Nature Preserve
“Birders flock to Mass Audubon's 940-acre sanctuary, where 5 miles of trails cross tidal creeks, salt marshes and beaches. The most popular is the Goose Pond Trail (1.5-mile round-trip), which leads out to a salt marsh and offers abundant opportunities for spotting marine and bird life. The sanctuary also offers guided walks and kayaking tours, seal cruises and summer kids' programs.”

Parc
“Named for Thornton Burgess, author of classic children's books such as Peter Rabbit, this nature center is great for the whole family. Tour the gardens, go on a short hike, view a real bee hive behind glass, visit the children's building for crafts, story time, and many rescued live animals on display. Check the website for program schedule and times.”

Terrains de jeux

Playground
“The Sandwich Marina and the Cape Cod Canal are must-sees while staying in Sandwich. This is a very active marina with lots of pleasure and commercial craft passing through. As an active marina, the marina offers sights of fish being unloaded, tug boats pushing barges, and large cruise ships passing through on their way to Nova Scotia or New York City. There are multiple eating and drinking options at the marina, including a new restaurant being constructed as of this writing in May 2016.”

Lighthouse
“An active coast guard area, you can't usually tour the lighthouse but you can get rather close to see the building and the great overlook onto the beach and water below. They have some cool displays about different coast guard rescues and the trip the pilgrims took (before they landed in plymouth). This spot is great for sun rises if you get up early or even great colors at sunset (as the sun sets behind you).”

Beach
“We love this nearby beach. Just a short drive (about 5 minutes) and excellent parking right at beachside (no lugging everything from the car). Snack bar, frequent ice cream trucks, shells, and a mile long beach to walk, this is one of our favorites to visit in the afternoon and stay through dinner, with a picnic and drinks!”

Trail
“Ellisville Harbor offers a unique coastal experience . Explore the rolling meadows and red pine forest. You can see fishing boats and even harbor seals from the shoreline, even in the winter months. "This is a great setting. An easy hiking trail (3/4 mile approx) to a sand and rock beach. Looking out you see sea lions swimming and resting on the rocks. If you are adventurous, you can walk out on the rocks, at low tide, to get even closer to the action. Easy hike with some small hills- not good for strollers or ones with walking conditions- too many roots from trees on path. If in the area- definitely worth the trip." free parking”
