Excellent holiday in a beautiful location, wish we were still there! Good communication from host, everything went smoothly.
When we arrived at night there was a little welcome sign left on the door and we soon began to feel at home. This is a very big house, 10 people could stay here and not bump into each other all of the time.
When we woke the following morning we got our first view of the valley, everywhere you look is beautifully green and the old mill race still runs alongside property. There is a rowing boat you can use to go back and forth a short distance. The garden runs adjacent to the mill race for several hundred feet into a small woodland where there is a badminton net. There is an out building with a BBQ and firewood. There are sun loungers and a hammock scattered around the garden.
The bedrooms are comfortable and the kitchen has everything you need.
There are some family members who live a little further down the track, they are very friendly lovely people, I wish my French was better and could have spoken to them more. If you need anything, someone is on hand. Otherwise, you are not disturbed.
There is a lot to do in the area, we went on plenty of walks and did some canoeing. The village is about 20mins walk away, it has a butcher's and a couple of convenience stores.
If you stay here (which I recommend!) you can walk down the drive, across the road and straight up the path to a small hill top hamlet with a castle (10-15mins walk). If you stay in the summer, make sure you go to the market in Loubejac on Wednesday evening. It is only a couple of km away and well worth it, there is hot food for sale and everyone sits at tables together enjoying it, stunning location and a really nice holiday memory. There is also a very good summer market on Saturday evening in Saint Pompon, the confit of duck was the best we tried during the holiday. There is an incredible vineyard/wine tasting house near the prehistoric cave of Abri du Cap Blanc near Les Eyzies.
These are just a few highlights, there is a lot to explore, just walk out the front door and turn left up into the hills and you could walk in the woods for hours.
All in all a great stay!
