Not worth the money. To start, I would like to tell you that "el cuyo" it's indeed a beautiful place. Endless beaches and a very peaceful area. But this house and his owner disappointed me very much. From the first message I sent to Matt I asked if the property was located at holbox (my original destination), and even when the house it's in el cuyo he withdraw the money of the first night leaving me not option but go there or lose the money. Not friendly at all the following messages just answering with one word texts and no further info. About the house; very old not maintenance done. Showers doesn't work very well, we found a scorpion in the master bedroom the very first night we arrived. The mosquitos are everywhere and there is no way to keep them out. The kitchen smells old and has very few culinary items. The beds are the worst! All very smelly old and not comfortable at all. Good thing of the house would be an amazing ocean view, but it's not worth the high price they charge. Staying in the town I was able to see some properties very well maintained for half of the price . Very disappointed experience starting from the owner... :(

Unfortunately Villa Saskal and our host Mat Torrens did not meet our expectations. The description on the Airbnb website led is to believe that we had booked a fully equipped and comfortable accommodation. Unfortunately, Villa Saskal feels neglected and badly in need of simple maintenance and updating. The website description describes the kitchen as “... the heart of the house, fully equipped to meet all needs and culinary tests, even the most demanding couple of the chefs” In reality, there were no pots with lids; no sharp knives; no working plug for the sink; only a stained plastic cutting board; and we had to clean accumulated corrosion out of the flame spreaders on the propane stove to produce an even flame. The dispenser for drinking water leaked all over the counter. In the bathrooms, the hot water took several minutes to reach the shower heads and then just a dribble; we had to clean the shower heads so the shower would function adequately; and we had to clean accumulated sludge out of the shower drain to unplug it; there was frequently a sewage smell coming from the toilets; and there was only one towel per person provided for a two-week stay. The only lights in the small bedroom were harsh bare bulbs on the ceiling and there was no bedside table. Door and window screens around the house have holes or do not close properly allowing mosquitoes in. The only broom in the house was broken, and there was no TV in the house although the Airbnb site clearly shows one. We were very pleased with Sara and Gabriel, who opened the house for us in Mat’s absence when we arrived. They found us towels and a pot with a lid. They also helped to acquaint us with the town and were always available and truly welcoming to us. Mat, our Airbnb host, however seemed helpful only as a way to stop our complaining. He found us some of the missing essentials after several days (a new pot, a working broom, a toaster, a sink drain) and arranged a cleaning service half way through our stay. But he was not welcoming and failed to drop by to see us, other than our first meeting to discuss our concerns, even when he stayed next door for three days later in our vacation. Overall, we were quite disappointed in Mat and Villa Saskal especially in light of the significant amount of money we paid to rent the house ($4,385 Canadian for two weeks). As host we expected that Mat would be more welcoming and would routinely carry out regular inspections of the house and ensure that small maintenance items and household furnishings and equipment deficiencies would be dealt with promptly before our arrival. We would highly recommend staying in El Cuyo for a quiet and fulfilling experience of rural Mexico and beautiful endless beaches. But we would not recommend staying at Villa Saskal.
