  • My Wife and I picked Danny and Marisa's cottage based on reviews and it did nothing to disappoint. Clean, comfortable, quiet and easy access to all the restaurants and nightlife. The family is very accommodating and friendly. We would highly recommend giving this location a try when in the Apalachicola area!

  • My husband and brother stayed at Marisa's place...They report..."A great crash pad for 2 fun loving guys taking to the road for a motorcycle trip. Her place had everything we needed."

  • We had a wonderful time! The guest home was perfect, clean and well kept. Our hosts were very sweet and even gave us a cooler and beach chairs to use. The previous "negative" issues with the fire pit and bleach smell were either corrected or inaccurate. We had such a great stay, we are already talking about going back. Apalach was a really fun, laid-back town. We loved the restaurants and the new brewery. St George Island was a very short drive away and had beautiful, un-crowded beaches. This area is truly a hidden gem. We hope to return soon! Thanks again!

  • Even with my own technology glitches, the hosts had the space open and ready when I arrived mid afternoon from a long haul out of Texas. A hot shower, comfortable chairs, and just the right amount of heat at my control set me right for a relaxing stay. Air conditioning was good to go, but not needed. Marisa was out of town, but I ran into her husband Danny in town later. He even introduced me to some locals at the excellent brewery, and I felt like a welcome guest with all the Christmas camaraderie. I could walk to all the restaurants et al in town in 5 minutes from my comfortable, private studio. Slept like a baby. My dog loved it, and all the dog- friendly establishments around Apalach, too! Oysters were abundant everywhere.

  • Cottage was quaint and comfy and convenient to everything in town.

    Thomas2017-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • We arrived and found the apartment easily. It was a hot and sweaty July afternoon but found the apartment cool although the AC unit did seem to be on constantly. The apartment was exactly as described. Marisa was not there but she had left to room ready for us. We walked to the main street of town which is only 5 minutes where we found several good restaurants and interesting shops. We had a nice relaxing couple of days as intended. Many thanks Marisa, you may well be seeing us again.

    David2015-08-01T00:00:00Z
  • Location was as described. Marisa was on vacation while we were there but very accessible.

    Ruthie 2015-07-13T00:00:00Z
  • Marisa's place is very clean and comfortable! It's location was very convenient for our beach excursions to St George's Island. We would love to stay here again.

This small, but uniquely beautiful and well-appointed studio apartment is on the ground floor of a gorgeous, fully restored historic home, located directly behind the famous Gibson Inn in the unique coastal village of Apalachicola, FL.
The very recently renovated/restored apartment, within the grand Hays House (built between 1906 and 1908) is a lovely home away from home. Guests will enjoy a small, but well-appointed and comfortably furnished studio apartment, professionally decorated with fine linens, unique furnishings and original artwork. The bed is a queen size and has been said to be absolutely heavenly. There is a window unit air conditioner and a ceiling fan. Please note, this is an OLD house, and as such, has a few idiosyncrasies (we think of it as character) but please be assured, cleanliness and comfort are our priorities.
The Hays House is located at the gateway to the downtown historic City of Apalachicola. Visitors to Apalachicola enjoy the best of fresh Florida Seafood and Southern Hospitality as well as local "Key West of the North" colorful characters, a burgeoning art community, fine retail shopping and even a new, award-winning craft brewery. All this in the setting of one of the last authentic, working fishing villages in the South, world-renowned for the best oysters available anywhere. We're happy to let you in on all our secrets, like where insiders and locals go to eat, what band you can catch a the Bowery Station and who might be singing karaoke at The Tapas. We'll tell you where you can find the best oysters, a bartender who can make your favorite cocktail, and direct you to some wonderful beaches or historic sites not everyone knows.
  • Hays House Petit Jardin Studio is a very small, but charming place. well suited to travelers who don't want to cook much (as there is no stove, only a hot plate and microwave), but who enjoy restaurants and other local venues that are within walking distance. Molly was a wonderful host, helpful in every way, pointing out places to eat and getting my husband to the local hospital when he experienced heart problems.

    Esther2015-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Great location and hospitality. You won't be disappointed.

    Mary2017-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • The Hays House is a wonderful place to stay in Apalachicola. Molly is a great host who went above and beyond to help me pull off my first solo vacation. The house is gorgeous and centrally located. The room is comfy and has everything you need. It's also inexpensive for this area. I doubt you'll find a better deal!

    Jasmine2016-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • Charming and enjoyable.

    Mike2015-07-05T00:00:00Z
  • Great communication and flexibility from Molly! Loved the location downtown, walking distance to everything. Rgoeally enjoyed being in a beautifully decorated room and art studio old house. Very clean and comfortable! Thank you, Molly!

  • Freezing weather messed up my travel plans, but when I finally arrived in Apalachicola, I felt instantly at home in this charming house, filled with color and creativity. Everything was as pictured in the room, and it was super comfortable. It's really nice when hosts provide some snacks, fruit, water for when you first arrive, and all of these were plentiful. Molly was the best -- friendly, helpful, lots of good tips on where to eat and drink in town, a talented and welcoming woman. I loved Apalachicola, and will definitely want to return next winter to Petit Jardin.

