It's like going to grandma's house...

We welcome you to enjoy our family home place, in Derby NC, built in 1920 by Chuck's grandparents. It sits in the middle of 35 wooded/farmed acres, giving it the most serene feeling. Just 12.5 miles from Pinehurst (about a 25 min drive), this is a place you can retreat to & enjoy going back in time to the simpler days.

Le logement
We've been restoring and improving the home over the last few years. It's still a work in process but it's quite lovely. We've really tried to keep the country charm so you'll find a blend of antiques and rustic items throughout the home..

The home will comfortably sleep 8-10, with the last two being on a daybed with trundle pull out. You'll find the rooms are quite large and there's plenty of space both indoors and outdoors for your group to hang out. We host our family gathering here 3 times a year so there are multiple dining tables. If you would like to host a cook out or family gathering here during the day please let us know at the time of booking. It is possible with an extra fee, and it's the perfect space for it!

The kitchen is small for today's standards but fully functional. We offer a few snacks and coffee items to get you started. We've tried to stock as many cooking accessories as possible in the space. If you know you'll need a specific appliance just ask and we can probably get there if it isn't.

There is WiFi and one TV in the living room. It's not a smart TV and there's no cable but we do have a selection of movies for young and old. We also have a good amount of books and board games. In Derby we like to "unplug" and enjoy the simpler things likes swinging on the porch, going for a hike, or talking with friends. We think you will appreciate the chance to do those also.

A large yard, a swingset, and a collection of sporting goods are available outdoors to entertain the children.

There are two bedrooms downstairs and two upstairs. There is a new full bath upstairs. The original bath downstairs is on the enclosed back porch. It sounds crazy but it actually adds to the fun.

The home is out in the country so it's not going to be as convenient as the other homes you'll find in Pinehurst, Southern Pines or Rockingham, but what you give up with a little extra driving time will definitely pay off with the unique experience you have here. We are so excited to be able to share this special place with you!

Ellerbe, Caroline du Nord, États-Unis

Derby is a small agricultural community that started in the early 1900's when wealthy businessmen from the north decided to come strike it rich growing peaches. You can still see the peach orchards and other crops in the area. In Derby (not really a town, just and area) there's a great old-fashioned General Store, open seasonally, that serves ice cream and sells fresh produce- you have to stop here if it's open! The area is popular with cyclist b/c its' relatively flat, so bring your bike! We have a few smaller bikes for kids. If you enjoy cows, farms and barns, and the occasional sheep or horse, you'll love the area. For more sophisticated fun, just drive into town.

Seven Lakes, Pinehurst, Southern Pines, Aberdeen, Rockingham are all 20-30 minutes away. In these towns you'll find an array of shopping, dining, and entertainment. Golf is abundant, there's pottery, parks, bowling, craft breweries, historic places, cinemas, antique stores, etc. There's plenty to do while you visit. We have a visitor guide at the house but let us know ahead of time what you are interested in and we'll send you some suggestions.

Raleigh, Durham, Fayetteville, Charlotte and Greensboro are all less than 2 hours away if you want to explore some larger cities.

Chuck and I like to think we bring balance to the world... I am an artsy, yoga loving, hippie vegetarian and he is a methodical gun loving hunter that works as a chemical engineer. Lol. But it works. I am a real estate broker with a serious house-habit. When I was younger I said I would collect houses, and well, we’ve started doing that. So to justify the habit we’ve decided to rent them out. After all, it’s an expensive habit to keep up!! Chuck and I both love traveling. One of our future homes will no doubt, be an RV. But for now we enjoy staying at Bed and Breakfasts, Airbnb’s and doing home Exhange. When forced, we will get a hotel. In our houses you’ll see a nice blend of masculine and feminine influences. While I do most of the decorating, Chuck helps on occasion and I often drag him with me to antique shops to help me select pieces. So whether you are a hippie or a hunter, I think you’ll feel comfortable staying with us. Thank you for supporting my habit!!

Durant votre séjour

We live in Pinehurst and this is our second home in Derby. The other is The Historic Tuckerman Manor on Airbnb. So we are often close-by working. We are happy to meet you upon arrival and show the house and the land or pop in at some point if you are curious about the history. There is a combination box with a key, so it isn't necessary for us to meet you at check in. Depending on the length of your stay you may at some point, see us driving to the barn to pick up tools or equipment but we'll just wave and keep going.
