“Myli Gorge can be found a few kilometres from Rethymno, along the Amari Road. The gorge has some beautiful ruins of old houses and water mills that once formed the village. Huge mulberry, cypress and nut trees grow wild along the gorge’s edge. At the top of the gorge there is a small taverna where you can sit and sample some Cretan dishes whilst enjoying the view. There are also a several small ponds and a picnic area.”

Playground
“The magic of the world is hidden through the passage of time in a playground. From the ancient times of dragons, elves, fairies and unicorns, pyramids, the wild west, knights and pirates, to the modern times of schools, construction sites, hospitals and to the future times of space stations. A changing playground with constant monthly game renewals and different seasonal decorations, offers entertainment, imagination stimulation and becomes the basis for knowledge and new social relationships.”

Beach
“Balos beach is probably the most famous beach in Crete island. Every year, hundreds of people with their families or their friends visit this place, to enjoy the white sand and the clear water on this amazing landscape. Balos is located at the bay of Kissamos after Chania, 117 km from the city of Rethymno and there are two options to go there: 1) By car, which is not recommended, as most of the rent a car companies do not provide insurance cover, because the road is awful, full of rocks & cliffs and moreover you need to walk about 40 minutes down the mountain, from the parking area to the beach. 2) The easiest and most recommended way is to go to Kissamos and take the boat trip to Balos. You can book your tickets online and park your car at the parking of the port. The boat also takes you to Gramvousa island, opposite to Balos beach which is a very beautiful place with a shipwreck on the beach.”

Beach
“If you like driving and walking its a good choice to visit. Its 1:30 min away but its worth the effort !!! You better take food and water with you becouse its not organised and there is not food near the beach. At the exit of the river, a sandy beach with pebbles and sand is formed, with sea water being very cool due to the river. In the eastern part of the beach, there is a beautiful rock reminding of a heart. The beach is not well organized because the area is protected, without any umbrella”

Beach
“Elafonissi is located 76 kilometers southwest of Chania and five kilometers south of Chrysoskalitissa Monastery, at the southwest end of Crete. Elafonissi looks like an island, because the peninsula at the point that connects with Crete "breaks" and gives the feeling of a separate island. The area has been included in the Natura Protected Areas and is a refuge for the Careta careta turtle. It is strictly forbidden to cut plants from there or to take sand even from the shore! In Elafonissi you will get to the road from Kissamos in about an hour even by bus from KTEL. The road to Elafonissi is narrow and full of turns, but the beauty of the landscape will compensate for you. More choices for accommodation and food can be found in Chryssoskalitissa, located five kilometers north and there you will see the famous Monastery of Panagia Chrysoskalitissa. The beach stretches over long stretches, mainly east of the lagoon. It is organized, it has everything (and special parking space) and especially during the summer months is flooded by people. The shallow lagoon is ideal for young but also for the grown-ups who are willing to play with sand and water! At some points the color of the sand is not white but pink, which is created by the millions of broken shells you will see there. The shores of Elafonisi are more remote and if you want to be a bit more isolated, walk until you find the cove that suits you. The tour of the island is easy to walk.”

Beach
“The famous lagoon of Balos is located approximately 56km northwest of Chania and 17km northwest of Kissamos, formed between the Cape Gramvousa and the small Cape Tigani and below the range of Platiskinos. Balos is surely the mostly photographed beach in Crete, a very favorite subject of all tourist guides for Greece. It is no coincidence that Prince Charles and Princess Diana visited Balos with their private yacht many years ago. Balos is famous for its turquoise waters, the wild natural beauty and the beautiful exotic scenery. During the summer, Balos is visited by thousands of people, who arrive mostly by the ferries running from Kissamos port. If you do not like crowds, you’d better avoid to visit the beach in July and August. Also, a perfect idea is to arrive at Balos in the morning, before the boats arrive from Kissamos. These few hours of remoteness in such a heavenly place will remain etched in your memory forever. The lagoon of Balos has white sand and exotic white, vivid blue and turquoise waters. The sea is very shallow and warm, ideal for young children. In many places the sand has a lovely pinkish color, because of millions of crushed shells. Beyond the rocks at the boundaries of the lagoon, the water is deeper and colder, ideal for a snorkeling. The lagoon and the wider area, with rare species of flora and fauna, are protected under the Natura 2000 program. Eleonora falcons, shags and cormorants nest in the caves of the area. Moreover, the area is a shelter for the protected monk seal and the loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta). Despite the protection, some canteens and umbrellas have appeared on the beach in recent years. You can buy water from there and from the bars of the ferries.”