  • I'm a frequent visitor to Apalach and have been a fan of The Green Door since Amy first opened her doors. When I found out her new place, the historic Hayes House, had a room to rent, I was ecstatic. The room is beautifully decorated and so cozy and as they advertise, it is perfect for a single person or a close couple. I was greeted with a warm welcome from everyone who was there during my visit. I even got to meet Jilly, the house cat, who stayed with me in my room for an afternoon of napping. I can't wait to go back. The price is very reasonable. And Apalach is my favorite place to be...I dream about this sleepy, wonderful, eclectic town. The mixture of art, culture, and dining coupled with the locals makes for an enjoyable stay. Thank you so much for making me feel like a local for a couple of days. I absolutely loved every second.

  • We LOVED our stay at the Hays House! the room and house were more beautiful and comfortable than I had imagined! We were near amazing food, good beer, and local music, but we had a quiet private retreat. We enjoyed relaxing on the porch and chatting about the area with our charming host. Molly was ready and available to answer questions about the quirky, old house, local food, and fun activities. This weekend felt like staying in a friend's beautiful home. We're already mentally planning our next stay.

    Paula 2017-07-03T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful house in a fantastic location. Everything was all good, relaxing and comfortable. Definitely will stay there again.

  • Outstanding! My stay at the Hays House was comfortable, relaxing, and first class! Wonderful artwork decorates the whole house! The bed & pillows were very comfortable and the bathroom was clean! I would recommend this as a place to stay for anyone coming into the area! Molly was very warm and welcoming. She answered all my questions! Great locations within walking to distance to all the restaurants!

    Lizzy2016-07-09T00:00:00Z
  • Molly and Amy are wonderful hosts! They make you feel right at home as soon as you enter. The home is very clean and beautiful and its location is perfect! You won't need your car once.

    Sarah2016-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • The Hays House and specifically our room, "Love You More," exceeded our expectations ten fold. Art drenched and finely restored, the old house greeted us with open arms. It was walking distance to EVERYTHING (shops/restaurants/bars) and a football field from the boat launch. It was an epic experience of firsts: 1st time in Apalachicola, 1st time in a bed and breakfast, and 1st time to use Airbnb. All three were a home run! Molly and Amy were gracious, welcoming, and funny. My husband and I looked forward to our mornings drinking coffee (or mimosas) with our hosts on the 2nd floor porch. Apalachicola is a gem, one of the last great small towns of the south (and Florida for that matter) where time truly slows down. We pulled our fishing boat down and spent 3 glorious days fishing and exploring private beaches just the two of us- recovering from a tough season in life. Sun weary at night, we walked to local eateries for the best seafood in the country before collapsing in our luxe king bed for the night. Thank you Molly and Amy! We will be back! -Lacey and John Howell

At Riverwood Suites it isn’t just a room, it’s an experience. The rustic exterior may surprise you but when you walk into your suite you are instantly captivated by the chic upcycled decor. The modern amenities make you feel right at home. You enjoy wine on the veranda or enjoy a cup of coffee in the back garden. (Keurig coffee maker, coffee, tea, creamer, and sugar are also provided) Everything you need is provided: toiletries, linens, kitchenware, even a full size refrigerator with ice maker.
What is it like to stay at the Riverwood Suites? At Riverwood Suites it isn’t just a room, it’s an experience. Picture it: You drive up to the Historic Baltimore House located in downtown Apalach. At first you think, “Is this the right place?” The rustic exterior may take you by surprise. But as you walk through the iron gate you realize that this is definitely the right place. You go up the stairs and enter your suite. The cool air is a relief from the Florida heat. A cold drink would be great right about now and then you notice the full size refrigerator and a freezer with ice that is all ready for you. It’s been a long trip and the California King bed is calling your name. The rustic chic décor makes you feel right at home, a home you only wish was yours. Before you hit the hay, you grab a glass from the kitchenette and pop open a bottle of red wine. You relax on the veranda and sip your drink while looking out over downtown. You sleep better than you’ve ever slept before and wonder where we got these sheets. The morning comes and you enjoy a freshly brewed cup of joe from the Keurig coffee maker. You relax in the back garden while you wait for your massage and haircut at the on-site Aveda salon. Later you stroll down to the unique shops, restaurants, and nightlife just block or two away. And when your trip has come to its end and you’re packing your bags you think to yourself, “Wow, this was the best vacation I’ve ever had.”
We are located downtown, within walking distance to the area's finest restaurants, unique shopping, and nightlife.

  • Our stay in The Baltimore House was more than I could've imagined. The pictures just cannot do it justice and the history of the building is so interesting. The room was immaculate and beautiful with the softest sheets and comfy bed I have ever slept on. Can't say enough good things about the vibe of this small town. We sat out on the veranda in the rockers in the evening to listen to some live music from down the block and enjoyed the breeze. The garden area in the back is gorgeous and well kept with plenty of seating to relax and listen to the fountain. The shops downtown all all within walking distance and the historic buildings have been restored beautifully. We are definitely coming back and bringing the family so they can experience discovering this lovely area like my husband and I did. If you are looking for a meal with a view I highly recommend Up The Creek raw oyster bar which has an outdoor observation deck where you get to look over the river and watch diving Pelicans, shrimp boats floating by and we even got to see a couple of dolphins swim by while we were eating.

