I will greet you on arrival and leave you to it. Then return on departure. That said I won't be far and am only a phone call or text away should you need anything.

Only 500 metres to Sydney CBD and right in the midst of Surry Hills, one of Australia's leading inner-city villages; a melting pot of interesting people who respect each other's individuality and enjoy an enriching social, and creative scene. Sydney's bustling dining and entertainment hub is also dotted with parks and is a haven for native birds like sulphur-crested cockatoos, rosellas and the odd kookaburra. My street features a gum-treed park almost opposite home. Within one minute is the larger Harmony Park, where dog owners, picnickers and sunbakers congregate. A yum cha food truck serves dim sum there every Thursday night. Oxford Street nightclubs and music venues are five minutes away. Fine dining and cafes are within minutes. The retro Golden Age Cinema in the Paramount Studios building is just five minutes way. The Estonian Club's band and film nights, market stalls and dances are just 2 minutes away. Hyde Park five minutes. Two 50m swimming pool complexes both within ten minutes, as is Chinatown. Supermarket and gourmet providores just 5 minutes away. An endless array of entertainment options + maximum convenience are just a stroll away.

Central Railway, which can take you to pretty much anywhere in the country, is an easy ten minutes' walk away. Various bus routes to Bondi Beach, Circular Quay, the Opera House, Harbour Bridge etc. are all a five minute walk. Sydney International and Domestic Airports are 25 minutes in a cab or accessible from Central Railway. Ferries from Darling Harbour are a 15 min walk and from Circular Quay a 30 min walk (or ten min bus ride from Oxford Street). If you're a skater feel free to take the Devo deck for a skate around the neighbourhood. Needless to say NYs Eve gets pretty crazy. Taxis are at a premium. However you can walk everywhere.

The neighbours are great but it's an urban environment and it's pretty cosy. Please respect them (noise travels!) as they will do for you. Thank you.

Our stay in Surry Hills was incredible from start to finish. Lucia was there to greet us and go through everything that we could possibly need to know about the house plus providing us with an excellent written guide as well. Lucia left us with a bottle of fizz, some milk and bread and some other little treats which made us feel right at home. The house was in an amazing location, close to every restaurant and nightlife frivolity you could hope for. We used uber to get around and it was never a problem getting a cab within a few minutes. The house was exactly as it looks in the pictures - the bathrooms are great, beds good and everything very clean and tidy. The house is made for living in immediately and that couch, oh that couch is perfect for lazing around on after a hard day of sight-seeing, eating and drinking. The outdoor deck is absolute heaven for a bit of early morning coffee and reading, mid afternoon sunbathing or early evening drinks. If we ever needed and insider opinion on a restaurant, cafe or anything else Lucia was there at the end of the phone within a few minutes, with an answer or other suggestion - amazing. Lucia is a superhost and she deserves to be one - everything was incredible, Lucia was incredible and we would come back to this place in a heartbeat if our employers let us. Book it - you won't be disappointed.

Lucia was fantastic. She moved around her schedule to make time for us, made sure we had a place to stay and did everything in her power to help us have a great Sydney experience. She has a comprehensive book with all the information you might need, but took care to meet us and make sure we felt comfortable in the space and knew where the basics were. Her place is beautiful, comfortable and it felt like home away from home. Lucia, thank you for hosting us!

Thank you Nibha. It was an absolute pleasure having you and Garen to stay. As you came to understand unfortunately Sydney's 'natural wonders' include roaches when the heat is on. My pest control guy euphemistically refers to the ones that lob on occasion at my place as 'nomads', in spite of three-monthly efforts on his part to keep them at bay. The manual covers the issue but you are right in pointing out I hadn't referenced it in my profile. I'll remedy that so many thanks for the suggestion. Cheers Lucia

We stayed at Lucia's place for New Year's week, and had a wonderful experience. The apartment is a convenient walking distance to stores, restaurants, nightlife, and public transportation to all points. It's well laid out and feels airy and spacious, especially if you're used to urban apartments in Boston, New York, or San Francisco. We spent lots of time on the roof deck, which opens off the master bedroom. The whole place is tastefully decorated in an up-to-date way, with a few whimsical little touches — such as a Devo skateboard on the wall and a Space Invaders throw pillow on a bed — that make it feel like a hip friend's home rather than a stranger's apartment. As for Lucia, she's a generous, attentive, and flexible host, with lots of great recommendations about where to go and what to do in Sydney. We were happy to have booked with her.

I'm an experienced marketing professional and traveller who loves the pulse of Sydney and has chosen to live on the fringes of the central business district in a creative village of like-minded people who enjoy both the good things in life and 'keeping it real'.

Sydney has been home since the stork dropped me in, so I'm plugged into all it has to offer; from the big ticket events to some of its best kept little secrets.

I think staying in someone's home, as was the case when I was in Iceland a year or so ago, can make a world of difference. You truly get under the skin of the city, you feel more like an adventurer than a tourist and you get all the benefits of knowing someone local, the sum of which makes for far more enriching travel.

Why do I host? Because sharing the things I love about Sydney is rewarding in its own right, but the bonus is that my AirBNB guests have all been smart, responsible, friendly and respectful people.

The saying goes that if you stand in Times Square long enough, everyone in the world will come to YOU. Which kind of reminds me of being an AirBNB host because the world is now regularly making itself right at home under my roof.

What's not to like?
