .
There's plenty of room to spread out your yoga mat !
Beautiful wide mango wood floors are a pleasure underfoot .
The house climbs up through four different levels ,each with different aspects and views.
The bedroom is upstairs with views over the dunes to the ocean .
The house is completely protected on the windward side, and open on the other . This gives a beautiful open- to- the- elements atmosphere.
There are four different relaxing view areas .

It IS simple, natural living however .
The shower is a watering can and the ( water flush ) loo is outside .
The bed is Japanese style on woven mats on the floor .
Water for showering and washing up is bought daily from the local wells .

All this is part of the charm of a quite unique home .

Accès des voyageurs
You will have full access to the 40 acre conservancy, the adjoining lands and local village area .

You can organise to view the local hippos , and be shown the world recognised migrating bird sanctuary at the river mouth .
Flamingos, pelicans ,herons ,geese can be seen as well as many other species .

The historic town of Mambrui is just ten minutes away .

Autres points à prendre en note
When you come to Kivulini conservancy , you will be looked after by my staff members , Ngala and Kingi .
Both are married with families living close by and have been working here for ten years .
Ngala is the day time property manager . He will be organising domestic duties around the house . He will clean , wash up ,sweep etc .
He has a great understanding of the property and the area and is always happy to show guests around .
Kingi is the nightwatchman . He has a motorbike and is always ready to run errands .
Food basics including vegetables, drinking water and long life milk can be bought in the local village . For bigger shopping Kingi can be sent to Malindi if you do not want to leave the property . Please pay him 150 shillings for fuel if you send him to Malindi .

There are no power points at the house . All charging is done at a local charging shop in the village . It's recommended to send power packs instead of the phones .

The batteries that power the lights are charged at the village and connected at the house each evening . As well as three ceiling lights there are three reading lights that are charged each day .

Water for showering and washing up is bought from the local wells by our neighbour Eunice and her daughters.

Note ))) when someone arrives at the house front steps they call out 'Hodi!'
It means 'I am here in peace ' )))

When you arrive you will find fruit , coffee and drinking water . Kingi will bring mandazis ( local doughnuts) for breakfast each morning .

Kingi or Ngala can organise transport to town , either motorbike or tuktuk . Please note - Always have your passport on you in Kenya .

Occasionally , you might notice trucks that come into our end of the valley . They come to illegally mine sand near the river . The community actively oppose this habit and it is dying out .

What else ? Please never walk beyond the fenced house boundaries at night , because of the risk of meeting hippos . (The hippos are excellent nightwatchmen .) In daytime you will be safe to roam around the area .

The main thing we ask guests to understand is - when you come here you come under the umbrella of protection of the community around . All the neighbours are the same tribe and most are close family as well . So ,combined with the close proximity of the police at the village, you are in a very safe situation.

We wish you a happy and enjoyable stay !!