  • Great little place. Perfect location.

    Ethan2017-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay in the Sea Glass suite was wonderful, and Monica was a great host with very good communication and availability. We only stayed one night because we had an awkward one night between two other destinations, and this worked out perfectly. I just wished we could've stayed longer! The space was so beautifully decorated, clean, and comfortable. We love visiting Apalachicola with our boys (4, 7, 13), and we would definitely stay here again, given the opportunity. Even with the 5 of us, we had plenty of room (the three boys were able to sleep in the sofa-bed comfortably). We ate at the Hole in the Wall for lunch (oysters!), Slice for dinner (pizza! - if you're needing a change from the fried fish/burger selection), and my husband and I spent some time at the Bowery Station (one block up toward the water) for some amazing music and fun!

    Maddie2017-07-08T00:00:00Z
  • Had a fantastic experience here. Wish I could've stayed for longer! Beautiful little town. The suites are a perfect match for the Apalachicola's vibe and are well suited for comfort and relaxation. I will be back.

    Alex2017-04-09T00:00:00Z
  • Very pretty location! The room is fantastic. I liked the decor it was funky and rustic but luxurious. The copper sinks were beautiful and I liked the shutters on all the windows.

    Penny2016-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • We loved this place and the town of Apalachicola. We came on a Sunday, so pretty quiet, but right down the street there was bar that had a band playing. There are also lots of artsy shops within walking distance. The bed was comfortable, the decor was great, couch awesome for chilling. We love staying at historical places and use AirBNB all the time--this was just perfect for us!

"Houseland" once was a houseboat on the Apalachicola River. This handmade wooden home is a unique space with a great yard and prime location. It was pulled from the river in 2009 and made into a home in 2010. This cottage was featured in Southern Living, Country Living and Home and Design magazines. Walking distance from downtown and the waterfront. Pictures current. Large fenced in yard for our furry friends (2 max).
Cozy, Unique, Great bathrooms, Every wood lovers dream come true.
Great neighborhood. Historic north side of hwy 98. Homes across street are 1940’s. Just walking distance from entire downtown and riverfront. Parks are close. Private enough to feel like a local.
  • Houseland was a perfect getaway. Easy walking distance to downtown, but feels secluded. Kathy is a great host. Loved the outdoor bathroom. Highly recommended, unique property.

We have a cute two bedroom house. It's located 3 blocks from downtown Apalachicola. 2 blocks from the gas/convenience store. Our suite has two queen beds and a twin day bed with a trundle bed underneath. 2 bathrooms and full kitchen. Private entrance. Apalachicola offers an authentic taste of Florida's Gulf Coast. A quaint small southern town with restaurants which serve fresh local seafood. We own Tamara's Cafe, Tapas Bar and my mom owns Cafe Con Leche. Your stay with us is sure to be perfect!
You would be renting the entire house. Two bedrooms and two full bathrooms. Living and dining are in the same room. Big spacious kitchen with everything you need. Fenced in yard for your pets with a back porch.
My house is only 3 to 4 blocks from downtown so it’s walking distance to every restaurant and shop. The gas station is also down the street with a nice little quick convenience store. The grocery store is only 10 blocks down the street.

Great restaurant. A gourmet take on pizza and wings. We ate there twice during the weekend. Will definitely return.

  • Great location. There was a very comfortable bed in the private bedroom. The drawbacks were that the only bathroom was in this room therefore blocking out the guests on the pullout couch. No wifi was available. Pictures showed full kitchen but your not allowed to cook in the apartment. However, there was a microwave. Temperature control was excellent and host were very accessible.

If you want to relax in beautiful Apalachicola, you should consider this place. Have a pizza downstairs, it's also very good. And don't forget to visit the Oyster City brewery!

Their restaurant downstairs, Slice of Apalachicola was magnificent pizza. We had plenty of space in the den area, a wonderful porch/balcony that reminded me of the French Quarter in New Orleans. Don and Donna have only been renting these apartment suites for 4 months and going to do very well. We feel like we made new friends with them forever. Definitely will come again and recommend.

  • Absolutely great location. Balcony is an extra treat. Donna and Don were great hosts. Their pizza restaurant below was really amazing and the location can't be beat. Highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Apalachicola.

  • Great location and great communication! Very helpful ideas of what to do in town. Loved Bowery Station and recommendations for meals. My 2nd time here and looking forward to our next stay.

  • This was everything I expected and more. If perfectly suited my needs and the host was more than available. The place was right in the middle of the tourist-y spots while also feeling very secluded and private. The room was very clean and met all my needs. I liked it so much!

  • What a wonderful place in the perfect location! The hosts have done an amazing job remodeling this cottage. We enjoyed taking time to just look at all the thought and details that went into decorating the place. The balcony with the rocking chairs overlooking the river and bay was heaven both in the morning with a cup of coffee watching the sun rise and in the evening. It is steps away from all that downtown Apalachicola has to offer including the shops, restaurants, and river/bay. It is an absolutely perfect place to stay for the annual Running for the Bay marathon as it is only right around the corner to the start/finish line. The host, Susan, was the most responsive and helpful host ever! Great place, great host, great vacation!

