The Gin Palace is holiday accommodation set in rolling countryside on the North Wales / Shropshire border. It enjoys magnificent views across the valley towards England with heated swimming pool, open June - August, shared with the other holiday properties on the farm. A cosy log burner warms the main living area, which also benefits from oil filled electric radiators. There is a wet room with shower and a bedroom with an antique double bed. Outside there is parking and secure bike storage.

Le logement
The Gin Palace has recently been completely refurbished and is a unique structure set in a wonderful rural landscape. The double bedroom has a comfortable antique brass bed lit by wall and ceiling mounted chandeliers and has a magnificent 19th century fireplace and overmantle. The main living and kitchen area consists of two rooms, warmed by a cozy woodburner. Through a lovely antique stained glass door is a decked area with bar b que and seating which overlooks the view down to the stream marking the English border.
The accommodation is ideal for couples seeking a unique romantic getaway.

Accès des voyageurs
Guests have exclusive use of the whole property and access to the three acres of grounds and the swimming pool, heated June to August, which are shared with guests staying on the farm. A network of mown footpaths meander through the grounds and guests can walk out onto the quiet lane to access a network of footpaths into the surrounding countryside.

Autres points à prendre en note
Guests visiting for the first time should read the directions carefully as the property is not in the centre of the postcode and a satnav will guide you to a different road about half a mile away.
Further guests are not permitted except by arrangement in order to preserve the privacy and seclusion of the location, which is one of its main attractions.
The Gin Palace is equipped with toaster, microwave, kettle and a small electric oven, together with Pyrex dishes etc. There is no electric hob and no pans (you are, after all, on holiday).
There is a coin meter for electricity which takes £1 and £2 coins. The Gin Palace is very economical and doesn’t draw much power, particularly if the wood burner is used for heating.

Emplacement

Overton, Pays de Galles, Royaume-Uni

Set in glorious rural countryside overlooking the Welsh border, the Gin Palace is just one mile from the village of Overton on Dee with its pub, shops, famous ancient yew trees and medieval church. The river Dee is also one mile away, the Llangollen canal is some three miles away and there are numerous riverside and canalside pubs nearby. The pretty town of Ellesmere is four miles away with its quaint half timbered buildings, seven pubs, mere (lake) and parks with woodland walks. By the Mere is a wonderful tea shop serving meals and light snacks.
The Gin Palace is on a quiet country lane which leads to a network of local footpaths, bridlepaths and quiet roads. It’s possible to walk or cycle for miles without having to use main roads. The quiet hamlet of Duddleston, with its ancient church (with an unusual hexagonal tower) lies just a couple of miles away and there are several circular walking routes taking in the river Dee, local pubs and nearby villages. There are maps in the Gin Palace detailing the local area.
Overton on Dee is a historic village, with churchyard yew trees reputed to be nearly 2000 years old. It has a number of shops and farm produce is available together with meat from a traditional local butcher. Ellesmere is the nearest larger village, with a large Tesco and two lovely delicatessens as well as many smaller shops. Its wonderful lakeside tea shop is complemented by seasonal availability of rowing boats. Llangollen is about 8 miles away and Oswestry ten miles. Chester and Shrewsbury are both about 22 miles distant, along very good roads, so the journey time is just half an hour. For National Trust members Chirk Castle, Erddig Country House and the magnificent Powis Castle and Gardens are all within easy reach. Hawkstone Follies is nearby, an 18th century garden filled with enchanting grottos, caves and passages as well as other memorials and a massive stone column up which guests may climb. The Llangollen canal network is accessible either at Ellesmere or at nearby Trevor, where for a modest day charge guests can hire boats to explore the two impressive Telford aquaducts and the Chirk tunnel. A network of footpaths and backlanes are accessible right from the door of the Gin Palace, making it ideal for those seeking a relaxing rural break without the need to use a car. One of the lovely five mile or so walks nearby takes guests along the River Dee, has a halfway point at the village pub, perhaps for a Sunday Carvery Lunch, and returns via a loop right to the door of the Gin Palace.
