Le logement
We completed converting our barn into a warm, spacious and contemporary space, with luxury touches, in early 2019. We have retained original features from when the barn was used as a grain store, which are sure to make for a memorable stay.

My family used the barn as a central grain storage point when they farmed the surrounding fields for several generations. Today, the original sand stone building has been converted in to two properties, both of which remain in the family. The Barn is accessed through the old farm yard, the farmhouse of which my parents still live in. They can help you with any questions about the local area!

The kitchen is fitted with two Neff ovens, a hob and a wine cooler and you are highly recommended to cook meals to enjoy by candle light at the dining table in the triple height hall. If you would like us to stock the fridge in advance of your arrival, we are very happy to do so if you send a shopping list no later than 24hrs in advance. We charge just £10 to do this for you. Alternatively, Booths is the nearest local supermarket (well worth a look, both for groceries and for the cafe - there are images and text there from when the area was a WWII airbase) or Ocado can deliver to the door.

Original features that remain include the original stone from the main entrance, converted into a hearth for the log burner, and quirky ventilation shafts which we have glazed - there are 8 of these in just Bedroom 2, so we provide eye masks for that room in particular!

We paid extra attention to the little touches that make a difference - there is an extra large bath in the main bathroom, perfect for a relaxing soak after a long day. One of the more unusual contemporary touches is the open plan en suite in the old hay loft bedroom - this is quite the talking point for guests!

For warmer days, there is small walled garden space to the back of the property, from which you have uninterrupted views down to the Leeds to Liverpool canal and beyond. You can walk to several lovely local pubs via the canal and there are many local attractions that you can reach by car.

My family and I love dogs and welcome well behaved dogs to the property. Please note, it is a rural area and my neighbours all have dogs, so please keep yours under control at all times.

As this is a conversion where we have tried to remain sympathetic to the original context, it is different from a 'normal' home. One thing that you might notice is that, due to the triple height hall and relatively open plan nature of the space, noise travels - so this space is definitely better for those who have similar sleeping patterns!

You will see from the pictures that there is a lot of glass, stairs that are not boxed in away from the triple height hall and no carpets. We love the look, but we encourage all our guests, and especially those with young children, to be very careful on the staircases and there should definitely be no running. We don't want you to have any accidents!

Finally - absolutely no shoes past the hallway. The ash staircases, and the reclaimed oak floors on the second and third levels, would be damaged beyond repair especially by high heels. In the same vein, please wipe up any spills in these areas as soon as possible.

A lot of love went in to creating this home: we hope you can enjoy it and also help us to keep it in great condition!

Peace and solitude is what the barn will bring you. Enjoy watching the birds that nest around the building and frequent the bird feeders, and take some time out from your busy schedule to walk the beautiful local canal paths.

That said, we are a 10 minute drive from Ormskirk, a historic market town and from which there are frequent trains to Aintree and Liverpool. Don't neglect to stop at Booths on the way, a local favourite where you can pick up high quality, locally sourced groceries. Moorhall is a Michelin starred restaurant in the area - do make reservations in advance. Southport is a 15 minute drive away and there are a wealth of internationally renowned golf courses in the area as well as plenty of shopping and Victorian sea front activities.

Martin Mere is just down the road and is a great place to spot local wildlife. Further afield you can reach Blackpool with its beaches, the Pleasure Beach fair ground and the Sandcastle Waterpark - the UK's largest indoor water park! And finally, for a long day trip you can use the barn as a base to access the beautiful Lake District National Park.

Originally from West Lancashire and based in London, my husband and I are avid Airbnb users and have used the site to find amazing vacation locations across the world. I am very proud to have recently completed converting the dilapidated, unique sand stone barn that I grew up next to into a warm and welcoming family home, that I can now share with the Air BnB community! I am really excited to be hosting guests at the barn and I look forward to getting to know lots of you in the community! I aim for all my guests to have a wonderful stay in the barn and it always makes me so happy to see people leave with a smile on their face! My life motto is Fac si Facis - do it, if you're going to do it - and to be able to do that, you need to make space for some slow living in order to decide just what it is that you want to do. I hope the barn gives you the space to do that!