This little house is gorgeous! It is roughly 1100 square feet and is only a brief walk from beautiful down town Apalachicola. It has tongue and groove cypress walls, ceilings and birch floors. The kitchen is huge and what a great place to relax and get away from the hustle bustle of todays stress. It was professionally decorated and is truly a gem. It has a laundry room, wifi, an amazing sound system, a fun front porch and overall, it is AMAZING...
The place has a nice back yard with a cool porch, plus it is quiet, quaint and a great place to sit back and enjoy the day.
  • This place is great. From the time you walk in you realize it is going to be a nice stay. The place is very cozy, comfortable and clean. The inside has been completely renovated. The fenced backyard makes it nice for pets. It is A half of a mile from all of the shops in downtown Apalachicola . My wife and I chose to walk and there were no issues. We would love to come again

    Jason2017-11-05T00:00:00Z
  • Wally's cottage is very, very nice. He did a great renovation job on this and the house next door. They are very clearly the nicest houses in the surrounding neighborhood. Very clean and well-kept. The house is well-appointed and we were comfortable for the week we spent there. The kitchen is spacious so if you want to cook, you have a good space. The location is a few minutes from the historic business district which is really great. You could walk when the weather is nice but it was pretty cold when we were there so we drove. 2-3 minutes. There is also a nice little park just East of the house towards the river that is a great place to walk. As mentioned in another review, the neighborhood itself is definitely transitional as are many of the small towns in the area. Very safe but some people may be put off by some of the houses and properties in the area. We walked our dog 2X per day and all we met were friendly people so I don't think it's anything to be concerned about. The town of Apalachicola is really interesting and is a great place to stay. We took day trips to St. George's Island, Apalachicola National Forest, Port St. Joe, Indian Pass - all were nearby. And did I mention the oysters?

    Andrew2017-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • If you like the charm of Apalach, this is a great place to stay. He has renovated one of the old houses on the hill into the cutest little place and he has landscaped the property very nicely. It is a nice walk into downtown or a close drive to the island for the beach. Wally is nice enough to allow a pet with a fee and the laundry room made a great place to set up the kennel for our small dog to be in when we were out although dogs are welcome on all patios in Apalach and even in some of the bars (everyone loves to pet them) so bring your dog along.

    Sarah2017-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • The place was as described and clean. Wolly was very friendly and helpful. Neighborhood seems to be going through gentrification; it was pleasant overall. We had a wonderful time!

This is the perfect time of the year for your winter getaway and Apalachicola is the perfect getaway spot. Situated in the middle of the panhandle on the Forgotten Coast, it's enhanced by miles of beautiful shoreline along the Bay and Apalachicola River and only minutes away from the Gulf of Mexico on St George Island. The magic will touch your heart and you won't want to leave.
Jasmine Cottage draws you in just as Apalachicola does. There is a feeling of peace and tranquility that is very evident as soon as you enter. The house was built in 1934 but was completely renovated in 2013/2014. It was literally rebuilt, maintaining its authentic Florida cottage character but with everything brand new. The guest suite is located at the back of the house and can be closed off from the rest of the house affording guests total privacy. Light dances across the queen size temper-pedic bed, but pull the sun blocking shades and you'll be able to sleep in as late as you'd like. The elegant spa like bath features a large glass and tile shower built for two. Equipped with amenities like a large flat screen TV, plenty of space to unpack and spread out, a mini coffee bar and access to the rest of the house including three porches, Linda and her two canine hooligans will make you feel like this is where you belong. And you don't need to leave your fur baby out of the fun. Dogs are allowed on a case by case basis and perhaps a refundable pet deposit. The backyard is fenced in with easy access through a doggy door and a large city dog park is just four blocks away. All that is required is that your dog is not left unattended and that you clean up after your pet. Located in a quiet neighborhood on the edge of the historic district, a brisk mile walk will bring you to downtown Apalach. Walk to the south about a half mile and you're on the shore of Apalachicola Bay. 4 blocks to the north with your dog and you're at the off leash dog park. 1.1 miles brings you to the historic maritime Florida Seafood Festival grounds, far enough away to maintain our peace and quiet. But close enough with a quick golf cart ride.
Apalachicola, Florida is a quiet fishing village surrounded by the Bay, the river and across the bay, the Gulf of Mexico. It is "Old Florida" in all the right ways. Wander oak lined streets with Century old mansions that will intrigue you with their stories of a bustling seaport built on lumber, cotton, fishing and oysters. Now the homes sit regally on the edge of the Bay overseeing majestic sunrises and sunsets. Known as Oyster Capital of the World, Apalach has been Florida's major producer of these succulent delicacies, not so long ago supplying 90% of Florida's oysters and 10% for the U.S. Ranked in the top ten bay fishing locations in the U.S., bring in your catch and have one of the local gourmet restaurants prepare it as you like it. With an abundance of casual eateries and fine dining, this small town will awaken your pallet and surprise you with a variety of downtown offerings. Food, spirits, art galleries, antiques, entertainment and boutique shopping draw the visitor, as well as frequent festivals and events throughout the year. Beginning in September, the panhandle truly becomes a piece of paradise. The humidity goes down along with the sultry temperatures, windows are thrown open to allow those sweet salty breezes to air out the homes. Front porches become true extra living space and those of us who semi-hibernate during the brutal summer heat re-appear to enjoy the heaven sent weather. The people and the dogs become friskier, and everyone is once again reminded of why Apalachicola is so special. During the first weekend of November the oldest Florida maritime festival captures the town with a parade, entertainment, oyster eating and shucking contests, booths and fresh seafood. Mardi Gras takes over the town the first part of February with a themed dog parade, music and a masquerade ball, and yes, again, lots of great food.
  • Linda and her friendly dogs were the perfect host! She welcomed us in her beautiful cottage during Hurricane Irma evacuation. We enjoyed the seafood in Apalachicola and the beach of St George Island as well. Would go back in a heartbeat!

