Whether you're visiting Tahoe to ski, hike, or hang out, the place my grandparents built should work. Our cabin is located close to Meeks Bay trailhead, beach, and awesome West Shore backcountry ski terrain. Newly updated bathroom, wood flooring throughout, and now Wifi for your convenience.
New Covid rules require that we streamline kitchen cleaning procedures. All dishes, cups, glasses and flatware will be clean in the dishwasher and left untouched for you to unload and use.

Le logement
This is a small, clean comfortable home built by my grandparents in the 50's. Two small bedrooms and one bathroom. Updated and managed by us for the past 30 years, we've received many compliments over the years about how quiet, easy and cozy it is. Nothing fancy, but all the essential amenities are there. The fireplace is fully functional, but we discourage fires. Air quality in the Tahoe Basin has suffered in recent years because of wood fires, and a fireplace is not an efficient means of heating the house. We have a gas floor furnace and five space heaters for this small house. If you must have a fire, you will need to supply your own wood. No TV cable. Limited television reception, but lots of DVD's and books. Feel free to keep any book you start and cannot finish before you depart.

In winter, plow service comes only once per day, usually before noon. Late arrivals may encounter snow accumulation in storm situations.

Accès des voyageurs
Go for it! The kitchen has been streamlined for Covid cleanliness, with a limited pots, pans and appliances and place settings for 8. Many basics like flour, sugar, oil and spices are stocked available to you. We will leave washed dishes clean and untouched in the dishwasher. Please leave your rinsed but unwashed plates, glasses and utensils in the dishwasher upon departure so we can wash them all for the next guest.

You must empty the refrigerator and freezer of anything that you brought. Do not leave food or beverages for housekeeping or next guests.

The driveway will be plowed the morning of your arrival, assuming that the County roads are plowed, and will be plowed each day that 6 inches or more falls. Please park far right, away from the house, and not under the trees, to avoid falling pine cones.
Wood Fires: The fireplace is fully functional, but is not an efficient heat source. Wood smoke is increasingly becoming a problem in the Tahoe Basin and building a clean, smoke free fire can be tricky. We discourage guests from building wood fires, but if you must have a fire, you will need to supply your own wood.

There is a thermostat operated gas floor furnace and multiple space heaters that are cleaner, safer and more environmentally friendly.

Pets: No pets, dogs or cats, large or small, even the perfect ones. Sorry. Allergies.

Autres points à prendre en note
A note about winter time use of the Cozy Meeks Bay Cottage: This house was built in the late 1950’s, at 6,250 feet elevation in the Sierra Nevada. During the winter, storms bring snow, road closures, floods, power outages, plow delays and other inconveniences. These conditions are unpredictable. We have no control over them. Our plow service comes once per day when it snows 6 inches or more. The plow operator typically comes between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m., but only after the County roads are plowed (by the big boys). During big, heavy snowfall storms snow will accumulate on our driveway after the plow. During extreme storms, snow accumulates on the County roads, and there are times when regular snow-rated tires, even with 4WD or AWD are insufficient to navigate heavy drifts, steeper slopes, etc. If you’re not able to handle these kinds of conditions, keep an eye on the forecast and road conditions and cancel the trip if necessary. You may be much better off writing off a night in the mountains, than spending 12 hours in your car getting there, and then having to struggle your way into a house where there is no electricity, lights, television or stove. Use good judgment.
The heater in our house does not require electricity. The hot water heater does require electricity, but we have a battery back-up which is good for a limited supply of hot water (and can be used for emergency phone charging, radios and low draw power like a light and a fan –NO HEATERS). We also have a portable back-up single burner stove for emergencies.
We do not have a garage, and some shoveling may be required to get into the house. Obviously, the more it has snowed recently, the more snow will accumulate, and the more a guest will have to shovel. Huge storms = lots of shoveling. The distance from the parking pad to the front door is less than 60 feet. We strongly recommend that you park on the right side of the parking pad, as far away from the house as possible, so as to be out from under trees that can drop ice laden pine-cone-bombs that can damage vehicles and windshields. In winter always enter house from the right (south) side and avoid roof avalanches.
During the storms of 2016/2017 Tahoe area roads were closed and we were without power for nearly a week.
Rental of our property during the winter is meant for folks who are looking for a “rustic” experience, and are willing and able to handle some winter conveniences during storm conditions. Our guests think of this as part of the fun and prepare appropriately for a full winter experience. Guests looking for an easy in, easy out, concierge-type stay should look elsewhere, perhaps a hotel in South Lake, Tahoe City, or Reno. Although we have a strict cancellation policy, we will refund one night’s stay for each day that both highway 50 and 80 are closed for more than 12 hours in a 24 hour period. We will not refund a stay based on a storm forecast or temporary closures.

Leave the house as you found it. Housekeeping will clean the bathroom and kitchen floor, vacuum, make the beds, wash the sheets and towels. You will need to wash your own dishes and remove your own garbage to the street locker.

In winter, enter the house along the path to the right of the house, staying away from the edge of the building. Create a path hugging the left side of the pole markers. A shovel is provided at the SW corner of the house (no snow loading there). More shovels in the laundry room. Please return the shovel to its location for use by the next guest.

In winter, the ceiling fan should run "up", pulling cooler air toward the ceiling, and forcing the warmer air down the walls and into the living space. You will need to reverse the flow, as the default blows down from the fan. Just press the top button on the wall mounted remote to reverse the spin.
