“Kazan – Turkish upmarket Kazan is an upmarket Turkish restaurant, but the food is as generous and hearty as its less extravagant cousins. The décor is beautifully opulent, with black furnishings and plenty of red and gold accents, while the menu is inspired by the food produced in the Sultans’ kitchens from the Ottoman era, but with a distinctly modern feel. 93-94 Wilton Rd, Lillington and Longmoore Gardens, London SW1V 1DW £££ ”

“*The Thomas Cubitt – Upmarket stylish pub Named after the great Belgravia architect - is a perfect paneled pub, enclosed by French windows on two sides which open out on to the pretty Elizabeth Street and the huddles of tables outside, adding to the light, airy feel. The menu is focused on unfussy British country house cuisine, with occasional nods to traditional French food. Crisp crackling, slow-cooked Sunday roasts, fresh seafood, chocolate sponge, and lots of seasonal game and cheeses are the mainstays. The dining room prices are eye-watering (not surprisingly given the location, and the stunning building), but the short bar menu is excellent value, and it packs out at weekends. ”

“Just the other side of Victoria station is this traditional Scottish restaurant and bar, housed in a Regency townhouse complete with a cigar terrace. This place oozes class, with gleaming mahogany and red tones dominating the colour scheme, emulating the feel of an old-fashioned gentlemen’s club. There are multiple separate restaurants and bars within the building, with elegant private dining rooms to hire. As is only fitting, whisky is the order of the night, with Boisdale boasting a collection of rare Scottish malts, alongside a host of enticing cocktails and wines. The cherry on the top of each room is the nightly tunes of live jazz.”

“*La Poule au Pot – Old style French bistro (17 minute walk) This French bistro would be comically cliched if it wasn't, in fact, the genuine article: the hanging baskets, cramped wooden furnishings, and rustic decor have been a Chelsea favourite since it was set up by emigres in 1962. Rabbit stews, fish soups and other bistro classics come lovingly prepared, and in suitably lavish portions. Romantic dinners are a specialty at La Poule au Pot and many lovers have bonded in appreciation of their magical steak béarnaise, fresh fish and foie gras. The vin de table is served in a magnum and you only pay for what you drink, a policy which perfectly reflects the unpretentious atmosphere. This restaurant has not changed for 30 years but why change when its already fantastic. 231 Ebury Street, London SW1W 8UT ££-£££ ”