  • Linda's place was the perfect gateway in the whole Apalachicola Bay. It was very well located, close to the historic downtown, in a very nice neighborhood. The room was cozy and comfortable. The breakfast was awesome, with fresh fruits and homemade granola and scones. Simply delicious! Linda couldn't have been a better host, she did everything to make us feel at home, even asking Alexa (Amazon app) to play Latin music in the mornings! She also gave us great advice on what to do in the surroundings during our stay. Milo and Otis were great and friendly dogs, we enjoyed them very much. We strongly recommend the Jasmine Cottage. Wish we could have stayed longer! We'll definetively come back soon. Thanks Linda, you are the best host ever :)

The "Mill Pond" My place is close to restaurants, galleries, shops, and a 15 minute drive to the beach. You’ll love it because of the comfy bed and the high ceilings. Great for solo adventurers, couples, business travelers, and furry friends (well behaved less than 20lbs for $35, but you must call ahead to confirm). A 700 sq. ft. open concept room with King size bed & Queen sleeper sofa, kitchenette with bistro style dining table and stools. In the heart of downtown
This newly renovated unit is on the second floor of a 115 year old historic wood ceilings, and exposed brick in dining area. You will not find a better location. We are located next door to the Dixie Theater and one block from the River. The building, super large room with King size bed plus queen sleeper sofa. Walk out and watch the Shrimp and Fishing boats go by. We do allow small pets (under 20 pounds), but call ahead to confirm this for your stay as this is not an automatic bookable item on AIRBNB. I look forward to meeting you soon.
We are in the heart of the Apalachicola historic district. It has a feel of "Little Key West" about 90 years ago when life was less complicated. Walk to shops, galleries, restaurants, and our own Oyster City Brewing Company ................. or choose an adventure on the water or at the beach. The working waterfront is one block away and you will see shrimp boats reminiscent of Forest Gump. Your visit to the Forgotten Coast of Florida is the way to build beautiful memories.
  • This was such an amazing little slice of the city. Great location and great owners.

    Joshua2017-04-23T00:00:00Z
  • Don gave a wonderful history of the town and provided great answers to our questions. The place is in the center of the action during the day. You can hear the restaurant below and all the activity outside. While it doesn't have a balcony, it has several large windows that open with excellent views of the downtown action. You can even see the port. This place is within walking distance of everything. It's nice to have a spot to take a break throughout the day. At night, the town goes to sleep but there are 1 or 2 options within a couple of blocks for anyone that likes to stay out a little later.

    Kevin2017-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • This was our second trip within two months..........couldn't stay away!!! We love the city and this apartment makes it even better. Excited to plan our next trip over from Pensacola.

  • The hosts were so welcoming and thoughtful and the location is awesome. We love staying in Apalachicola because it's such a laid back coastal town. The room is a really good size and has lots of natural light. Very comfortable bed and great shower.

    Paula2017-03-27T00:00:00Z
  • Don and Donna were just great, almost as great as this location! You really can not beat it. The bed and linens were so comfy and everything was clean. I would recommend this location to anyone that wants to stay in a family friendly little slice of God's gift. Our favorite thing to do was to wake up in the morning and walk our 4 legged family member! The town is pet friendly, warm and welcoming. You can walk to anything and I highly encourage it, there is not telling what you will see or the hidden treasures you will find! I am a beach bum and by that I mean I am on the beach by 10am and might not leave till 7pm. In Apalachicola I actually took the time to explore and enjoy this little community! My daughter had so much fun she has already asked to go back again next year! The town shuts down at 9pm so plan dinner accordingly!

  • My husband and I stayed at Karen's studio for a few nights - it was our home base when we attended a friend's wedding on St. George. When we arrived at the end of 17th St and parked, we were greeted by Carl, Karen's husband, and their three friendly chickens (and one duck). For our whole stay Carl was a great host, happy to chat with us about his lovely garden and quick to address any issues we had. As for the studio itself, the photos don't do it justice - it's beautiful inside, with great natural light. The kitchen is well equipped for whatever you may want to cook. We did experience a few oddities, namely that the water, even after filtering, had a bit of an odd/acidic taste; and there were a couple of water bugs around the place. If our lives ever bring us back to the area, though, we'd be very happy to stay again.

