The ocean is just across the street for daily snorkeling or diving. The largest white sand beach on the island is just 5 minutes by car and there are 5 star resorts near by with golf, spa and other amenities. A/C was recently installed. 3 night minimum

Aloha! Our company does not employ ANY CLEANERS. All cleaning services are provided by 3rd party vendor services. Any cleaning fees are strictly the cost of the invoice provided by the service. When the cleaning company cleans the house for the first time, we set the cleaning fee based on what they charge. When a guest leaves a house "trashed", there are many extra hours involved, they clean every surface in the house from top to bottom. The cleaning companies here in Hawaii charge $25-$35 per hour. This is not what you pay on the mainland....I would assume that you probably can get cleaners for $15 per hour. Yes, the cost of living is much higher here and hourly wages are higher for dependable services. Our normal cleaning fee for this home is $350. It takes two cleaners at $35 per hour to clean it from top to bottom. At the time, AirBnB had a maximum cleaning fee of $300. The cleaning invoices received for Justin and "his guests" totaled $450. I have photos and a video of the condition of the house. AirBnB did not reimburse my owner for the additional $150 of cleaning required to clean up Justin's mess. They "cut up" beautiful, exotic place mats by using them as cutting board. This is totally disrespectful. The host only has 48 hours to notify airbnb of security deposit issues. That is not enough time to receive all the invoices. I have been a professional property manager, a licensed real estate broker for 35 years, an agent for 39 years. I have specialized in vacation rentals for over 20 years. In 20 years, I have only had to charge a security deposit 4 times. This is extremely rare to find a house is such disrespectful condition and so dirty. I have a license and I have fiduciary responsibility to my clients to protect their property which is entrusted to me and I have been doing a good job of that for nearly 39 years. We offer very lovely beach homes in Hawaii for you to vacation in paradise and we expect you to treat our homes with respect and loving care. Mahalo! Debbie

Most of our properties in Puako do not have AC, but this is a record hot summer and we wish we did! There are lots of ceiling fans and the temps are cooler at night.

Aloha, The house is advertised as sleeping six because there is a SOFA BED IN THE LIVING ROOM. Your inquiry and reservation said there was 4 of you, so I am curious as to why there were six? We charge a higher rate for six people, and you paid for four people. The punee on the porch is for taking a nap, reading a book and relaxing outdoors. It is not outside the gate of the property! It is on the downstairs porch! We are a professional property management company here for over 20 years. This lovely vacation home has been in our rental pool for over 3 years and never a complaint such as yours. We have a professional pest control service and had you called us, we would have had them there immediately. AirBnB should require guests to call about their issues before they are allowed to complain on their review. Other vacation websites do. No one texted me or called about bug issues. We do have geckos living in the bamboo ceilings at this house...they are kind of a Hawaii mascot and they EAT BUGS! Maybe a bug fell as he was trying to get away, you did not say what kind of bug was falling from the rafter, I am curious! It is also our experience, that our guests do not close the screen doors when entering and exiting the deck and it only takes a second for a bug to get in, especially at night when the lights are on. Tent fumigation is what is done for termites and we don't have termites. We have normal Tropical Bugs, these are the tropics and our House Rule states: INSECT CONTROL- The owner retains the services of a professional pest control company for the purpose of maintaining insect control in and around the premises, on a regular basis. However, we are in the "Tropics" and insects can be resistant to complete eradication. Several of the luxury hotels on the Big Island have "bug spray" available to their guests, as do we. We cannot guaranty complete control over Mother Nature's insects and will not issue any refunds due to the sighting of insects. Personally, I have never seen one roach in this house, nor has my housekeeping staff, so maybe the screens were left open at night. I looked through my airbnb text messages and I have no idea about what you are referring to about not texting after hours. I text after hours every day. I list my cell phone on the office voicemail. The only text I had from you was a request to change your reservation dates, which I did. Perhaps you texted me late at night and I was already asleep. But I respond immediately to all texts messages unless I am driving or sleeping or out of range. HERE ARE SOME OTHER REVIEWS WHICH ARE HONEST AND NOT FABRICATED: Hale Ke Alaula Review We really enjoyed our stay at Hale Ke Alaula. We love the location and the quiet neighborhood right across the street from access to the water. Picking up the key and finding the house went seamlessly. The house was a great size - lots of room for all 4 of us. The house was equipped with a great kitchen and the washer and dryer were very convenient. We LOVED the spacious deck - it is exactly as pictured. We hope to visit again next spring! Thanks very much to Aloha Debbie for making everything go so smoothly! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The tropical bungaloo for the family (or two couples) who appreciates style and comfort Super airy and open floor plan involving a lower locking entrance and a house with something like 12 double doors you open and can leave open to provide air-flow, birdsong, easy flow from outside to inside. Great furnishings, bathrooms, and kitchen. Not so much ocean view, but great trees, and walkable to typical Puako rocky coastal access--but great areas for ocean gazing right across the street. Wear your shoes inside the house because the flow from deck to inside is seamless and the floors get dirty quickly. Easy short drive to Waikaloa, Mauna Lani, Kawaihae, and Waimea dining and food shopping. What a relaxing, beautiful, truly tropical down-to-earth but luxurious vacation house. We'd stay again in a minute.
