Stunning roof top double bedroom in very relaxed holiday house on lovely Takaungu beach, 20 mins south of Kilifi, secluded, 1 km from village, communal kitchen, shared bathroom, roof terrace, caretakers to look after you, sandy beach, great swimming. Calm, relaxed, peaceful. A 'Lonely Planet must visit recommendation.'

Le logement

Takashak is a rustic 3 bedroom beach house right on the beach. You can either rent the whole house or individual rooms and maybe share with others. See our other listings for details.

Family owned for 35 years, the house has been sympathetically improved over the years, whilst maintaining a simple beach house character. Light is provided by hurricane lamps.

You will be looked after by William and Nickson, two charming local Giriama caretakers.

Takashak is very chilled. Get ready to slow down, read, switch your phone off, swim, snorkle, sun-bathe, eat fish straight from the sea, walk up the creek, walk along the beach at full moon, explore the ancient village of Takaungu.

You will be self catering but basic help is available from William and Nixon who can do some food preparation, wash the dishes, laundry and cleaning, bed-making etc.

The last 20 metres of the private drive is a steep 4 wheel drive only hill. 2 wheel drive vehicles can be left at the top of the hill 50 metres from the house.

On arrival you'll be offered a fresh coconut juice off our own coconut trees to revitalise you after your journey. Karibu!

Accès des voyageurs

You have use of the whole house plus the caretakers William and Nixon.

Échanges avec les voyageurs

You may well have the house to yourselves or you could be sharing. Takashak is our holiday home, a very special place in our lives, and it's a pleasure to share such a beautiful secluded spot.

Autres remarques

Tipping is customary but not obligatory. Please respect local Muslim customs. Takaungu is not a tourist hot spot. It's a quiet peaceful village with a long history. Please respect and enjoy.

10/10! I couldn't have had a better Airbnb experience. Simply paradise staying here. Both William and Nickson were amazing and so much fun to be around. I really enjoyed meeting their friends and family in the surrounding village as well (just a short walk away). Do yourself a favor and book this place now. A true gem indeed.

If you want somewhere remote and beautiful, peaceful and simple, with a lovely beach mostly to yourselves and the sunrise waking you up in the morning, this is the place for you.

Takashack is more than just a place, it is a reminder that a life lived simply is the most elegant of all. The location is secluded, intimate and spacious at the same time. The shack is rustic and relaxing, furnished with character and quirky details. The staff are open, friendly, beyond competent and can cook incredibly well. Truth is I can't say enough about Takashack, it's a little haven nestled like a barnacle on the side of a charming village and open to the Indian ocean. It's a place where life is simple, sweet and good. My only wish is that we could have stayed there longer.

This is one of those secret spots I'd like to keep to myself but it wouldn't be fair to Bruce. It's simply a slice of paradise. Your bedroom hovers over the Indian Ocean. You fall asleep to the sound of the sea and wake up to the sunrise behind a palm tree. Do yourself a favor and get William to show you around Takaungu village where the locals will make you feel totally welcome. Try the mamosas. Love this place.