    Erin2017-05-07T00:00:00Z
  • This wonderful space is like clamping in a former boat house. You are tucked away right in the heart of Apalachicola and I recommend bring bikes so you can cruise around town with ease.

  • The space was incredible, truly an oasis! Karen has built and furnished the studio with impeccable style and it made us feel like we were on a luxurious vacation. So much attention to detail that really elevated our stay. The surrounding land was beautiful too. And Karen was so so friendly with great recommendations. Perfect hands off style for us (yet hands on for the things that counted). We would recommend her place to anyone who listens!

  • We loved the room with the riverfront view! Shrimp boats and fishing boats passed by leisurely and the dolphins were a surprise attraction! The unit was easily accessible and very spacious. Note that the 2nd room wasn't a bedroom but a very large closet - large enough to accommodate a trundle bed and nightstand. Having two full bathrooms was a plus. We walked everywhere and felt safe doing so. It's at the end of the street and quiet compared to other places in the center of appalachicola.

The room has a private entrance and is equipped with a fridge, coffee maker, outside patio, and private bathroom. Parking is available on location. Also, if you're bringing or making new friends the futon can open up to accommodate them.
Quiet and peaceful neighborhood with respectful neighbors.
  • Jeff and Daniel, the property manager, were great from the beginning. They went over to the top to make us feel welcome. The room, location and price were all great for someone who wanted a last minute trip to the forgotten coast to do some fishing for the weekend. I would easily stay there again. Jeff also, owns a restaurant and the food was excellent.

  • Jeff's place was perfect for me and my son. It's about 3-4 miles from my parent's' house in the downtown Apalachicola area. It was exceptionally clean and spacious, private, and quiet. Jeff also provided "starter" drinks and snacks so that we would have something to eat and drink when we arrived. The bed was extremely comfortable and my son fit the futon easily. The back yard is spacious and lovely, with fruit trees loaded with fruit. The neighborhood is a quiet, residential area, so we didn't have to worry about partiers in hotels. The price is right, too. You do need a car or bike if you want to go to the downtown area. The area doesn't have sidewalks and it's a little far to walk. That was not a problem for us. Thanks, Jeff. It was perfect!

  • Jeff was very nice and accomidating, the bed was very comfortable, I think it was memory foam, and it was brand new! Jeff had nice additions waiting, snacks and stuff. Nice quiet location, felt very safe.

  • Very nice room. Close to town and St George Island. Would stay again.

  • Jeff's place was , as it is described,, very clean and spacious, in a very calm neighborhood. The little airport is nearby, but you don't hear any noise at all.. It is a perfect spot to rest before you start your tours to the beaches or state parks. We felt comfortable and relaxed. I recommend also Jeff's restaurant, delicious food! Thanks again, Jeff!

    Christine2017-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved Jeff's place! Nice and quiet. . Restaurants were close and the room was perfect! We can't wait to return. . Thanks Jeff! Ellen and Aidan Branigan

  • We had a wonderful stay in Apalachicola at Jeff's. The private entrance allowed us to come and go without worrying about disturbing anyone. (The Oyster Cook-Off was taking place and we ended up staying out later than expected, with some great music going on in town.) The room was large and the bed was comfy. We arrived to find snacks on the table, water and soda chilled in the mini-fridge, and coffee or tea ready to go for the morning! Jeff was especially accommodating since we had a long drive that day and weren't sure what time we would arrive. He made it easy to "check in" and was responsive and easy to communicate with. The location is just a couple minutes' drive from town - it was very simple to get to and from, though not within walking distance of downtown. Jeff left a nice array of current materials about local attractions and highlights, which we appreciated.

  • The room was refreshing, clean and comfy. Timely and concise communication with the host. Coffee was a plus! Recommended.

Apalachicola is an historic fishing town dating back to the 1700s. While the town is known predominately for it's oysters and unspoiled charm as a fishing village, it also has a very diversified artists' community. It kind of reminds me of Florida in the 1950's. The beautiful beaches of St. George Island are only 10 minutes away.
  • What a fabulous and memorable vacation! Karen was at the houseboat to greet us and give us the tour of the Reelaxation. The boat is fully equipped and decorated in a fishing and hunting theme. The king size bed was super comfortable, and the boat was so quiet and restful. Kitchen appliances are full size and include a gas stove so you can cook like a real chef. The screen porch was welcome in the evening, and seeing the sunrise from the open deck was spectacular. Fishing poles are provided and you can fish right off the boat! It is conveniently located and within walking distance to town. Up the Creek restaurant is right next door with a casual atmosphere and there are several restaurants in town. Caroline's for breakfast was great. The Owl Cafe and Up the Stairs offer fine dining and both were delicious. 13 mile seafood market is right down the street as is the Honey Hole liquor store where you can get sodas and ice with super friendly service. Bowery Station is next door to that serving beer and wine with great live entertainment. The shops in town are charming as is the entire town. Dogs are welcome all over! I only saw smiles on the people we saw in Apalachicola, and that was awesome! We loved seeing the old Gibson Inn and all the old homes. St. George Island is just a 10 minute drive away if you want surf and sand. My husband and I will be visiting Apalachicola again and will definitely look into staying on one of Karen's boats again. Super lady!

