445 Seaside ave.

This is the worst Air BNB property I've ever rented. This place was terrible. I am angry that I got duped into renting this condo. I'm even more angry that it has so many 4 and 5 star reviews. This condo supposedly comes with a washer and dryer. But when we arrived there was a note on the washer saying 'Do not use'. We found out that the washer and dryer have been broken for some time. The previous renter described not having a washer and dryer for 13 days. The manager told us 'stackable units are hard to find’. Said it might take a while to find a new unit. We called Sears. They had them in stock. We never got a new one. The condo is not air-conditioned. To keep cool at night, we slept with windows open. The city is very noisy and it made it very difficult to sleep. Every morning at 5, we were awoken by the pleasant tropical sounds of jack hammering. Ah, Paradise. The furnishings need new upholstery and padding. A person sitting on the sofa would gradually sink. It's like riding a slow elevator to hell, but with a better view. Speaking of views, the view from the balcony is actually quite nice. But so is the view from Alcatraz. Bed time. For perspective, we toured the USS Missouri on a previous trip and saw how the sailors used to sleep back then. For my next visit to Honolulu, I'm considering upgrading to the bunkroom on the Missouri. I'd definitely get a cleaner and more comfortable mattress there. Probably newer too. The unit has a $195 cleaning fee. What they spend that money on, I don't know. For $195 I expect the unit to be very clean, if not spotless. Instead I got somewhere between Turkish prison and mild apocalypse. The moldings and doors throughout are filthy, covered with the grime of past guests. And judging from the gouges, past guests likely included the Walking Dead and Wookies. The tile in the shower in the bathroom did not appear to have been cleaned with anything more powerful than a sidelong glance. The tile was covered in soap scum in long drippy streaks. At least I hope it was soap scum. The tub was possibly white, once. The floors have not been scrubbed possibly since the days when King Kamehameha united the islands. I have a habit of walking barefoot. The soles of my feet ended up blacker than the soul whoever gave this place a five star review. All of the arms on the chairs are covered with a disgusting black filthy film. I contemplated notifying the CDC, but instead I went to Dukes and drowned my sorrows with an "Endless Summer". It’s an amazing drink. You should try one--or 19. For the cost of this condo you could order 19 drinks a day and sleep on the beach. You'd be happier and much more comfortable. Don’t waste your money here.

I'll start with the positive things. The view from the balcony is beautiful. The condo is an end unit which enhances the view. The unit is well laid out. The location is perfect. An easy and quick walk to Waikiki beach. New towels were provided. But.... 1) The floors, bathroom and sink seemed to have been cleaned. But the unit overall wasn't very clean. There was a significant layer of dust/dirt on the glass louvered windows in the bedrooms and all the window sills. The fan in the living room had a very thick layer of dirt. I had to clean it myself before I could use it. All but one pillow have yellow stains (even spare pillows are stained). The mattress cover also had two yellow stains. The area rug under the table is beyond filthy - brown stains as large as a plum. And despite roach/insect traps there were a few roaches, which is not the host's fault. 2) The unit is extremely dated - dents in one bedroom wall, paint peeling from another wall, curtains that are not hung properly. Patio chairs that are broken. Non-stick pans which are scratched and peeling. I would have appreciated a mop. 3) The washing machine leaked all over the floor as a previous guest described. I was aware of this potential problem (because of previous reviewer) and I even spoke with an AirBnB representative before I arrived, who didn't seem to do much to resolve the issue. I first dialed the number Suzanne told me was always answered. Not true. Then I sent an email. No response. I called AirBnB and spoke with Leigh, who offered to contact the host. Then I called back and spoke with a representative of Hawaii Paradise Rental who arranged for a handy man to examine the machine. When I returned a note reading "Do not use washing machine" was left. That's it. No response from Suzanne or AirBnB. I had to call Hawaii Paradise again to learn that a Sears repair would come two days later to attempt to repair the machine. In the end the machine was never fixed, I couldn't use it and I have yet to hear from the hostess or anyone from Hawaii Paradise Rentals. 4) Suzanne was good at responding to questions before my arrival but once there nothing. Not an email. I sent her a message on the day of my arrival and as I write this review (13 days later) no response. I wouldn't stay at 2121 Ala Wai again nor would I recommend it to my friends.

My experience with the managing staff at 2121 Ala Wai was wholly negative. It was next to impossible to get in contact with anyone regarding the issues we had with the unit. The apartment was not clean when we arrived (condom wrapper on the floor and human hair on the pillows) and the internet did not work. We could not get in contact with the property manager for more than two days after repeatedly calling and sending messages through AirBnB. I eventually had to visit their offices to get an internet hotspot so we could prepare our talks for the conference we were attending. The manager (Marla) also never sent someone to reclean the unit and replace all the dead light bulbs like I asked. The washer also leaked all over the floor and Marla expected us to stay in the unit and meet with the plumber that she called. She would not send someone else to meet with the plumber. When we called her after an hour of waiting to ask where the plumber was, she told us that he was no longer coming. This was blatantly disrespectful to us and to our time. Marla consistently attempted to dismiss our problems as inconsequential and seemed to look for solutions that would inconvenience her the least and us the most. She would either respond to questions days later or ignore them entirely. I was extremely dissatisfied with the management of this property and would never stay here again.

2121 Ala Wai worked out great for us! There were 3 of us, so the 3 beds, 2 bedrooms was perfect. We wanted to explore the island, so the secure, garage parking was key. The 24th floor balcony overlooked the canal, and we were a short 15 min walk to the beach. I had concerns we would regret no a/c, but it was not a factor; not needed. Kitchen and living room came in handy. All in all, a good experience.
