Explore the private-access lake that features an almost entirely unspoiled waterfront -- just 5 other cottages share the lake, giving it the feel of a private wilderness. All this, and yet you are just 10 minutes drive from the nearest town of Coe Hill where you will find a grocery, LCBO & some wonderful restaurants; and only a 2.5 hour drive from the GTA & Ottawa (traffic permitting of course).

Le logement
COVID-19 UPDATE: To ensure the safest experience for our guests, we have implemented some enhancements to our already high standard of cleaning, and will be following the new AirBNB cleaning & disinfecting policy which was developed with expert guidance. Here are a few highlights:

We sanitize high-touch surfaces, down to the doorknob
We use cleaners and disinfectants approved by global health agencies, and I wear protective gear to help prevent cross-contamination
We clean each room using extensive cleaning checklists
We provide extra cleaning supplies, so you can clean as you stay
We comply with local laws, including any additional safety or cleaning guidelines

THE LODGE
Crafted from native softwood logs , Heartwood Lodge offers a true Canadiana experience while featuring all the modern comforts. The Lodge features air conditioning in the summer and heat in the winter for your comfort, and there is plenty of room at the Heartwood Lodge for large families or groups of friends to spend quality time together. A stone fireplace adds ambiance in the living room (firewood provided Sept-May), or cuddle up in the family room with a movie on the big-screen TV (DVD player & a selection of family-friendly DVD's provided).

A fully functional kitchen including fridge, stove, microwave & dishwasher (and drinkable tap water thanks to our deep well & filtration system), propane BBQ and a large Muskoka room (screen porch) allows you to enjoy your morning coffee and meals outdoors without leaving the house. The Lodge also has 2 full bathrooms, and 4 cozy yet spacious bedrooms, each one made up for your comfort including all bed linens and electric fans for warm nights. We provide bed linens & hand towels, but we do ask that guests bring their own bath & swimming towels.

If you are travelling with an infant or toddler, please let us know and we can provide a high chair & baby bath basin.

Bedroom #1: Queen Bed – Sleeps 2
Bedroom #2: Queen Bed – Sleeps 2
Bedroom #3: Queen Bed – Sleeps 2
Bedroom #4: Two Twin Beds – Sleep 2
Family Room: Sofa Bed – Sleeps 2

Please note: the Lodge has stairs up to the main level as well as stairs to the second floor where all bedrooms are located. This home may not be suitable for those with mobility issues.

THE LAKE
The Heartwood Lodge is on a quiet, private-access lake 20 minutes south of Bancroft. A limestone base contributes to the clear water quality of this lake, and to preserve the beauty and peacefulness of the area, no motorized watercraft are permitted.

The lake is your domain. A short path & some steps will take you from the house to the private dock with just a short walk. The water is deep right off the dock, great for launching a kayak or canoe (2 kayaks / 1 canoe available), taking a refreshing dip in the lake or enjoying sunset views across the lake.

Please note: lake access is down a moderate hill featuring 2 sets of steps & a path. This may not be suitable for those with mobility issues.

THE WOODS & WETLANDS
There are kilometres of hiking trails throughout the property. A quick walk down the trail will take you to the wetlands. Tread lightly to see waterfowl, beavers, turtles, and frogs to name a few. We request that you leave this area as you found it, the forest & wetlands are an important part of our ecosystem and is home to many animals.

The main trail will take you all the way to HWY 620. The terrain is gently sloped, and the trail is wide. You’ll find plenty of pines, spruces, cedars, birches, oaks, maples, and beech trees along the way. Explore to your heart’s content.

The Heartwood Lodge is ATV & Snowmobile friendly, and is located near many popular trails including the Hastings Heritage Trail. Please note that no indoor storage areas are available for your vehicles if you chose to bring them, however you can access trails directly from the house via the trail to the main road.

An outdoor firepit is available for use outside the cabin. Please bring your own camp firewood, which can be purchased from the nearby Trudy's Gas & Convenience, and obey posted regulations regarding fire bans (posted on the road in).

LODGE RULES
All bed linens provided, but we ask that you bring your own towels.

Safety first! Bring your own children's lifejackets if you plan to enjoy our watercraft with the kiddies.

No glass bottles or glasses are permitted outdoors, please use cans or the plastic cups provided if you want to enjoy an outdoor beverage.

Firewood is provided for the fireplace in the house from September through May. Please never use outdoor firewood in the house as this can damage the chimney. The wood inside the woodshed is not available to guests. Please do not reach inside the structure to take our firewood.

If you would like to enjoy the outdoor firepit, please bring your own firewood, which can be purchased from the nearby Trudy's Gas & Convenience store on Highway 62. Please obey posted notices regarding fire-bans & time of day burn limits. These can be found posted prominently on a sign on your drive into the Lodge. Typically in the summer outdoor fires are only permitted after 7pm.

Keep in mind, that although we do our best to ensure your stay is clean and comfortable, bugs are inevitable out in the country. Don’t forget your bug spray!

Guests have full access to the house with the exception of the basement, upstairs linen closet, woodshed & garage

Accès des voyageurs
Entire home & acreage except the basement, garage & one indoor closet. Owners may be on the acreage, but never in the immediate vicinity of the cottage and main dock.

Autres points à prendre en note
While we do have WIFI, it is not the highest speed & we ask that guests keep their usage to a minimum. Please refrain from streaming videos on Netflix, YouTube, etc. We have plenty of DVDs for all ages to enjoy. But please feel free to go ahead and check your email and social media posts!

There is enough parking for 6 vehicles.

Seasonal Summer items like the BBQ, outdoor seating, canoe and kayaks are available from May to October. Seasonal Winter items such as snowshoes and indoor firewood are provided from November to April.

I'm a Toronto-born nature lover who decided to make the jump to full time country living in 2019, when I moved to Coe Hill full time. My partner & I run the Heartwood Lodge, a beautiful cottage rental in the Ontario Highlands near Bancroft. We love maintaining & upgrading the property & nothing makes us happier than when guests come & enjoy all the Lodge has to offer! Follow us on IG @heartwoodlodge if you want to enjoy our DIY projects (many of which can also be enjoyed at the Lodge) like building our own chairs, wood shed & more!