  • Staying on a houseboat was a wonderful experience! This was a perfect location to watch sunrise and then enjoy all the animal activity off the back of the boat. The unit is clean and has a full kitchen. We opted not to cook and eat out at all the wonderful restaurants. I would recommend staying here.

The Southern Comfort is a 2 bedroom, 1.5 bath floating home with a cathedral ceiling in the living area, full size kitchen and a covered patio on the river where you can view spectacular sunrises, a variety of wildlife and all types of fishing boats. If this boat is not available during your vacation, please fell free to check out our other rentals located in the same marina as the Southern Comfort!
The Southern Comfort is a 55 ft. long floating home with 2 bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms which comfortably accommodates 4 adults. Total square footage is about 980 sq. ft. High end furnishings include leather furniture, hardwood floors, corian countertops and new full size appliances.
Apalachicola is a historic town dating back to the 1700s when it was one of the most active ports for the cotton trade. It has restored some of the historic homes. Many offer tours at various times during the year. Apalachicola is world famous for their oysters which are served in most of the restaurants in Florida with the freshest being served right next door at Up The Creek Raw Bar Restaurant. Fishing is the most desirable in the waters around Apalachicola. One of the best fishing guides is Capt. Jimmy Maxwell of Backwater Guide Services who also offers wonderful tours of the area. Within the last couple of years, the town has developed into an active artist community with a variety of styles offered around town. The shopping options include resort clothing and antique shops. If the beach is your passion, then St. George Island is only 10 minutes away and has some of the most beautiful white sandy beaches in the state. It has recently been rated as the third best beach in the nation.
  • This is a great location. Nice, clean. I'd definitely stay again. If you're here, head over to Lynn's for the best oysters and shrimp.

  • We had a fantastic time staying aboard the Southern Comfort. It was wonderful being right on the water and we spent more time on the patio facing the water than we expected. All of the birds and boats passing by were so fun to watch. Our floating condo had everything you could ever need. Karen was a terrific host and was spot-on with all of her recommendations of places to eat, shop and just hang out with the locals. Apalachicola is a wonderful town and we couldn't have asked for more! Thank you, Karen!

Contemporary solar home with beautiful bayfront views from nearly every room. Eight patio doors open to the private 1 acre lot. Watch bald eagles, porpoises, egrets and pelicans. Private dock for fishing or enjoy sunrises and sunsets - spectacular!
House Beautiful open floorplan has a central woodburning fireplace, SS appliances, marble bathrooms, and super-comfy beds and linens. Furnished for your comfort, and solar panels and hot water make it easy on the environment (while on the grid for reliability!) The nearly all-glass waterfront side of the house makes you feel one with the environment whilst enjoying comfort.
Conveniently located off of Hwy 98 (with a long driveway which takes you into a very beautiful space) only a mile from the downtown restaurants, coffee shop, bakery and chocolatier! We enjoy the walk through the residential neighborhood but golf carts and bikes are available in town (for a fee).
  • Faye was more than helpful answering my questions about the house before the trip and I really appreciated it. The house is absolutely lovely. There is a huge view of the marsh and bay through the multiple glass doors. I felt really in touch with nature. The house is completely redone with all new windows, bathrooms (beautiful), floors, all surfaces. The decor was calm and adult (not beach kitsch) with serene colors and art. It was close to town--we all rode our bicycles to Friday night Happy Hour at the Gibson Inn and the next day to the Oyster Cook-Off. The close-by Piggly Wiggly is a fantastic grocery store!

    Patricia2016-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • This house is the perfect place to stay if you're visiting Apalachicola! Downtown is 2 minutes by car, but also bikable and walkable. The house itself looks out over the bay and has a long dock that allows you to fish, watch the dolphin go by, or enjoy beautiful sunsets over the bay. It's a beautiful space--absolutely spotless. I also loved that it was such a private, quiet spot to appreciate all the wildlife nearby--pelicans and other birds, turtles, monarch butterflies, etc. I would recommend this house to everyone who wants to visit Apalachicola!

    Kate2017-11-15T00:00:00Z
  • We had great time with our boys at Faye's place. They had a great time fishing off the dock. Beautiful home with an awesome view of the bay.

    Kim 2017-07-26T00:00:00Z
  • Exceptional view of St George Island and the bay. Loved watching the birds that abound there using the binoculars that Faye has provided! House is extremely well done— uncluttered, open, very tastefully furnished. She has thought of not only your every need but she has also provided the little touches that make this home truly unique. We love architecture, interior design & remodeling — it was really fun to see what she has done with this space. We loved it and can’t wait to go back!

    Mary Doug2017-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic home, the view is spectacular. We saw a fox, humming birds, porpoise, shark, osprey and all sorts of other animals and birds without leaving the property. Fishing off the dock was great. The home has a great layout and quality bedding, towels and furniture which made it feel like a home from home. The home is close enough to feel part of Apalachicola yet set back enough from the road to be quiet and secluded.

