Inner tranquility, East Capitol Hill Convenience + Urbanity. This 2 bedroom house with expansive urban yard is perfect for those looking to stay in their own house. Exploring the city is a cinch from this well-located oasis - 19 blocks to the Capitol and a stone's throw from the metro and buses.
Welcome to this art-filled urban sanctuary located on a city avenue, a couple of blocks from the blue, orange and silver lines metro and easily accessible by major thoroughfares and highways. We are close to public transportation in addition to the metrorail – bus stop across the street, bike share within 6 blocks, as well as easy on-street parking and gated driveway.
I live and work on premises; this rental is for the main house. I may be occupying and/or working in the basement, which has a separate entrance from the main house; if that is the case, I'll do my best to stay out of your way -- unless you need me of course! Please see my other listing, Metropolitan Oasis, for my single room rental. This rental gives you full access to the garden and outdoor space as well as the main floor living area (living room, dining room and kitchen) and the second floor where the bedrooms and bath are. The house has one bathroom – and it’s a beaut! Walk-in shower and deep soaking tub with marble-lined walls. There is a second sleeping area that is open concept, closed at night by graceful drapes – an idea that I first became familiar with at Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello. The master bedroom is large with its own sitting area and an overall zen-like quality. A separate open sitting area/study divides the master bedroom and the second sleeping area and bathroom. Help yourself to any of the books in the study - there’s quite a range of subjects! You are welcome to fix yourself a meal in the kitchen – two excellent grocery stores are 5 blocks away – and a number of delivery or carry-out options from local restaurants. Original art and specialty finishes throughout the home – yours to enjoy; this does mean, however, that this rental is more suitable to the mature visitor and not really appropriate for wild reveling or children under 12. I know, boo.
Our little corner of the city is 10 blocks from the Barracks Row (home of 2 Michelin-starred restaurants) and Eastern Market restaurants and shops, about 15 blocks from the popular H Street corridor and 19 blocks from the US Capitol. The river is within walking or biking distance and connects to a waterfront trail – which takes you to the Navy Yard, Nationals Ballpark and all of those wonderful new restaurants and parks, not to mention river views. Farther down this trail is the SW Waterfront as well as the Jefferson Memorial, Washington Monument, WWII Memorial, MLK Memorial, and the rest of the monumental core. The Mall, Capitol, and main tourist sites can also be directly reached via bike lanes on the neighborhood road system as well, or by bus, metro, cabs and Uber. Or you could choose to hang out on the terrace or read a book in the garden - if we have a bit of a warm spell -- there is an outdoor heater.

Since this is for the main house, you will have this home to yourself. I may be working or otherwise occupying the basement but it has a separate entrance so hopefully you won't hear a peep out of me! The yard and gardens are shared and you may see me puttering about or mowing the lawn from time to time.
Although lovingly renovated over many years, this is still an old house with a few quirks and with lots of stairs. The home, yard and garden is mostly pesticide-free and uses organic and natural remedies and products. As is typical of most city rowhomes, this one has stairs inside as well as outside.
No smoking, drugs, etc. - in other words, please act with respect and behave responsibly which includes cleaning up after yourself and taking care of wood/stone/specialty finishes.
Pets may be welcome - please discuss with me first. Unfortunately I am not compatible with unscheduled overnight visitors or house parties, so please talk to me ahead of time before inviting any guests over so we can determine if I'm OK with this.
I can't believe I have to say this, but no firearms of any sort in this home please unless you are an officer of the law and are required to have a firearm.
The descriptions of the listing are thorough and shall be read.
All parties staying here shall abide by the rules and stated descriptions.

Recovering design architect, full time artist, gardener, cyclist, and just general lover of the outdoors and DC. I'm a bit of an introvert and tend to be rather quiet (unless I'm in the studio with tunes blasting which I'll be mindful of when you are here). I've lived here for many years and absolutely love DC -- I'll happily help you figure out where to go, what to do if you'd like. I'm an early riser and it takes me a while to figure out if I'm alive or not, so I'll probably put some coffee on for you and find a quiet place to get the day underway (naturally if you have chosen my whole house rental you'll be on your own for coffee-making!! and presumably you won't hear a peep from me if/when I'm in the basement)
