Le logement

Maison Vitry was built for Free Woman of Color, Louise Vitry and her French consort, Archille Courcelle in 1855. The house was subject of an 1858 Louisiana Supreme Court Decision in which Louise Vitry was allowed to keep her house and her 7 slaves prior to Civil War.

1855 Creole House belonging to a Free Woman of Color within walking distance of the French Quarter in the Historic Treme. House is a step back in time to 19th Century New Orleans with grand proportions, 14 foot ceilings, original fireplaces, mahogany staircase, ceiling medallions. Visit MaisonVitry for more details, photos and info.

New Orleans is a romantic city. If you want to experience the romance of the past, here it is. Within earshot of the fog horns of the boats on the Mississippi River.

If you're looking for a truly unique experience and want to avoid cookie cutter travel, we'd love to show you our one of a kind city.

House is 10 block walk to the Quarter or $6-8 cab ride (one way). House is exactly 1 mile to Jazz Fest Fair Grounds, 7/10 mile to downtown and less than a mile and a half from City Park/Voodoo Fest.

Most of the bedrooms and amenities are set on the second floor for your comfort. A large master bedroom queen size bed, a 2nd bedroom queen size bed and a large guest bedroom-living room (the blue room in the photos) with a sleep sofa and a queen air mattress. Spacious kitchen-dining room and two full bathrooms upstairs. Downstairs a 3rd bedroom queen size bed and a 3rd full bathroom. The upstairs sitting room connects to both side and front balconies that catches the breeze with incredible views of New Orleans downtown skyline and the back of the Armstrong Park Sign, especially at night. Perfect for evening cocktails. Extra big double parlor downstairs with sofas and chairs. House is 3,700 square feet plus the balconies and garden so there is plenty of room for a group to move around without stepping on each other's toes.

Downstairs, make yourself at home in a private, large, lush tropical garden with spanish moss draped trees, tinkling fish filled fountains, covered screened porch, plenty of chairs, outdoor speakers with radio or iPod connector, a barbecue grill, and night lighting. You have your own, private flower filled New Orleans oasis. It is a great place to un-wind and slow down to 'New Orleans time'. You'll probably find yourself spending most of your time out in the patio.

Whole house does not have central heat and a/c, Ceiling fans and a/c window units in all the rooms as well as Gas space heaters for the winter time (heaters must be turned off while leaving the house).

CHECK IN time after 1:00 pm. CHECK OUT time before 1:00 P.M. CST.

Will be happy to answer enquiries via email as to availability for full house.

This place is gorgeous and certainly an exceptional house for those who like a lot of character and a unique experience. We fit 7 people in comfortably. The kitchen is modern and well equipped and there are three good bathrooms. However, it was incredibly cold in NOLA during o…

Six of us stayed for 5 nights at Will & Mao's amazing Creole Mansion. Yes, it is decayed...but filled with charm, lovely antiques, tons of books, and really comfortable beds. We often had our cocktails on the screened in deck while listening to the cardinals in the cool and sha…

Will and Mao were awesome and responsive hosts (plenty of suggestions for food, entertainment, etc.), and the lodgings were what we expected. The house is right outside the French Quarter and roughly 1 mile walk from Decatur St. It's close, but far away enough where you can enj…
