Hello, I'm Duncan, I love Hastings and I'm sure you will too...
Whip your costumes on, Carnival is just around the corner! This amazing celebration takes place throughout the first week of August. It is a week of fun and nonsense, filled with lots of bright colours. Carnival night on Saturday closes the week. There are different events going everyday such as; The memorial bike ride, The pram race and much, much more!
Get your skates on - Its almost here! The fantastic Coastal Currents Arts Festival starts in September and finishes after two weeks. All the events are free and this year is supposed to be the best one yet! Come and check it all out.
You have to explore the Old Town and it's wealth of retro clothes, furniture shops and galleries which are now spreading to St Leonards too. There is a newly-restored 650 seat cinema/theatre opening in St Leonards in July along with some great new restaurants!
You will want to stay for longer as there are some amazing places for sightseeing like the East and West hills, The fire hills and there is more.
The accommodation I am offering is a large double bedroom, in a quiet garden (basement) flat that is a 3 minute walk from St Leonards Warrior Square Station. Close to amenities (Gym/Swimming pool which are only about a 7 minute walk from here), beach (7 mins), town centre (15 mins) and the fabulous Old Town and Jerwood Gallery (25 minutes) and Hastings Country Park (half an hour's walk).
Shared kitchen, sitting room, bathroom and toilet. Near to the historic Battle of Hastings, where the fabulous Battle Abbey sits. Rye and Bexhill's De La Warr Pavilion, where you can get some food (there is a small cafe), where you can go and relax and a place where you can see some fascinating paintings.
The flat is basic, hence the bargain price, but is very clean and comfortable and fresh. There is some ongoing redecoration, that hopefully won't disturb you. Breakfast can be arranged but I offer a standard of toast, bread, fruit, juice, cereal etc.
I now have wifi!!! My wifi is a small white sort of an oblong oval shape and has got the word "HUAWEI" written on the front of it (just in case you can't find it when I am out, but hopefully it will be in its special place (I will go through that if you come!)
If the calendar says that the room is available, just book it! We can sort everything else out between ourselves.
There are some fine restaurants within walking distance offering traditional fish & chips, steaks, seafood, Indian, Chinese, Ghurka, French, Thai and Italian cuisine. There are a wealth of old (and not-so-old) pubs, bars and clubs, 2 cinemas (soon will be 3!), 2 theatres and a bit of sand on the beach (if you know where to go).
Hastings is home to many famous musicians, artists and other celebrities and enjoys a Bohemian reputation. Local bands play live almost every day of the week (in most pubs and on occasions, at the Stade) and are normally free.
"Jack in the Green" is a well known celebration to the people of Hastings and St Leonards. This is a great thing for Tourists and if you like traditional things then, I'm sure that you will adore it! It happens every year and will hopefully carry on like that. I will not tell you what it's about as I think that you should come and see it for yourself! I also wouldn't like to spoil the excitement of it for you. It happens on May day and there are things going on on the day before it in Butler's Gap which gets very crowded and loud but it is also a lot of good fun if you like music and pubs and people! This is also one of the best things that happens in Hastings and me, my daughters, family and friends always go and I always Paint my face green and try to wear green clothes to show how much I love it and how much I am committed to it! Me and my youngest, Flossie always go in the procession (not doing anything, just walking with it!) you would be very welcome to tag along with us if you feel up to it and if you are up for a laugh.
Pirate Day, Old Town Week, Fat Tuesday, Hastings Week, Chess week, the half-marathon and Sussex Bonfire are all spectacular and free events. There are many local beer and music festivals as well as the Herring, Scallop and Seafood & Wine festivals. Hastings has at least two micro-breweries and many wineries close by. And, of course, some of the best fresh fish (caught locally) I have eaten anywhere.
You will want to stay longer. I love Hastings!
Talk to me about deals for longer stays!
Cooked breakfast can be arranged and I can also accommodate up to 4 more people upon request and negotiation. Please ask.
There is a large Lidl store 3 minutes walk away if you need any supplies.
Please leave the keys on the kitchen table and shut the front door behind you.