You won't believe the comforts this spacious apartment offers. Located in the historic district, you can park your car/boat and walk to everything, or just relax on the porch at the beautiful Hays House. River view.
This apartment is located on the 2nd floor of the historic Hays House. You'll find an incredibly comfortable king-sized bed, luxury linens and designer touches throughout. The kitchen is well-appointed with your convenience in mind.
We can help you explore or find fun things to do. It's a small town, but if you're only here for a weekend, you'll wish you booked a whole week!
  • I can honestly say that Molly and Amy made our 25th anniversary trip way more fun than we imagined. The Hays House was unbelievably artsy and on point. Amy Friedman is an amazing artist and her touch throughout the place was magical but not over the top. Her works are everywhere and are to be appreciated. Everytime we passed through the doors we noticed something we hadn't seen the previous time. My wife is a former interior designer with a BFA and was very successful. She is also an artist in her own rite. To keep her attention and have her "light up" at what Amy has done to this historic home was priceless. I can't say enough about Molly and her kindness and humor when some of the guests (ahem) lost their keys. A certain cat and pup with the same names also became our friends and make the home(URL HIDDEN)From a husband, whose 25th anniversary plans were botched and had to be quickly changed because of a hurricane, I must say that I believe this trip worked out for the absolute best because of these two ladies. Their suggestions for dining and sights of charming Apalachicola were a great help, but their kindness won us over(URL HIDDEN)Thank you ladies(URL HIDDEN) Sincerely - Wm. F. (Bill) Harris

  • Everything was absolutely perfect.... and I mean everything! Comfortable, clean, quiet, spacious, welcoming. You've done a fantastic job on bringing life back into this gorgeous historic home in Apalachicola. Beautiful. I felt right at home and didn't want to leave!!! Very classic décor and art. Thanks for sharing this treasure. Considerate and great hostess.

  • Thank you so very much for allowing me to stay in "The Pearl" at the Hays house! I had a fantastic experience during my week in Apalachicola. It started with settling in the very comfortable suite through a smooth check-in process with wonderful Janice, and was followed by some marvelous above-and-beyond-the-call-of-duty suggestions and guidance by the lovely House Manager, Kristen. I was given the inside scoop on the best places to visit for food, beverages, music, and where to blend in with the local culture. She did a terrific job throughout the week of inquiring how I was getting along, the types of activities I found, and places I explored based on her suggestions. Because of the house, the town, the Hays House staff - and especially Kristen - I was extremely comfortable and relaxed, and had a most enjoyable and memorable vacation. Seriously... best vacation ever! Thank you! :0)

  • Molly's place was exactly as described! This charming old southern house is located within walking distance to restaurants, bars, shopping, and the waterfront. The Pearl apartment had everything we needed and more! The decor was beautiful and the bed extremely comfortable. Breakfast on the upstairs porch was a great treat. We will definitely be back!

  • We had such an awesome stay at "The Pearl." The pictures online are beautiful but you walk into the room and it's just stunning and thoughtfully appointed. We spent our time sleeping in, {the bed is like a cloud!}, eating good food at the great places in walking distance, and enjoying beautiful beaches. Molly is amazing, a great resource for local area attractions & dining, a welcoming presence that made us feel right at home, and attentive to her guests needs. We left wishing we could have stayed longer and definitely hoping to make a trip back soon!

  • we had a great trip from New Orleans to Savannah . Apalachicola has surpassed everything else ! In Molly's wonderful house we spent 2 nights at "The Pearl Room" . Everything is lovingly decorated by Molly and Amy Friedman in the harmonious shapes and colors of the sea . We hope to return one day . Amy Friedman's calendar will remind daily of the great time we had.. Still living in the beautiful colours of your home. Can't forget the delicious cinnamom rolls on Sunday morning. Thanks again. Good luck !

  • We absolutely loved out FIRST Airbnb experience. Molly was extremely welcoming and made us feel at home. Her home is absolutely gorgeous and the pictures do not do the room justice. It was above and beyond what we expected. The town was a very quiet beach town everyone was very friendly and the food was probably our favorite part. :)

  • Pictures do not do this beautiful home justice. Our stay in the Pearl was absolutely wonderful and went far beyond my expectations. You can simply not go wrong with the Hays House. Molly is so kind, and makes you feel right at home. As if the room and house weren't enough, the location is unbeatable. Right downtown, and right next to the bridge, making our daily trips to St. George that much easier! I can't imagine staying anywhere else in Apalachicola! Thank you Molly!

  • Extremely beautiful and roomy place, with lots of very nice touches/details. Also great outdoor areas (backyard + front porch) and location. Slight drawback = somewhat thin walls, so that you can sometimes hear those in neighboring units if they are loud. But this wasn't an issue during our stay.

Walking distance to all the eateries and shops you could want, but quiet enough to feel private. Our hosts were friendly, attentive, and available! Monica made us feel so welcome and suggested places we might enjoy. The suite was spacious, beautiful, and comfortable with all the extras that made it a great home away from home! Would definitely recommend this boutique hotel to friends. Definitely hoping to return soon.
