Le logement
Imagine the freedom of a farm holiday in the idyllic Limousin countryside. Where you can camp out in comfort under the stars in a safari tent or yurt. Where your children can play in the woods and fields, help round up the animals or watch a lamb or calf being born. Where you can swim, walk or cycle by day, and relax around the campfire savouring delicious French food and wine by night. Welcome to La Tuilerie, your dream holiday down on the farm.

Accès des voyageurs
This yurt sleeps up to four people while our other yurt can sleep up to six. With wooden floors, a double bed and single futon beds, rugs and cushions, and all bedding and duvets supplied, we can guarantee you'll feel warm and comfortable, even on those rare chilly nights.

Don't forget, we provide all your wood as part of the cost of your farm holiday so you can sit around the campfire every night, star gaze and revel in the joy of being in the outdoors.

Wake up to the sounds of the countryside and a delicious continental breakfast. We provide complimentary tea, coffee, hot chocolate, fresh baguettes and a selection of home-made jams. If you wish, we can order fresh croissants, pain au chocolat and other pastries from our local artisan bakery. All you've got to do is ask.

Each yurt has its own private shower room and toilet which you can find in our quaint old camp house, a stone's throw from your tent. If you want to cook a bigger meal or escape the midday sun, the farmhouse boasts two, shared, fully equipped kitchens, a dining room and relaxing sofas in our kids playroom. You can wash and dry your clothes here, store food in one of our large, shared fridges and lock away personal items. We also provide ice-boxes if you want to keep chilled food and drinks in your yurt.

The days are long and hot during the summer months so if you want to stay cool make sure you pack your swimming costume. Our heated nine metre pool gives you a great excuse to lie back and relax on a sun lounger in the shade of a parasol while the kids have fun splashing around. What better way to enjoy the perfect lazy summer day?

Autres points à prendre en note
During your stay you'll have the chance to sample our delicious range of home produced food. In our farm shop we sell free range eggs, succulent lamb, a range of seasonal fruit and vegetables, plus home made jams, ice-cream and home baking. Your kids will love helping us pick vegetables, collect eggs and feed the chickens. And in late summer you can take to the woods en famille to forage for blackberries, nuts and mushrooms.

Cooking and eating al fresco around the campfire is an experience you and your kids won't want to miss. The aroma and flavours of open fire cooking is something to relish, especially when you've worked up an appetite having fun in the great outdoors. Your yurt has its own campfire with all the requisite pots and cooking equipment. Plus, we have barbeques, and in the adjacent camp house, there's a fully equipped kitchen so if you want to cook indoors for a change, you'll find everything you need.

Friday evenings are a real gastronomic treat at La Tuilerie. It's when all our guests are invited to join us for a four-course 'table d'hôte' dinner, a culinary feast made from the best of our freshly picked, flavoursome home produce. Everyone gets together around the table in the farmhouse garden for an evening to remember. There's a set menu plus veggie and kids' options so everyone can join in.

Saint-Maurice-la-Souterraine, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France

Visit us at Limousin Farm Holidays and you'll find plenty to do outside of the farm in the local area. From walking to cycling, wildlife to watersports, there's plenty to keep you and your family entertained all day long.

If you love spending your holidays seeking out the local wildlife, our region is a gem. Heavily wooded, there's an extensive network of rivers and lakes to explore where you'll find a range of fascinating flora and fauna. Around the farm, if you're lucky, you'll be able to see wild boar, badgers, foxes, roe deer, beech martins and red squirrels.

This area is also a birdwatchers paradise. We regularly see, red kites, owls, buzzards, osprey, woodpeckers, hoopoes and kingfishers. Make sure you bring your binoculars and visit our wetlands.

Explore by bike or foot
There are many kilometres of tracks, in the woods and between local hamlets. We can provide you with maps and route suggestions, and if you don't have bikes, no problem, you can borrow them from us.

Stunning lakes
The nearest lake with a beach is in La Souterraine. It's clean and safe for swimming and has a playpark and restaurant. If you're a fan of watersports, many lakes and some rivers have canoeing, kayaking, sailing, and waterskiing. Check out Lac d'Eguzon, Lac de Saint-Paradou, and Lac de Vassivière.

Go riding
If you want to get the full cowboy and Indian experience and take in the countryside on horseback, there are a number of local trekking centres that you can visit, including La Vergnolle horseriding centre.

Swing through the trees
Give the kids something to really go ape about. Kids from 4-5 (and adults) love the sheer exhilaration of activity centres such as Tarz en Arbre Limoges and Arbre en Arbre Vassivière.

Culture, sports and leisure in our nearest town
The nearest town to La Tuilerie is La Souterraine (6km away) where you'll find a good selection of independent shops plus large supermarkets like Carrefour, banks, a cultural centre, sports centre and a cinema (with some English language films). In the centre of this pretty old market town is a medieval church that's worth a visit. Plus, there are a good selection of restaurants, and a local produce market twice a week where you can stock up on local cheeses, meats and other delicious treats.

Other local outdoor attractions
Also within easy reach of our farm are the wolf park Les loups de Chabrières at Guéret, the giant maze and activity park Labyrinthe Géant des monts de Guéret and the famous WWII village of Oradour-sur-Glanes.

Hi - I'm a 45 year old Brit and former project manager who decided to give up the rat race and build a new life in France. My partner Hugh and I bought a beautiful farm in the Limousin where we farm cows and sheep and run a farm holiday camping business. I am loving my new life. Hugh, a life-long farmer, is teaching me how to look after our animals and land. I'm learning a new language and culture, and making new friends. My morning commute has been replaced with feeding our cows, sheep and chickens; my evening commute, with a walk around our fields with a glass of wine while we watch the sunset or pottering in the garden. We love to share our new life with others. You are always sure of a warm welcome at the farm. Please come and stay and enjoy a relaxing holiday in one of our safari-tents or yurts.

The beauty of Limousin Farm Holidays is that you can enjoy getting close to the animals and learning from Hugh and Michael about good farming practice and animal welfare. The wonder of seeing a lamb or calf born is something that we believe everyone should experience, young and old. And if you want to help us out, there's always something practical to do. Our young visitors love feeding the chickens and collecting their eggs. And there are plenty of fruit and vegetables to pick in season too.
