I took my fiancée here for her birthday weekend--we fell in love the moment we arrived! From the charming decor of the inn, to petting the La Mancha goats and playing with their farm puppy Opal, Lisa and Bob created the perfect retreat 2 hours away from the bustle of DC. The cozy Sidney Room provided us with the perfect weekend stay (bath tub with bubble bath included!) Each morning, we were woken by the smells of bacon and eggs sourced from their farm--my personal breakfast favorites are the sausage and morning granola. Loved the community table where all of the Inn residents comingled, while Lisa and Bob delved into the history of how the Inn at Abbott Farm came to be. Needless to say, my fiancée and I were made to feel at home every second of the weekend. When we were unable to make a reservation for dinner on Friday night because we had no cell service (which was a blessing throughout), Lisa was able to call and get one for us at a reasonable time. When it came to hiking in the Lost River state park (a must), Bob provided us with a map and his recs for where we can find the best fall foliage. Overall, we definitely plan to return with a few of our friends---don't sleep on the best kept secret nestled in the Lost River! You'll thank yourself for it!

Lisa and Bob were absolutely wonderful, and their home was equally lovely. They are definitely part of the reason we had such a great stay. The (their) farm-to-table breakfast was such a treat - honestly some of the best bacon I've ever had. The room is sweet, bed comfortable, and the bathtub was the icing on the top. We did a two-hour trail ride at Hidden Trail Stables, located within Lost River State Park (10 minute drive), which we would highly recommend. We also went swimming at Trout Pond and hung out on the "beach" for a couple of hours. Would definitely (and hope to) stay here again.

This is truly an adorable inn, and Lisa & Bob were more than welcoming. My boyfriend and I decided to venture out of DC for New Year's (also our anniversary), and the Inn was just over 2 hours drive. Lisa's directions were CRUCIAL just after you reach Strasburg - there's zero cell or data reception beyond that. Once we arrived, we were greeted with snacks, wine, and their sweet puppy Opal. Lisa made an amazing dinner for us and the other guests, using ingredients sourced right from the farm. Same for the full breakfast the next morning. Overall, our stay was just perfect - our room (the Sidney) was super comfortable, with a queen bed, huge soaking tub, and almost no noise from the outside. We're very much looking forward to staying again in the future!

My stay at Abbott Farm was wonderful, and I will definitely be staying here again. Lisa and her family were warm, welcoming, and a joy to be around. I had my dog with me, and they were incredibly accommodating (and their 4 month old puppy was the perfect playmate for my dog!). Great food, amazing people, beautiful home. Would absolutely recommend.

Bob and Lisa were wonderful hosts. I am 8 months pregnant and mistakenly arrived one full day early on Labor Day weekend! Obviously we caught them off guard, but they graciously took us to our room and showed us around the place without any hesitation. Our room was beautifully decorated and the bed was very comfortable. We had our two little dachshunds with us and Bob and Lisa even took care of them when we went out for dinner on both nights. Lisa's cooking is amazing! The homemade granola, bacon, sausage, fruit, jam, and eggs (all from the farm) was absolutely delicious - we ate so much that we skipped lunch on both days. We even took a little granola on a hike and got to bring home some fresh veggies with us. I would highly recommend a relaxing weekend here, its definitely in the country - but with the perks of the good life. The hiking nearby is nice, but as I was preggers, we didn't get to explore very far. Our first night we had dinner nearby at a very country-style place (Lost River Grill) and the next night drove further away (about 25 mins from the Inn) to a really good brewery/restaurant - Lost River Brewing company. On our drive back to DC, we stopped by the GW National Forest and there was a really nice 4 mile hike called Big Schloss trail . I would recommend that if you are looking for a nice view and its on the way back to DC!

We loved staying at this adorable inn and Lisa and Bob were really welcoming and warm. The beautiful house was just as pictured except if you can imagine the delectable smell of banana bread and coffee that Lisa served us the minute we entered. We also enjoyed great conversation with both of them. Our hosts gave us direction the state park just 4 miles away with some great trails and hiking. The farm fresh breakfast was also phenomenal and really the highlight of the trip. In addition, it was Valentine's day weekend and Lisa most thoughtfully prepared a tray of chocolate covered strawberries and a cheese platter and a bottle of champagne for us! There is not much to do in the community of Mathias, but if you are looking for a quiet, nature filled weekend disconnected from your phone-this is perfect! All to say, we will be back and tell our friends!

With my soon-to-be-husband Bob Osterhoudt I can be all things I want to be. In addition to the farm & Inn, I am also a Nationally registered Paramedic working full-time for Hardy County. Bob has done all the restoration of the house and is the ultimate handyman; there is nothing he can't do. I also am an artist, a mother to 2 grown girls and a loyal friend to many.
