Rachel and her family are the best hosts anyone could ask for. Their private apartment is so welcoming, comfortable, fun, and affordable! It is very easy to check in. The apartment had some coffee, Kashi bars, yogurts, and sparkling water for when I arrived, all nice touches that I was not expecting. The shower was great, nice water pressure. The bed was very, very comfortable!!!! There were also some recommendations for coffee and restaurants labeled on a map in the apartment. It was a great place to stay vs. a hotel, because you really got the full Portland experience staying in a beautiful neighborhood. I must add that we were there for the solar eclipse, and Rachel did NOT price gouge or raise her normal rates one bit! They are a genuine and honest family. They even gave us some camping chairs for our eclipse adventure.
On top of ALL that, if you are choosing to use airbnb as an alternative to hotels to 1) get more of an authentic experience, and 2) to connect with local people, Rachel and her family are the perfect option. My husband and I had such a great time getting to know Rachel, her husband, and her 2 kids for the 8 days that we were there, and even went to dinner one night. Although they were more than willing to give us 100% of "our space", we engaged with them and wanted to interact.
NOTE: If you don't want to interact with the host as much as we did, don't let our experience deter you. This listing is 100% private from their living space, and the hosts do respect your privacy!
