The Owl's Nest: A charming three bedroom century farm house on 5 acres, ten miles west of Madison. Perfect for larger gatherings. Perched atop a hillside overlooking a small valley offering gorgeous views, the picturesque grounds include a restored barn, gazebo and walking paths. This listing is for overnight guests for use of the house and property only; no events.
For house rental only (not for events): charming three bedroom house, sleeps ten; a few more possible with bring-your-own blow up beds (additional fees). Linens and towels are provided (for ten). One full bath upstairs, one half bath downstairs, one shower in the unfinished basement. Full chef’s kitchen with center cooking island. Kitchen can seat up to twelve diners. Washer and dryer in the basement.
No TV, yes wifi. There is a projector and large screen that can connect to computer for streaming. No daily maid service. House cleaning service once per week for ongoing group guests for a cleaning fee. Barn is not cleaned for guests nor is it winterized. However, guests are welcome to sweep and "play" in the barn, if desired. Airbnb rentals for this property are for house guests only; not for event or barn rentals. It is great for small (10) family gatherings, or for artists, writers and musicians as a retreat. It is also lovely for a small group spiritual gathering.

5.3 acre property that includes a 1.5 acre field towards the back of the property suitable for walking, the remainder of the property are woods. There is a shed and a barn on the property that can be explored. There is a barn cats that is not allowed in the house. It is close to great hiking, snow shoeing and cross country ski trails at Blue Mound Park, as well as downhill skiing at Tyrol Basin. Wisconsin Dells is a 45 minute drive, including Devil's Lake State Park. It is ten miles to west Madison; approximately a 25 minute drive to downtown Madison. There is a wonderful restaurant, The Hilltop Inn, walking distance (200 yards) from the house. There are two charming country bars in Pine Bluff two miles down the road. Cross Plains is a 2 mile drive and has several restaurant options and a large grocery store.

The owner lives ten miles away and is available to answer guest's questions by phone or text. Barn cat is cared for by caretaker. Well trained dogs are welcome in the house upon request; cats are not. Please clean your dog's "yard waste".

Leave shoes at front door.
Take a look around and see check the condition of the home interior. Leave it as it was when you arrived.
Summer: use air conditioner if desired. Close windows if air conditioner or heater are running. Air conditioner controls are on kitchen wall to right of desk. There is a portable window air conditioner for upstairs use.
Winter: there are 3 thermostats for heating, one for kitchen, one for main house (center original house), and one for room with red brick fireplace and master bedroom (green room).
Use washer and dryer in the basement. Leave washer cover open when not in use. WASHER ONLY WORKS ON COLD/COLD SETTING. Close dryer door when not in use.
Use second shower in basement. Note there is a shower curtain to close at the entryway at bottom of stairs. Shower water drains directly out the bottom of shower into floor drain.
Paper towels plus paper grocery bags for recycling bin are in cabinet to right of oven/microwave. Kitchen trash bags are under kitchen sink.
Trash and recycling bins are located to right of patio steps outside kitchen patio door.
Use dishwasher, soap is under the sink.
Scrape food from plates into trash; minimize food into the disposal (for healthy septic system.)
OK to use any spices, condiments, any items in refrigerator, slippers, etc., in the house.
Fill up bird feeders with seed marked in the aluminum can to right of patio stairs.
Summer: fly kites kept in foyer.
Winter: use snow shoes kept in foyer.
Outdoor fire place may be used; wood is kept in the shed. Please ensure proper extinguishing of the fire prior to leaving its proximity. Keep cover on to minimize flying embers.
OK to go into the barn, above and below. However, use of the barn is not technically part of the rental and therefore is not cleaned for guests. There is a bat colony that lives in the barn and a janitor's broom is available for sweeping. Close barn doors and turn off lights upon exit. Fill up cat bowl if empty (lower barn.)
Walk on the paths to the back of the property. DO NOT WALK ON NEIGHBOR'S PROPERTY. Property line is at bottom of neighbor's vineyard field on the S. side, the large pines at the back of the property, and through the woods on the N. side.
Summer: turn off air conditioners.
Winter: turn down heat to 65.
Make sure all doors are locked (sliding glass doors, two entry doors, patio door in kitchen, door in basement).
Keep blinds on the highway side of the house closed.
Lamp to the left side facing sofa is on a timer, make sure lamp is on and timer is correctly set.
Any used towels to be washed can be left on bathroom floor, or in laundry baskets in upstairs closets.
Any used bedding to be washed: keep beds unmade. Any made beds indicate they were not used and that sheets are clean.
Cat is not allowed in the house. Dogs are possible, with owner's prior approval.
Key should be placed in proper location as indicated by owner, if owner is not available at exit.
