Selkirk, Manitoba, Canada

The Hook & Tassel sits on a historic acre called Colcleugh House, which was built in the 1870s by one of earliest Scottish settlers and one of the first mayors of Selkirk, F.W. Colcleugh. His second wife Emma Shaw was an American travel journalist and used this property as her base camp to travel — in her 1800s ground-length skirts — over thousands of miles from here to the subarctic. Back then Emma would have been the first white woman to travel by steamer and canoe through Canada's great north and was the first white women that First Nations communities would meet. She shared her adventures in syndicated columns that ran in US newspapers during the 1800s. Get to know this adventure seeker better when you stay at the Hook & Tassel.

We’ve learned over the years that when you own a historic property you are the stewards of the property. And for us that means sharing the space and inviting others in to enjoy it. We always hope every guest feels that timelessness, comfort and joy of disconnecting in an 1800s carriage house in a park like setting. Welcome.
