Almuñécar area is a favorite area of mine, and I love spending time here. Cecilia is very nice and warm, and tries to accommodate however she can. Having said that, this was a frustrating visit, and was not comfortable for our month long stay. Although it was a letdown, the house is full of potential.
We had a series of issues when we arrived (no internet, bidet flooded, mildew in the master bedroom, still dirty from previous guests, and on and on), so I will stick to just the issues that will effect future guests.
First, the house is 500 meters further from the city than the "exact" address that is given by airbnb after you have paid for the booking. This was confusing and annoying when we arrived with all our luggage to the wrong place. The location otherwise is the best part of the house. Close to a great beach, easy to hike to La Herradura, and a couple tasty restaurants nearby.
The house itself is dingy and not well maintained. The master bedroom has mildew and although Cecilia had someone come, bleach the walls and they also painted over portions, we ended up sleeping in the small second bedroom. The shower and bathroom are desperate for a deep clean. We also had to bleach the washing machine to get the smells and mildew out of it. Our sheets smelled used and had body hair and lipstick on the pillow case, so we rewashed everything.
The kitchen has the basics, a small cutting board and really dull cutting knives. Eating out every day for a month isn't fun, and cooking there wasn't fun either. The oven does not work, and the refrigerator shelf fell out when I set a carton of milk on it. We had to wipe out and clean the refrigerator. It had old fish juice leaking in to the freezer portion. The dishes had food all over them. I realized the dish washer was clogged, so unclogged the sprayers, added dishwasher salt and it works fine now. We had to wash everything in the kitchen.
So many things in the house were broken, but just set back in place and disregarded. It made me angry not to have reliable accommodations for a whole month.
At night, with the windows open, there is street noise and also neighbors coming and going, with lights outside going on and off. We slept weekends outside of the house.
Our parents came to visit, but we ended up getting them a hotel room instead. This house is like an old college dormitory. I'm sorry to say it.
Cecilia told us she's never had a complaint. I think the ideal guests would be a young group of people who are in for a long weekend and need affordable accommodations. This house is really a mixed bag, but could have been great.
